Salvation as a concept was great, but then they gave it to McG to direct.
Salvation has the same basic premise as T2. Except, in the future.Salvation had the right idea, it was different than T3/Genysis or Dark Fate and it made sense to go the future war but the execution got messed up. Messy landing!
There's still so much potential in exploring that than just some crazy new twists like the other sequels.
The franchise shouldn't become too different and new though just for the sake of it. That's why the franchise needs to just end as it's too limiting
I disagree. McG wasn't the problem. The problem was while the basic concept was right, what they filled it in with is almost all wrong wrong. Future war? Good. John trying to be a leader? Good. John and Kyle? Good. The rest? Another crappy retread. Why is Clash of the Titans' character in the movie other then because of T2?Salvation as a concept was great, but then they gave it to McG to direct.
I don't particularly think that.Salvation has the same basic premise as T2. Except, in the future.

I just don't know where else you could go with Terminator that HASN'T been tried yet and expect better results.
I mean what have they tried?
Its all pretty much the same idea they have gone with, without really trying a new formula, not even really changing the theme of it.
I think there is still a lot left in the tank.
You can do a downright slasher or horror movie where i dont know, a bunch of mercenaries or so break into a locked down lab for something and then get hunted by a terminator and killed off one by one.
Something like a Alien like terminator movie.
You could do several type of war movies in the universe and so on.
Problem is if you do the same kind of movie with the same kind of theme, that has gotten stale as hell.
But who knows, dark fate has put a hole in my interest in future movies to be honest.
The new timeline is fine, but im not particular interested in it.
The Genysis timeline interested me more.
But this one without John connor in it and all, eh im not so super into that.

Agree... it's like they felt that t2 is the formula, but they didn't follow it up with the result.Salvation has the same basic premise as T2. Except, in the future.
I don't think what a third Terminator movie should be is hard to understand. It should be Judgement Day. The event, not the film. Stop with the pushing it off into the distant future. Stop with the buddy Terminator. Force John into a leadership role, because that is what he is suppose to be. No time travel. I have some ideas for how to keep the future present, but what you don't need is things from the future coming back to the past mess with John. That includes Terminators. You can have them, but make them modern and far less capable, meaning going through a few wouldn't be an issue.
These movies and show have been so determined to not give what the first two original films promised. Instead they seem determined to give you T2 again, just bad.
John Connor not existing anymore just isn't right. He doesn't have to be a major role in every film but it was nice to have Future John's presence in T 1-3 even by exposition. Future John's cameo in T2's intro was simple but very effective. A lesser extent in T3's cameo but still cool.
It's crazy and sad that of all the John Connor's in the films, T2's cameo is the best! Something about that actor, his look and his presence stands out in such a great way and all he did was walked through a bunker hallway and onto the battlefield looking around.
If you're going to keep featuring him then make him the badass he's supposed to be and if not, then leave him in the future without killing him off in such a way like Dark Fate. I like future and present Danny but no..just no!
I think the best thing is to focus the moment AI takes over the world... how governments react, what happens to our cities... imagine ID4, that was a cool movie, now imagine it being darker... and we see John Connor and Sarah doing their best to escape it.. T3 had the right idea, just to get them safe no matter what... expand on that... but for the majority of the movie. Leave it on a cliff edge with them plotting how to resist.
I will always watch a new Terminator thing, but they have sh*t the bed so many times that I can't even think of something interesting to do. I smell a complete reboot down the line, and I don't wanna.
I find Dark Fate kind of funny in hindsight. The same film that banks on your love for Sarah Connor fridges her son in the opening scene. Not a great plan.

They definitely over-played their hand there. Like they have that weird logo sequence with clips of Linda Hamilton from T2 which contextually don't really have much to do with the actual plot of Dark Fate. We get Linda Hamilton back, but even that wasn't enough to rebuild interest in the franchise. "Hm, all the other movies were missing Linda Hamilton. Maybe bringing her back will get people on board again." Nope.
Meh. I am starting to get tired of empty nostalgia movies. For me, it will take more than slapping the name Terminator on something for me to care. At this point, the movie is going to actually have to be....good. Same for a lot of the bad empty nostalgia requels they are plaguing us with lately.

I mean we've seen what happens. They launch nukes at all the major cities and send people into bunkers and start Judgment Day.
Definitely. I'd take T3, TG, and TDF over it any day (I'd even binge them!).I'm an hour in to Terminator Salvation and it is far and away the worst in the franchise.

I missed Salvation at the cinema, but I bought the DVD when it first came out. I watched it once and gave it away.I don't know about Genisys, but I'd definitely rather watch T3 or Dark Fate over it. Salvation is just too frustrating of a movie for me to sit through anymore not to mention its honestly a pretty boring film as well.
Dark Fate dropped onto Epix this weekend.
Anybody watch it?
