'Sword of Truth' aka Legend of the Seeker

The series has been renewed for a 2nd season. I think, maybe I'll read the books once the show has run its course.

You'll have a long time to wait then. I never understood the concept of waiting to read a book. Sure they are large some of them but a book a week is no big commitment. I would assume have have considering your avatar is the Mother Confessor.

I'm a fan of the books and I gotta say the show is just butchery. Like last week they introduce Richard's sister (who shows up in the 6th book) and they say they have the same mother while in the books it's the same father. Doesnt sound like a big deal but it actually is when you learn who their real parentage is. I watch it if it's on but I don't go out of my way to see it because it just pisses me off

My curiousity got the better of me a week ago so I checked Wiki for info about the books and learned who his father was. Man, they butchered that plot point in pre-production. They must be attempting a different "Rome-like" relationship if you know what I mean. Leaving his father for a another character.

Maybe reading it after watching the series will make you immune to disappiointment, Lobo? You don't have to wait.

The reason I'd wait, is this way I can enjoy the show for what it is, instead of being upset by the changes made.

If you say so man. But that's like watching Smallville to get your Superman info ... it's just as wrong as LOTS.

I love the books but the first 2 are extremely chatty.....in Wizards First Rule there are literally chunks of pages where NOTHING happens....its just people talking....

That's the funny thing with books. There's all this dialogue in them.

Not what I mean.....take the first third of Wizards First Rule....you get a bit of action in the beginning and then it turns into 'A long conversation in the woods'....its something thats only an issue in the first two novels though.....Stone of Tears is the longest novel in the series IIRC and there is a ****load of exposition when it comes to explaining prophecy and The Gift....

Frankly, I have no problem with it. If they gotta talk then they gotta talk. From the sound of it a John Le Carre novel would drive you crazy.

I think what he is saying is that there is a lot of talk and might not translate well to tv, you know people think something has to die every five minutes or something on tv , jk'ing.

He doesn't do it for me.....I'm a big Michael Connelly fan, there is a lot of exposition there, but he manages it well...same thing with George R.R. Martin

What are you talking about? They've already hinted that dude is still his father. Remember how his mother was reluctant to reveal who it was?

How did they butcher it? Are you one of them slow folk?

Ah-Yuck-Yuck. I guessome so, sir!?

Look at the age of the actor in comparison to the Seeker. What was he like 12 when it happened?

Dude's the most powerful magic user in the realm. I'm guessin' he whipped up something to slow or prevent his aging.

Some people are much more visual. Which is why they prefer the series over the books. I used to read a novel a week and now I barely read at all...books are fine and all...but I perfer the visual medium...being an artist and all. :P

I don't think they ever say how old he actually is in the novels....but nothing points to him being super old

While that's possible, I'd see that as kind of lame considering Zedd looks as old as dirt. I guess it hinges on whether Richard and Jenssen have the same father.

Well they do have the same father, not the same mother like the TV show would tell you. They also have a brother Oba who I thought would be brought in during the episode since they introduced Jenssen a full 6 books before she should show up. But who cares, they seem to be going over the series and picking random names to throw in with little care for who they actually are or their characterization (like Giller and Michael).

Yeah wasn't Giller a good wizard? Theres alot of things about the show that **** the books up so dont watch it if youre expecting a good adaptation.

I'm assuming they changed them to having the same mother for a reason. Otherwise it changes the dynamic alot if it happened more than once.

Plus Disney is behind the show so the "incident" is proabalby either glossed over or changed.

Yeah, Giller's a good guy and Denna's dead but that does not seem to bother the people running the show. As I said, just picking names and writing characters around it.

But then I knew we were in for trouble when it started with Richard's "father" being alive and Nass not being a child molester.

Well in the show Richard already was captured by Denna and "trained"( if you can even call it that...it lasted a couple days of simple torture in the show, not at all like the book) Then he killed her(without turning the blade white or anything like that) and the Mord Sith brought her back to life. Plus they make it in the show so that anyone can get the power of Orden , they just have to put the boxes together! And then Richard gets it! Thats hilariously terrible.

its actually pretty quick but the blade did go white.....in the book his capture/training takes up Id say the last third of the book....I view the show as a separate entity and I like to stare at Bridget Regan

As I said, if I'm home I check it out, if I'm not then no big deal. I've seen 5 episodes now. One would think that being one of my favorite series I would be going nutz over it. I knew it was doomed the moment Disney got it's hands on it.

At times it's as brutal as GRRM's books but of course we'll never get that. All the beheading, rapes, (brutal) tortures, cannibalism, child molestation, etc will never happen. It's a shame, SOT would make a great companion to Song Of Fire And Ice on HBO, but it's on Disney.
