yeah it's been a thing for a while.
The pandemic pretty much shifted it into high gear with antivaxxers pushing their agenda on the masses. Joe Rogan went from supporting Bernie in 2020 to being a climate change denier and skeptic of the progressive tax bracket. The UFC, WWE, and MMA all cater to right wingers since they're owned by them.

Guess I’m the only one who can like both Man of Steel and Superman 2025 without having it be some kind of life choice.

Batman v Superman on the other hand… lol

I'm on the same boat, I liked Man of Steel & Superman (2025), neither are without their faults in my own eyes but the mentality surrounding the discourse of both is that if you like one, you must by nature, hate the other.

The one I really don’t get is some fans’ obsession with Cavill. I understand having your favorites and whatnot. But some fans act like he had some sort of transformative, star making, Reeve-esque performance in three movies where he barely had any dialogue. I have this friend (who isn’t a Snyder devotee but has this fixation on Cavill I can’t quite figure out). She saw Superman and loved it, but basically praised every cast member BUT Corenswet. And I could tell it was all rooted in this devotion she has to Cavill.

And look, I’ve liked the guy in some other things. I thought he was good in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Enola Holmes. But his Superman was always just kinda there. Minimal personality, and it got worse as it went on. For all the praise the Snyder Cut gets, Cavill comes off the WORST in it by a country mile. And that’s in a movie where no one comes off good, IMO, just four hours of action figures brooding and Ezra Miller bouncing off walls like a moron. But I digress.

I don’t know. I guess maybe fans feel bad because WB let him reannounce himself as Superman and then let him go right after. But he did that to himself with his stupid attempt to help Dwayne take over DC. Put the blame where it’s due.

Man of Steel was okay until the Pa Kent decision. I could have overlooked that if it wasn’t for the uncomfortable destruction, Superman’s indifference to the destruction, and snapping Zod’s neck. Such bizarre choices that left me feeling uneasy as I left the theater.

They’ve seen Gladiator and Star Wars on a loop while reading The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen. That is the bulk of their media literacy.
Reading, but not understanding. It's pretty clear Snyder completely missed the point and themes of those stories based on his adaptations.

I don't want to make a blanket statement and this is not everyone, but I do think there is a large segment of his fanbase that are fixated on his good looks and it has zero to do with his performance.

I'm not going to rag on anyone who loves Cavill, but for me, his performance as Superman is the worst performance of all the screen iterations, big and small, that we've ever had.

Henry Cavill is a very likeable person in interviews. A guy that looks like a Greek god, but loves comics/warhammer/scifi/video games/etc... I don't think he's an amazing actor, from what I have seen, but he is decent/good. I do hope he is in the new DCU. It may cause the absolute crazies to meltdown a bit. I'm not sure it would bury it once and for good. Not even sure if Snyder was involved in current DCU if that would destroy it lol.

What's everyone's prediction on final box office totals? I'm leaning 625.... but really hoping 700+ haha!

WB can’t exist in its current incarnation. The company made 80% of its profit from the cable business which is now in secular decline. They just laid off 10% of their workforce today for that reason.

I’ve been a longtime admirer of Cavill. I loved the idea of him as Superman and I supported him for years. But honestly, I have to admit he’s not a strong actor. At best, he’s okay. Solid presence, sure, but not much range.

I watched MoS recently and the difference in performance is just night and day.
Cavill could never have played David’s Superman, or if he had, it would've come across as too stiff, too serious, and completely lacking that warmth and charm that makes this version so special.

What David brings to the role, the emotional nuance, the vulnerability, the humor, the heart it’s something Cavill never quite managed to tap into. It really made me realize how much I was settling before.

Now, about the box office, I’m not sure how it's doing across Latin America, I haven’t been closely following the reports. I know internationally it hasn’t been massive, but at least here in Peru, attendance seems to be growing rather than dropping.
when I first saw the movie, the theater wasn’t packed at all. But over the last few days, I’ve seen a big shift.
Screenings have been consistently 80%, 90%, even fully sold out. It’s honestly surprising (in a good way) to see how much momentum it seems to be gaining here. It also helped that we had some holidays this week, but these were from last week and today I was planning to go and it's already full.
