Comics Superman Comics Reccomendations

I know I've asked this a million times on here, but I'm asking again buease I can't seen to remember for some reason. What is the name of the comic where Superman crashes in Gotham and becomes Batman. Thanks for answering this question again.

"Speeding Bullets" if I remember correctly. Look it up just to be sure.

It comes before. We get an introduction to the eradicator( the Superman with glasses in the return story) and its history in this story..

Oh right thanks, I'm trying to read them in order because i read a load out of order and it was chaos :yay: .

So Exile is before Death Of huh?

I also got Up, Up and Away, anyone read that?

Just finished Exile, a great read, one of the best Superman stories i have read, thanks to Kevin Roegele and others for recommending it.

I love Superman in the various movies, cartoons, and television shows. The only comics I read were back when he died and came back and that whole thing was so stupid I didn't read any more Superman comics. But I want to get back into them. Can anyone recommend a good trade that someone out of touch with the Superman universe can just pick up and read? Or is there a good on going book out there that I can buy the back issues for (i.e. don't tell me Action Comics, because I can't simply start at Action #1)? Thanks in advance.

You`re better off reading graphic novels then the actuall mainstream comics. THe one-shot stories are much better than the ongoing contuinity.

I`d say read Superman for all seasons, Superman peace on earth, REd Son, Secret identity, Superman the man of steel and birthright for origins, Kingdom Come and the 2 Alan Moore stories.

Pick up All-Star Superman. THat is really good.

So I`d start with Man of steel and Superman for all seasons. And then you read the rest...

Since a few titles have gotten multiple recommendations here, I'm throwing this one into the thread again...due to it's shear awesomeness. And as I've said, it's not a superhero story, but a story taking place in the real world, with "real" people, and over the course of the tale, it explores the Superman mythos. It's so good...and where that line in my sig is from. (The Superman part...not the GL lament...)

Kingdom Come is possibly the best Superman story i have read.

Also check out Exile, both volume's of For Tomorrow and Up, Up and Away.

Sacrifice and Godfall are good books also.

I might read it, whay is it actually called?

Hey Superfans, I'm a Batman reader, but I'm interested in reading some Superman graphic novels and was wondering which were essential, where to start, what order, which version is best to get? I know there's a thread of people's top 3, but I was wondering if I could get more specific help. I've been recommended:

Superman For All Seasons
Superman Birthright
Death of/Return of Superman
Doomsday

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Here's a TPB link which is comprehensive and has chronological order as well. Plus it's not just Superman but has Marvel and DC comics listed. There might be more but I haven't explored it much or recently.

As for recommendations I'm still out of touch with comics. And may take years to catch up (if I can ever do so). But you've listed some of them. There's also Byrne's reboot from 1986 to kind of understand how he changed plus "Up, Up and Away" which is newer and introduces the reality of OYL (One Year Later which I presume you know about).

Do you read Superman/Batman? Also JLA/Justice League (of America)? 'Cos there's good stories there too but you might already know them (better than me too).

i personally thought 'Secret Identities' is an excellent book, but its not really about Superman at all (its about a guy who happens to have the name clark kent and lives in kansas). Still, great book.

Off the top of my head:

The Death-World Without-Return Trilogy
For Tomorrow Vol.1 and 2
Exile
Our Worlds At War
Superman: Doomsday
Godfall
Sacrifice
The Journey
Ruin Revealed
Up, Up and Away

All good books.

Next to Birthright, For All Seasons and Up, Up and Away that have already been mentioned, I recommend:

- All-Star Superman (all of the issues!)
- Trinity (a Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman tale)
- Superman Returns: The Prequels (what happened between "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman Returns")
- Superman: Secret Identity (Elseworlds so not strictly Superman but about a teenage boy in real-life named Clark Kent who discovers he has Superman's powers. One of my all-time fave Superman comics!)
- Son of Superman (includes Superman and JLA)

Some of the most widely recommended stories about Superman:

- Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (arguably the best Supes story ever written)
- Superman: What's So Funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way?
- Superman: For the Man Who Has Everything (from Superman Annual #11, it stars Batman so you probably know of it already :yay: )
- Superman: Red Son (another Elseworlds tale)

Superman For All Seasons
Superman Secret Identity
Superman Peace On Earth
Superman Unconventional Warfare
Superman Godfall
Superman Whatever Happaned To The Man Of Tomorrow
The Death of Superman

I think someone posted it here in another thread. And I realised how useful it was so bookmarked it. I thought others might find it helpful too. I'm glad it is.

...and while we're at it, what are some good Superman graphic novels that take place in his early years? Thank you!

your best bet would find The Man of Steel vol. 1 like it or hate it Byrne drew a damn fine supes.

There's also A Superman For All Seasons, not my favorite, Sale's art doesn't fit well with Supes IMO.

When it comes out, there will be the first arc of Superman: Confidential too

Thanks alot! It does indeed seem like MOS is the way to go.

The other big Year-One type story is Birthright by Mark Waid (which I vastly prefer over Byrne's watered-down Marvel-ripoff-of-himself Supes)
