The Blu-ray version will feature the shifted IMAX aspect ratios

THE SKINNY: We know THE DARK KNIGHT isn't even out in theaters yet (less than two weeks away!), but let's admit it: We already know that we'll be adding this one to our personal DVD collections.

iF MAGAZINE did a bit of investigating at the junket last weekend to squeeze out any details we could get from the filmmakers regarding what juicy extras we can look forward to. While director Christopher Nolan and producers Charles Roven and Emma Thomas had not met to discuss the DVD yet at the time of THE DARK KNIGHT junket, they will able to throw us a few scraps.

Nolan and Thomas both brought up the anticipated Blu-ray version and its capabilities. Nolan summed it up by saying, "The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you'll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray. The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular."

There are a couple of elements that fans will not be seeing. Thomas said that it's "unlikely" that the DVD will contain alternate takes of Heath Ledger as the Joker [during the junket, the filmmakers and fellow cast members mentioned how Ledger would occasionally riff or improvise some of his dialogue], but pointed out that they have not decided anything for sure yet.

Another popular feature that THE DARK KNIGHT DVD won't have according to Roven: deleted scenes.

"We know there won't be any deleted scenes because there never are," says Roven, noting director Nolan puts everything of importance in the actual movie. "There weren't any on BATMAN BEGINS and there weren't any on this one."

Apart from that, Nolan promised us some "very interesting extras". The man hasn't failed us thus far, so we'll be waiting in excited anticipation.

TDK's director cut?

You just saw it in theaters, bub.

Im pretty sure there is a different ending. I SWEAR i saw an interview with Christian Bale in like february or march saying that this movies ending and begins ending are a like. Anyone remember seeing that?

It says "Service Unavailable".
I'll quote it:

Well werent day. Both end with Gordon speaking to batman and Batman making an "escape". Similar end credits as well. I doubt if Bales said it, he ment that the endings would be carbon copies. The ending was also pretty strong so i dont see how Nolan would shoot a totally different ending.

Batman137: The endings are somewhat alike in that they both tease the audience. That's probably what he was referring to.

I guess the only thing I wish they showed in the movie is Joker actually putting a smile on someone's face.

I felt like the scene with him and Gambol was cut very weird. It looked like he was going to slice his cheek and the next cut showed Gambol on the ground. It felt like a scene edited for TV so to cutout the gory parts.

That's the only thing I would want. The rest of the movie, perfect.

And Maggie said she would love to do a third film several months ago and Eckhart said Dent gets scarred by acid in the November today show clip. Bottom line, I would take everything the cast and crew says months before the release with a grain of salt.

Honestly I'd be happy with an extra that has alternate takes of some of the Joker's scenes. That could easily be included and wouldn't have much to do with the film itself.

All, I'm hoping for Heath-wise is maybe some on-set footage, maybe some interviews conducted on set during production...also some make-up tests/behind the scenes of it all getting applied to Ledger and Eckhart

I have always wanted a dvd release in which there is a list of deleted scenes and you can add which ones you want in and you can watch that film you made with seamless audio and picture.

I say at least put it on Bluray, you could put a two disk set both BD-50's and you are set. enough room for a movie and special features on each disk.

I would like a rated R version with blood and stuff other than that a few deleted scenes or extended cuts wouldnt hurt

I don't think they ever filmed a bloody version. They'd have to go through the entire film again to add it. That would be a waste of time and money, just to add some blood. :oldrazz:

I dont want extream blood or anything like that lol but Joker was getting brutally beat in the interogation scene, Batman was getting hit with a crow bar and the bank manager was shot at the knee cap, there are a few shots that can add a bit of blood but its not anything i would miss. This is my favorite movie and i cant wait to see it again even after watching it 3 times

Sorry to bump, but am I the only one who thinks they should release a Jokerized version of the film? You know, have the writing like on the Jokerized trailer and have deleted scenes of The Joker and alternative takes.

^that would be awesome. They should at least feature the Jokerized trailer.

There's a hole in his shirt, so he was shot in his torso. :oldrazz:

Definitely would love an extended cut. As well as an 'unrated' cut just so they could include at least one drop of blood somewhere, I mean it just would feel more gritty and real much like the graphic novels and what not. Anyways just my 2 cents.
