After 3 years and a whole lot of anticipation, I have finally seen The Dark Knight and I left feeling speechless, yet now I have a voice.
Was it worth the wait? Definitely. Although the film is by no means perfect, it comes very close to what we could ever want from a Batman film, so close in fact that I think it will be a VERY long time until it's topped.
My main gripe with the movie is how some things are left unexplained in parts and how the pace is so quick at times that you dont have enough time to soak up every scene. The fact that some scenes are so quick, can be excused as there is so much to cram into the 2 hour and a half hour time slot (which just flies by, I might add) and it still leaves you begging for more.
Overall, i'm disappointed that the epic build up to it has ended, I'm also upset that we will have to wait quite some time to see anything like it again and especially more upset that Heath Ledger is not around to appreciate the amount of genius work he put behind a well loved character. The man himself will be sorely missed by fans and the movie industry as a whole, he is worthy of much praise for what he did for this film.
Oh and before I forget, GO SEE IT AT THE IMAX! the scenes specifically shot using the Imax camera took my breath away and I urge people to experience it at least once.
Above all, a top film and worth the hype.
Yeah i totally agree, just got back home from my fun day out in london, saw the 5.15 showing at the imax, bit disappointed that there were no jokers in the crowd lol although there were a couple of bats, if i'd known i would have jokered up lol. If you need any convincing to go to the imax then let the gasps when the prologue kicked in and the immense scale of the height and dizziness of the images made a couple behind me say that they thought it was like being there. Oh and just incase you wanted my two cents, loved it, me and my mates didn't say anything for a few minutes, we didn't need to, there were no words needed.
Just saw Kermode's mini review on The Culture Show. In summary, he likes it, but feels he needs to see it more times to love it. That's why I love the man- he can be professional and emotive simultaneously.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of him too - I wonder if he'll have seen it again by the time he reviews it tomorrow?
I saw it again tonight - second time - and unfortunately I had the same reaction. It's a really good film - great scenes, great performances, great ideas. But it just lacks that narrative drive and focus that Begins had that made it great. So whilst Batman Begins was a film that was more than the sum of its parts, The Dark Knight ends up being a film that is less than its parts.
I'm not heartbroken by my disappointment, just disappointed - but it has made me appreciate just how great a film Batman Begins really is.
