Np, it should be in that thread also...

With Perry dropping out and endorsing Newt, this week has been an utter disaster for Romney.

If Romney had assumed that his party will just hand him the candidancy on a silver platter, he should have another thought coming. I hope both Newt and Romney (and maybe even Paul) will continue this battle until the primary.

The good news for Romney is that is support in South Carolina hasn't really been going down, just that Newt has been rising by taking votes from Perry & Santorum. In South Carolina where Romney has 30-35% of the vote, this is an issue. In Florida where Romney is polling around 45%, it will be a bigger challenge. Since Paul's votes are pretty much locked in, Gingrich would outright have to take votes away from Romney to win Florida.

and heree comes newt skeletons in the closet...ex wife trashes him

I think Perry dropping out throws South Carolina into a statistical dead heat between Romney and Gingrich. To be honest, I hope Gingrich wins South Carolina.

Romney is by far the lesser of two evils between himself and Gingrich.

I cannot stand either of them but Romney needs knocked down a peg or two.

The CBS Evening News is reporting that latest polling shows Gingrich now leading Romney in South Carolina. It's still well within the margin of error but it's interesting to see how quickly things have changed.

I rather it be Paul...but it's at least interesting now.

Yeah, based on everything that has happened in the past few days (Santorum technically winning Iowa....sorta, Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman dropping out, Newt's ex wife, Mitt Romney acting more like John Kerry as opposed to his more Nixonian persona), I honestly have no idea what's going to happen.

It is a tough call because it is hard to know whose lead has been blown. Has Romney blown his lead on Gringrich? OR is it Gingrich who blew his lead on Romney and now is taking it back?

Polls and crowds can show momentum, but it also can cause people to get carried away. Remember the day of Iowa, in 08 Hillary lead NH by 9 points. O wins Iowa, a week later, Hillary trails in double digits on election day only to win by 8%.

Romney had a 10-12% lead on Monday, it's hard to believe Gingrich has gained that much support since then. I expect a Romney win by 3-5% points; enough to claim a win but enough for Gingrich to justify staying in the race.

I hope Gingrich wins SC and enough subsequent states to stretch these primaries into a never-ending Hillary/Obama-esque scorched Earth fiasco.

I love how the South Carolina people are supposedly religious and even asked Romney if he believed Jesus Christ is his only Lord and Saviour...and yet having affairs is totally fine.

Well, Mormons do go to a Church called "The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints."

...quite a few of us around here have said Mitt Romney is the GOP equivalent of John Kerry since the beginning. :oldrazz:

This would be very good for the gop just like it was for O.

My ideal situation would be Paul win SC followed by Gingrich, a close third by Romney, and a distant fourth by Santorum.

However, the fact is Gingrich will mount a strong challenge, but fall just short of Romney...difficult for me to believe Gingrich can recover from such a huge margin, or on the flip side Romney lose such a huge lead...IN THAT SHORT OF TIME!

Look, one can not run the government like a business. You can create an atmosphere for business to thrive; but, one has to politic with Congress to get things done, LEGISLATIVELY. The only way to run government like a business, is for Romney to sign a record number of "Executive Order"...which for that purpose would be un-Constitutional; which no one seems to follow anymore. So I hope Romney come in third.

Let's Go Paul!

Because no one can see alternate realities, it's hard to prove whether or not it was good for Obama. If he wrapped up the nomination in January, he probably still would have won the Presidency by the same incredible margin. There were many other factors at play that year. Nobody wants a protracted primary. It may not have fatally wounded Obama, but that's the exception, not the rule. I don't think a primary will change the odds that much, but I would like to see Romney sweat.

There was one big thing that occurred largely because of the long primary that really helped Obama. McCain choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate in an attempt to win over Clinton voters. It ended up backfiring for him in a big way and he probably wouldn't have done it had Obama wrapped things up in February.
