You know, animation style aside, I think this may be up there as one of my favorite animated films that DC has made. I expected next to nothing before seeing it, and after watching it, I absolutely loved it.
I liked it as well. It was definitely a nice change of pace. Where the bad guys did not know Supermans weakness & he was forced to go all out. Great animated movie
I liked it. It went places no (animated) DC movie has gone before. The cartoony style really contrasted with the serious subject matter.
The movie actually made you empathize with Clark. The older hero who people take for granted.
The way they dealt with the "no kill" policy was refreshing. Though, why none of the villains got executed by the state isn't explored. Superman's argument makes sense. He's not the jury. Okay... so why do the jury never sentence these repeat murderers to death? Don't blame Superman, blame the jury or prosecutor.
So I just watched Superman vs The Elite. I recently had a Superman streak, I have been watching old films, and I was eager to see this story. I thought it was great, if a little longer. It was in some ways, Superman at his best. I think everyone who think Superman is a dull and irrelevant character should watch this film.
I think sometimes it gets just a little preachy, but it touches some very relevant issues about morality, taking the hard way and doing the best we can. I think the best thing about Superman is how he handles things, he struggles to do things right, and he does it right.
And you can see how frightening it can be to have a being with so much power. I didn't see that ending coming. Superman going evil was definitively terrifying. And although I could see that he was just trying to make the world understand, it came to me as some sort of commentary about doing the right thing.
The opening was funny to look at, poking fun at the character itself, and making a point about how some people view Superman. The Elite itself was almost a perfect counterpoint to the Man of Steel. And they made some very interesting points about Superman and superheros in general. The little stories in between, the reactions of the people. I had a little gut in my throat when the little kid wanted the Atomic Skull dead because of the murder of his father. There were some very mature topics, and they where handled nicely.
Although the animation seemed a little different, it kinda reminded me of old school animation. I don't think it was the best, or if it was intentional, but I liked it. It had a vibrant feel, opposed to the thematics, like a juxtaposition of Superman and the Elite itself.
I loved the voice acting, and George Newbern in Superman Evil mode was downright scary, it showed a lot of range. And I just loved that Lois knew Clark secret and that they were a couple. It was a nice dynamic. I know in the comics they were married before all of this 52 Mumbo Jumbo, and I kind of dread that they can't/won't show these kind of interaction between the two.
It is nice to see Superman as it should be. I think this film is a good exercise for the soul.
Edit: I loved the intro credits, just had to mention it
Phenomenal movie - initially I thought this looked like a pile of rubbish. It is far from that, it's very deep in story compared to other DCAU movies. Not to say I didn't have any gripes with it, the positives in this far out weigh'd the negatives.
Superman turned evil at the end was a "wtf" moment. It honestly was horrific to watch. I personally never read the comic, so I dont know how close that is to the actual story, but wow. He even got his point across to me.
If someone who has read the comics could please let me know if the sister plays a bigger role? She seemed....non existent in this.
Art really grows on you, I loved both the 'cartoon' intro, and the credits intro, a couple nice throw backs.
Just watched it today. I enjoyed it despite not being overly fond of the Family Guy/American Dad style character design on Superman (would have preferred the Crisis on 2 Earths/Doom/Young Justice design). Voice acting was good all around, with George Newbern hitting it out of the ball park as Superman with what may be his best performance yet as the character. This is the kind of plot that Superman Returns should have had rather than boring "baby daddy" melodrama.
I am so amped for this movie... but before I buy it I wanted to ask you guys: how bloody does it get? I remember I passed on Batman: Under the Red Hood because Jason Todd splattered someone's face on the side of the wall. So before I get SVTE, I gotta' ask: is there anything comparable, and how gory/bloody does it get, if at all?

Well, a lot of people die, but it's mostly in a "vaporized" fashion. There's very little blood. There's a lot of... sort of cussing. If you're British. If you're American or Canadian it just sounds kind of funny. The say wanker a lot.
