Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

If you'll give me behind the scenes access I'll go on message boards and scream about how "Matt is bringing the greatest depection of Superman ever brought to screen!"

depends...

is it a complete reboot, or is it a sequel to Superman Returns?

heh deal!

Whatever you'd like it to be. You make your Superman. :yay:
hmm...

I have two distinct versions in my mind...
I've already made out a storyline for a possible MOS movie, but only bits and pieces on a reboot.

As little as I know about it, I think my Superman movie wouldn't be that different from Burton's one.

Keep reading and feel free to hate it.

I'd be basing his personality in the first comics. He'd be quite heroic and incorruptible but cocky and sarcastic without being annoying or offensive.

The suit would be almost the same as that Jon Peters' statue.

Clark Kent would be genuinely shy. Not a pretended dork but an actual introvert shy guy. But very professional an all.

If you're not hating it yet, let's hear this: Clark and Superman would have different appearances. Superman would have a different face and body. As if Clark had a muscular handsome brother. Glasses haven't been, are not and never will be a disguise. Of course as Clark, he'd still be having super-powers. He wouldn't be "hatingh" to be Superman at all, he'd be proud of it, but he'd realize the irony behind being Superman and being appreciated by people and girls (specially Lois) but despised as Clark at the same time.

Now, if you're quoting me, please come up with something better than "Too good you're not making a Superman movie" or crap like that because for a starter, nobody in here is directing one. :)

Outside of the whole suit thing (IMO Superman's suit shouldn't be radically changed from what it is), that's not a bad set of ideas there. The two-different-appearances thing sounds like what they did in the original MAD Magazine spoof "Superduperman!", where Clark was a four-foot weed with greasy hair and Super(duper)man was seven feet of pure muscle with a crew cut.

Well...I hate to ruin your fun but...THANK GOD YOU ARE NOT DIRECTING A SUPERMAN MOVIE and your ideas shines a light on WHY we`ve been discussing Superman and went nowhere. You simply dont respect or know the character at all.THank you for writing this. I wont waste my time with you again. See ya.

I have an idea for a reboot, I mentioned in another thread before.

It would be about Superman going from being the American hero to being everyone's hero. Superman would start out being raised by the Kents in sortof your typical farmboy fashion: go to church, worship God, stand up for America, etc. I think it's an area that should be explored in Superman's origins. Superman these days is a hero to a lot of people, and I dunno, it seems like being raised in a rural environment would have an affect on Superman's ideals. He would be a good natured person as a result, but I also believe he'd be sortof old fashioned and behind the times.

There would be a conflict between his upbringing with the Kents and his Kryptonian heritage, which would eventually lead to Superman becoming the man of tomorrow, so to speak. It would kindof parallel Earth's growth into the utopian society that Krypton was.

Lex would be the head of Lexcorp of course, but I don't want him to have much of a connection to anyone at the Daily Planet. I don't want him to be a childhood friend of Perry's, or a love interest to Lois. They should all remain as unrelated to one another as they were before the whole Lexcorp angle. But, he would start out friends with Superman when Superman first comes to Metropolis. Supes naivety and overly trustworthy nature would cause him not to see Lex's true side. Once Superman begins to change, he and Lex would grow to become mortal enemies and Lex would then attempt to clone Superman, which would lead to the creation of Bizarro.

Thanks for your miserable pathetic personal revenge on me disguised as predictable unoriginal and poor analysis. Some elaboration could have helped at least to raise the level of your posts. :)

lol

What's with you man? :hyper:

Never heard of it but thanks for the info.

yeah, that was a bit rude, SpiderDaniel... everyone has a right to their opinion, and just because you don't like it, doesn't give you the right to insult him.

lol

What's with you man? :hyper:
you and I may not agree SR wise, but I'm always open to change. I did enjoy the kid angle and Richard.

I even got that to work in a MOS storyline I did earlier this year

I can't believe it.

It has been nice to talk to you like this man.

I don't know that I can write this in yet another thread. Matt I'm trying not to sit this thread out cause you're a bud and all but I've participated in this one so many times :(

Bah shorten it- here ya go cause your MATT lol

Theme of movie=manipulation (lex manipulates Corben for Metallo, Brainiac manipulates Lex)

Man of STEEL=also implying Metallo hidden meaning

Begin with= younger Jor-el 20 minutes backstory leading up to destruction of Krypton incorporating Brainiac (all credit given to TAS) which can be used later in film as a foe to Clark.

Next= 10 minutes of SV Clark growing up. Parents still alive ala L&C btw. Clark gets his job, meets Lois and DP gang for first time. Also introduction to Lex- on a story Clark tags a long with Lois and meets Lex who is successful head of Lexcorp. Superman makes first appearance- Lex takes notice of headlines.

Middle to end- Lex gained tech from Brainiac. Creates Metallo. Metallo fights Superman. Brainiac takes over Lexcorp, Lex plays innocent not taking blame for Metallo fight with Superman. Superman doesn't trust him. Lex finds it funny in an egomaniacal way.

Heh you flatter me.

But not bad. Bit crowded for an origin movie, but definitely not bad. It could even work as a sequel to SR.

I feel another film needs to make substantial changes to Superman. I'd love a tough, in your face hero. Getting some pleasure and fun out of dealing with bad guys. Lex I'd like sexy. A legit businessman from the start. With dark secrets. I'd have Lex discover Superman's secret identity. Use that to continually threaten and taunt him. Make them tough but fun characters. Have multifaceted relationships. The Kents alive and youngish oldsters. No scimping on action either.

Anyhow, here is the conclussion of my story.

After Clark gets his job at the planet we spend some time meeting the rest of the cast. Perry assigns Lois to work with Clark and show him the ropes for awhile. He teams them on finding out what went wrong with the STAR labs shuttle.

Meanwhile, we also meet Luthor. I would actually do this in a way similar to Lois and Clark. Some sort of party that Luthor is holding at his towers that Lois brings Clark to. We learn how Lex is pretty much royalty in Metropolis. Luthor pretty much sweeps Lois off her feet (although Lois is simply playing him to get an interview) Clark on the other hand uses the opportunity to snoop around LexCorp Towers. He quickly learns who Luthor REALLY is. Pretty much the crime lord of Metropolis. He also finds the press release of and other evidence linking Luthor to the sabatoage of the space plane. Long story short, Superman, feeling cocky by his win arranges for Luthor to get arrested for it. All of it is circumstantial, Luthor is out in minutes, but he has been shamed and he wants revenge.

After that we see a brief montage of Superman's heroics. During the montage we see Superman do several things all the around the world, ranging from averting disasters like construction accidents to stopping a terrorist attack on a train (the classic hole in the tracks so he lays across the hole while the train drives safely over him) The city of Metropolis is falling in love with him, Hell the world is. Meanwhile Luthor resents this and that is made clear during the montage. It is clear that Luthor is behind a lot of the accidents Superman is averting. Almost as tests to see what he is capable of.

The next scene involves Luthor being informed of a discovery made. He is told that the tip to mine in Kansas was right and they found an unknown green rock. Initial anaylzation has revealed it to be alien in nature. Luthor considers this for a moment then tells his bodyguard Mercy (who we previously saw sabotaging the space plane) that it is time for one more test.

The next scene is a bank robbery. The robbers are nothing more than your average thugs, one of whom is John Corben. Superman shows up, stops them with ease...when suddenly Mercy can be seen in the shadows of the bank. She opens a box containing a piece of the Kryptonite. Suddenly Superman feels dizzy. He stumbles a bit. And falls to his knees. Satisfied by this Mercy closes the box and slips back into the shadows.

Corben however, stunned by Superman's brief weakness, picks up his gun and fires point blank then turns to run. However, with the Kryptonite gone, the bullet bounces right off him, and richocettes into Corben's spine.

Afterwards, the police are cleaning up the scene, Lois trying to get an interview with Superman, etc. Only one thing...Mercy is now the paramedic loading Corben's corpse into an ambulence.

Cut to LexCorp labs. Luthor is standing over Corben...who is somehow alive. Luthor tells him that his spine was permenantly damages, costing him the use of most of his body, but he has given him a second chance, and he must use it to take revenge on the man who nearly killed him. Superman. During this, we only see Luthor from Metallo's perspective. Zoom out and it is revealed that his limbs, spine, chest, and parts of his head are now replaced with metal. At the center is its energy source. Kryptonite.

Cut to Clark at the Planet. He is on the phone with his parents explaining the weakness he felt at the bank when suddenly Perry bursts in and reveals that a robot is on a rampage in down town Metropolis. Clark quickly disappears.

Downtown Metropolis, right infront of LexCorp Towers first battle between Metallo and Superman. However, Lois and Jimmy who arrived on the scene before Clark to get the story are caught in the middle, keeping Superman on the defensive. He holds his own at first, until Metallo's chest opens up revealing the Kryptonite. Then Metallo pretty much kicks his ass. Lois tries to hit him with little success, so he turns his attention to her being as Superman is pretty much out cold. Luthor, who is watching from the balcony of LexCorp Tower, deciding that Metallo's rampage has gone on long enough, presses a button which sends electrical jolts through Corben, disabling him. Corben, shocked by this, runs off. As Superman begins to regain his composure, Lex presses another button. Suddenly an apartment building down the street explodes right before Superman's eyes. As the police arrive, Lex emerges from LexCorp. Fawning concern for Lois at first, then Superman, he kneels over him and while helping him up and then whispers to him "No matter how hard you try, you can't be two places at once. Go back to where ever you came from, before you fail us all."

Devestated, Clark returns to Smallville. During this time, he is comforted by his parents, but more so Lana, who has returned. While Lana, Clark, and The Kents have dinner, Chief Higgins arrives to warn them that the storm outside could flood the town and that a relief center is being set up at the church which is on a hill and safe and they may want to head there. Pa Kent tells him they will wait it out and if it worsens go.

Cut back to Metropolis, Metallo is going crazy. He is coming to terms with the fact that he is machine. At first he thought it partial. Until he tried to eat and realized he couldn't taste. In a panic, he peels off the skin from the left side of his face to reveal a totally mechanic robotic exoskeleton. He realizes he is entirely machine. He blames Luthor for this and swears revenge.

Back in Smallville, Clark explains to Lana why he ran away. Lana has no answers for Clark. She walks upstairs to help Martha set up the spare room for her.

During this, she recalls the night Clark told her his secret. How burdened she felt by it. That a girl from Smallville has no answers for Superman. Martha however tells her, that he isn't Superman. He is their Clark and always will be.

The next morning, the river is getting ready to flood and the Kents are about to head to the church. Clark is about to get in the truck when Lana pulls him to the side. She gives a speech similar to her narration of SFAS. Tells him that when she was travelling, no matter where she went she heard about this man with powers...who would save people, and she couldn't understand it but now she does. She knows why he helps people because it is no different than Chief Higgins braving the storm to warn the town or a fireman rushing into a burning building, not even to save someone but to see if anyone needs saved. She realizes now, it isn't because he is Superman that he helps people. It is because he is Clark, that he helps people and it is because he is Clark that he won't give up. She then kisses his cheek, and tells him to get dressed.

The next scene is Superman stopping the flood from engulfing Smallville by building a dam out of trees. Should make a pretty good visual.

Clark says goodbye to his parents and Lana. He then lifts off to return to Metropolis.

Cut to LexCorp Towers. Luthor is having dinner with Lois who is interviewing him because news is slow with Superman out of town. Mercy rushes in and warns them of a security breach. It is Metallo Luthors security forces and Mercy attempt to stop him but are thwarted. Luthor tries to shock him with his remote, however Corben simply breaks grabs and breaks it. Metallo shoves him out of the way saying he dies last. He grabs Lois, takes her to the balcony and throws her off. He returns to Luthor and prepares to strike, however Superman catches his fist. Lois is standing next to him, having caught her. Metallo begins to open his chest, however Superman simply throws him straight through the window of Lex's office, flying past the balcony, crashing to the ground beneath.

Another battle ensues. This time far more even. Truck throwing, hitting with street lights, etc. The battle climaxes as Metallo finally takes the upperhand and gets close enough to open his chest exposing big blue to Kryptonite. Superman overcomes it however, he shoves his hand right into Metallo's chest and crushes the kryptonite into dust. Being Metallo's energy source he deactivates.

Superman flies back into Luthor's office. He looks him in the eyes and tells him knowingly "I'm back.". He then offers Lois a ride back to the planet, telling her he is sure she has a deadline to meet. She accepts and he flies out the window with her.

Luthor turns to Mercy and smiles. He speaks "Mercy, do you recall the satellite we found drifting in orbit?"

She replies "The one who told us to mine in Kansas?"

Luthor nods "Yes, I think we should consult it again. Reactivate Brainiac.

We then see Superman flying through Metropolis, just because that seems to be the standard end to superhero movies now-a-days :cwink:

The end.

Well, thats it. What do you guys think?

Oh, and as for my cast:

Superman/Clark Kent - Jude Law. He may not be as large, but he has a look about him that could be seen as very unique and regal. Almost alien in nature. He could buff up and would work fine.

Lois Lane - Robin Tunney Watch Prison Break and you'll know why.

Lex Luthor - Jason Isaacs Him in that role would be orgasmic.

Metallo - Viggo Mortenson I think he would be good. Plus I'd like to see him as a villain.

Lana Lang - Allyson Hannigan She would be great I think. She is beautiful and has the farm girl from next door thing going.

Jonathan and Martha Kent - K. Callan and Eddie Jones They nailed the role on Lois and Clark, why not?

Jimmy Olsen - Topher Grace He was tailor made for the role.

Perry White - Christopher Walken Great actor, would be great in the role.

Jor-El - Jim Caviazel Big Superman fan, has the look, would be open for sequels.

Lara - Teri Hatcher Just for fun.
