It was James Brolin actually, Moore wanted out prior to filming Octopussy and the movie almost starred Brolin instead.

Oh okay. That makes a bit more sense.

It’s funny when you think of some of those almost recasts that could have happened back then. In some alternate universe, Tony Danza was Superman. :hehe:

His screen test is online.

But it was for the best. He played someone cooler and sexier than James Bond… PW Herman.

Two Bonds in a thirty year span is kind of wild, considering we were up to four in the thirty years after Dr. No.

This is the movie with Tina Turner singing about being in love with a satellite and Famke Jansen strangling people with her thighs.
It really makes you appreciate the times where they take a step back and go "You know what? We don't really need to have the song title match the movie title".

Though I still think they were cowards for not having a song called "Octopussy". :o

So, considering their working relationship, do we think Zimmer returns to score this for Denis?

He passed off the Batman portions of BVS to Junkie XL way back when because he thought it would be odd handling Batman after doing The Dark Knight Trilogy… but I almost feel like Bond is a whole different animal than Batman. The differences between Affleck and Bale’s takes were stark. This new 007 will be younger, but beyond that the characterization might not be far off.

Batman was a totally different situation. Hans spent almost a decade composing the scores to Nolan's Batman trilogy. It would make sense why he felt like he had exhausted his creative juices with respect to Batman and didn't want to confuse things by scoring a new take after spending so long on Nolan. Although Hans basically did end up scoring Batman for Batman v Superman since Junkie wasn't really up to the task. Pieces like a A Beautiful Lie which played over Bruce's origin were scored by Hans after all.

Zimmer's work on No Time to Die is very different. He was brought in last minute to score the last film of Craig's five film tenure. I doubt he felt like he developed a strong personal take or attachment to his work on the film like he did with Nolan's Batman.

If Denis is going to bring Hans in on this, I hope Hans has a more personal/inspired take for this score. There were action cues in the third act of NTTD that sounded ripped right out of his Batman scores. Personally, I don't think Zimmer is the right fit for Bond. Bond scores are better when they lean more classical and melodic with lots of brass. Zimmer's more rhythmic, less melodic style isn't the best fit for the series.
