Action-Adventure TENET

Action movies and adventure films.
Warning. Nine seconds have been cut from the film by the BBFC for the UK home video release. Its bits of a scene show a female character being beaten. The home video releases outside of the UK are uncut like Nolan intended. All of WB's bluray and UHD releases are region free so any Hype members that wants to own the proper version of the film can import from another country and the film will play on your UK bluray player.

Yes. That's been known since August

If we get all the Marvel and Star Wars content that’s promised to us in 2021, I think the price increase will be worth it for Disney+ IMO. I am finding it harder justify the price increase for Netflix though. Same with HBOMax.

Yeah, I mean he flat out didn't tell people who he was when he was starting out just so he could earn it on his own.

To be fair though, he definitely has some good charisma genes on his side. :oldrazz: He's definitely got his own presence though and doesn't just feel like Denzel Jr. at all.

He displays much his pops remarkable level of class and professionalism but that's the only thing I've seen so far. He's definitely his own actor it seems.

Yes. Perhaps some nepotism was involved but I'd reckon if it were he'd have been in loads more stuff years ago so I don't think it was. From Ballers to Tenet in 5 years shows some range.

Oh, I wasn't mentioning due to nepotism. It was just funny how you mention Denzel when speaking about JDW breaking the trend of the same train of leading actors in films like this.

Great point. I wanna bet probably the studio would have demanded a bankable star. I kinda feel for JDW. Without Covid, this would probably have grossed 600-700 million and had a huge marketing campaign worldwide for him.

Spoilers Questions:

Ok so those elevators are time machines but when you go through you become inverted and need oxygen.

So how come when they keep traveling back in the past ....they don't need oxygen masks anymore or be inverted ??? Like Kat in the Yacht in Vietnam

I'm still due for my rewatch...but from memory...here's how it works:

You invert to travel back into the past....but once in the past, you can still go through a turnstile and "un-invert" so now you're essentially moving forward again through the past (IE Kat is basically in a Back to the Future 2 scenario on the yacht). Kat is not inverted there. She used inversion to get there, but then she's back to moving forwards in time, just through past events.

My favorite new thing I noticed, was the broken mirror when the car chase starts on Neil's BMW... and then when gets "fixed" during the car chase when a car hits it.

That was one of my favourite shots as well.

It was a highlight in the Final Trailer too. Definitely one of the money shots in that trailer.

It does get better the more you watch it.

But people are just ignoring the 2 major plot holes.

1. Kat doesn’t need oxygen mask on Yacht
2. Sator dies on Yacht before the movie then why is he still around throughout the movie?

Kat’s not inverted at that point.

@Longshot777

Yeah, she's not inverted on the yacht. If she was inverted there than everything around her would appear as backwards. Even if you don't literally see her un-invert herself there, the film doesn't hold our hand for each inversion/un-inversion once it's established how the rules work.

Also, as to your second point, she doesn't kill the original Sator. Sator also travels back to that point in time, and chooses that as his moment to die because it's the last time he can remember being happy. So we're dealing with Sator # 2 posing as Sator 'Prime' here to bask in the love of his wife. But Kat # 2 is also posing as Kat 'Prime' here, and she tricks him.

Great !! plot holes closed.

Now when the protagonist goes to the past and then UNvert himself he is now moving forward and living in the past right?? Because the Turntiles is not really a time machine and he can’t go back to the future which is his “actual” timeline??

And during those timelines like the airport scene there are 3 versions of him ...like his:

1. normal self
2. The one he fought at the airport
3. The guy that just won the final battle before and has the 2/3 of the machine

Am I right??

Watching parts of this flick again, I just don’t like how it looks. The contrast level they chose is way too high.

Some scenes have downright crushed blacks. In some scenes, Washington’s hair and beard blend into the black and white bar on the top and bottom of the screen. The blacks are so crushed that his hair and beard are pitch black!

I can’t help but wonder how Pfister would’ve shot it. I always thought Pfister was able to create images that had inky blacks yet also looked very glossy. Look at Inception. Such a slick looking movie. Even high contrasty movies like Dark Knight Rises didn’t look crushed at all.

Tenet often looks like an edgy MTV commercial from the 00’s. It has that high contrast, crushed look.

on the other hand, there are no random blurry shots like there was in Interstellar. Step up. I guess.

So far the Hoyte/Nolan collab for me:

interstellar (eh)

dunkirk (yay)

tenet (eh)

I miss Pfister.

still impressed JD got the lead. Always nice to see lead roles in blockbusters go to up n coming stars than the same 20 dudes especially rare to see a Black man in such roles not named Denzel or Will or Wesley.

I won't lie, I never would've thought Nolan would cast a POC as one of his leads. I am pleasantly surprised.

I think Hoytema is one of the best DPs out there and I love how Interstellar and Dunkirk look (not to mention Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, etc.). Tenet has some strong visuals, too, but you have a point about the contrast and crushed blacks. Which is weird because that's never really been a thing with Hoytema's photography before. I thought his stuff has always looked pretty velvety and balanced before but for some reason in Tenet they kind of pushed the contrast a little too hard. And the palette's a bit ugly.
