I love Florence Welch, but that No Light No Light video did not age well at all, especially when you learn the contortionist who plays the voodoo priest was in straight up blackface.

I guess I care about the next James Bond movie now.
This honestly.
Same. I went from not caring if they ever made another Bond film again after NTTD to being genuinely intrigued with Villeneuve at the helm.

Still not enthused about Amazon's insistence on a "James Bond universe" of spinoffs though. Not sure why they even think that's a good idea after audiences have grown tired of that with franchises that actually warrant it like Marvel and Star Wars but that can just blow up in their face on its own.

Honestly, I didn’t even watch the video, I just know the song works.

But that is wild for 2011/2012.

The spin-off stuff for major IPs just feel a shoo-in now. Unless someone interesting is actually involved in the creative process, I just don't even bother.

But Bond is kinda like Mission Impossible for me. I don't really anticipate them until major marketing starts and I usually enjoy them plenty. But I might actually follow along with production a bit here. Villeneuve is one of our best.

I know Villeneuve has said in the past that Bond would be a franchise he would want to be part of but I can't say that the property itself makes me that hyped compared to the deeper things Villeneuve tends to tackle.

That being said, he never seems to miss so I'm sure it will be a great Bond film and I'm certainly going on opening night. While I generally don't care much about popularity and revenue this would be a time where I'd be glad to see the director get more mainstream attention and success so he'll keep getting good budgets to make his great films.

Pretty sure in Dune "Arrival" there was something about Quantum of Time being Non Linear, I'm sure it'll all make sense?

Depending on how well they click during Messiah, I imagine that Linus Sandgren might be a possibility to shoot this as well.

Him or Fraser would be awesome. Would be intriguing to see how Deakin’s Bond work differs with Denis from what he did with Mendes, though. Skyfall is THE all-timer for Bond cinematography. :hrt:

Linus Sandgren would be another option I could see, since he’s doing Dune Messiah. Also did cinematography for No Time to Die. So, he has experience with Bond like Deakins.

Rooting for Fraser or Deakins, though.

I kind of thought we’d be in for a lighter tone to contrast the Craig era.

Instead we might be contrasting by… going even darker?

Honestly I'm over the moon with this decision.

I love James Bond, but personally I just always tend to prefer when the films better reflect the character as he was depicted in the original Ian Fleming novels than in the lighter eras such as Moore, Brosnan or the late Connery era. There's a fair bit more dimension and intrigue with Bond as a character in the books than in most of those films, where they tend to over exaggerate his personality into a caricature and lean into Bond being almost like a superhero.

The crowd hoping for a lighter, more fun Bond are not gonna be happy with this.

Oh most certainly not.

But then, the lighter Bond films were never actually showcasing the character that Ian Fleming created in the first place. Fleming would get fantastical with some of his plots and Bond would develop more of a wit and wry sense of humor in his dialogue over the course of the books, but the books are a fair bit more introspective with Bond's character and the action/violence that Bond endures in them is often far more visceral.

As an aside, I'd also argue that the Austin Powers films may well have killed any chance of the franchise making a full pivot back to the vein of the Roger Moore era. At best, we'd only ever be able to go back to something like Goldeneye or Tomorrow Never Dies anyway. It's like wanting the next Batman film series to be a massive throwback to the Adam West show specifically, as opposed to the more common debate of "Should Batman be more fantastical or more grounded and gritty?"

What I hope Denis does with the movie.

God, that would rule.

I know that the Roger Moore Moonraker movie has its fans and it's certainly a peak for the franchise in that era's direction of silliness and lighthearted adventure, but the original Fleming book is one of the absolute best he ever wrote. VERY tough call to pick between it, Casino Royale or From Russia With Love, with On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice being the absolute pinnacle of Fleming's prose.

NTTD is the 2nd best-looking Bond movie so I'd definitely be down for Sandgren for sure.

If they ever do decide to make a "period piece" Bond movie, the book version of Moonraker would get my vote.

I'd be over the moon for that. Like I said before, Fleming's Moonraker is one of his absolute finest Bond novels.

Oh they got an elite director.

Also, might they make Q a woman?

Not that I care if Q is a woman, but is that important in representation terms?
