I know this would be a very risky decision, but seeing as how movies are technically alternate universes with comic characters (much as TAS and the old movie series could be considered two alternates)... I came up with the idea the other day that, perhaps Nolan could introduce his own villain?

As I said, this would likely be very risky, and it'd have to be a damned good villain, but when you think about it, he's already introduced a major character into this universe, Rachel Dawes. Also, the old movie series introduced a number of major female characters (although I can't really say they had a large impact).

Also, Harley Quinn, who is notable for having been created in The Animated Series, turned out to be a smash hit with Batman fans.

Just curious as to whether or not I'm the only one who thought this could be a series option for Nolan's films.

I don't really think Nolan should create his own Batman villain.

I wouldn't mind although its hard to flesh out a new character enough in a new film since there won't particularly be enough time to do them justice.

It's more than feasible although most people would be kinda upset that some other batman villains never made it....

I would be one of those people.

One of my favorite things about Batman is his large history of iconic enemies who have challenged Batman in different ways and formed who he has become. I would estimate that it's one of Nolan's favorite things about Batman too. In a way, Batman's villains help define him. And to see a completely new villain rather than anyone from Batman's 70-year-old cast of villains would leave many people quite sad.

He can make up a crime boss for all I care (Gamble?), but definitely not a full-fledged super villain. Not unless Nolan stays on until Batman 10 and runs out of villains to use.

Even at Batman 10, I'd prefer repeat villains with new stories over a made-up villain. There are plenty to tell.

I'd prefer a villain that's already been made, but I'm fine with original characters. I like Rachel Dawes and Dr. Chase Meridian. Why not a new villain.

I think he could he make one as long as he has another classic villian with him. Like Max Shrek in Returns

I voted no, Batman has enough villains to deal with. If Nolan does for third movie I wouldn't hate it.

Whilst I think Bats has more than enough villains to choose from that could be adapted as the primary adversary, it wouldn't really bother me if Nolan were to create a new mob boss or underworld figure for a minor villain role. But really, Batman has almost an embarrassment of riches when it comes to villains, so I think creating an original villain is pointless when there is such a plethora of characters to choose.

Yeah, honestly, I'd be pretty pissed if Nolan just completely blocked out some other more notable villains to make room for his own. Batman's rogues gallery is probably one of my favorite things about Batman, but hey... If the new villain were to show up on the side of another major villain that's already been created... Well, I think that'd be the optimum choice (if he's to create a new villain, that is).

Nolan should not create a villain and Max Shrek was pointless.

I don't mind the occasional mob boss, or side character (Earle, Lau, Gamble, etc), but it's kind of pointless to create a major villain for a Batman franchise. He already has arguably the best rogue gallery in comics. There are plenty of good characters that have not been introduced in live action, as well as quite a few that I wouldn't mind seeing again in the Nolan-verse. That being said, does anyone remember the rumors floating around about Batman Begins when the script was being written? I remember there were rumors of Nolan and Goyer creating a new villain specifically for the film named the Red Baron (or something similar at least). This thread reminded me of that immediately. In retrospect it's pretty funny how off some of those rumors were.

I don't mind Nolan creating new characters, but not new villians. I prefer him using a popular villian & using it like it his own.

How dare you call this man pointless! :hyper:

I'd rather they not do that. I mean the comics are such a rich vacuum of material, they can do anything. If they want to do something that an A-lister does not allow, rewrite a B-lister that most people wouldn't mind. That is what Burton did with Penguin to great success. That is what the SSM cartoon did with Tombstone to great success. That is what Singer did to William Stryker to great success. That is what Raimi did with Sandman to mixed success.

But I suppose it could work. Also, Max Schreck is an awesome villain and Walken practically steals the show if Pffeifer hadn't gotten there first. I think Max Schreck is one of the most successful comic book movie villains and is completely made up for that movie.

As a supporting villain that Schreck and Quinn were can work, but to create their own lead villain is just a waste of the greatest rogues gallery in comics

He created Rachel Dawes, Gamble, Lau, etc... that's good enough. Way too many major villains in the Batman mythos that are too godo to pass up on in the films. Why waste time creating one?

Only, and I say again, ONLY if they're extremely good! But right now there's enough villains to use.

Two-Face
Bane
Black Mask
Mr. Freeze (possibly, might not fit in with realism)
The Riddler

And quite honestly, before he goes to making up villains, I'd like him to use up some of the more minor villains, in a realistic way, such as:

Hugo Strange
Mad Hatter
Hush
Firefly
Deadshot
Cluemaster
Anarky

And maybe even take such villains like "Hangman" and change them as needed. There's a lot of possibilities. And with minor villains such as these, it wouldn't be that upsetting to change the character a lot, as it would be with say Joker or Two-Face.

Im fine with him creating a minor villian like Gamble. The comics include new characters all the time.

Put someone like Black Mask in as a second villain in the third one... small enough to not take away from Two-face, fits into the "realistic" view the films are taking, fits in with the mob part, is one of the villains who hasn't been put in film yet even though he would translate really easily, and he is one of those villains that isn't really an icon so most people (non-comic book readers)will probably think Nolan made him up anyways
