The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

I still need to see one of them on a tree. :o

Speaking of BTAS, I honestly think the art direction managed to make this Batman visually work in daylight. I really like the look of the chase through the forest with Croc in the episode "Sideshow".

All this early (very) positive buzz is really surprising because Keaton aside, the movie seems to essentially be what everyone is apparently getting sick of (if they haven't already for years like I have) in comic book movies like lazy humor, meta jokes, CGI action, green screens, etc. And yet...

I'm really getting more and more curious.

To be fair, most of those things have factored into even the most well-received CBMs in the last decade or so. It’s just a matter of the story and performances being good enough that those things don’t seem so glaring.

I think that is a bit simplistic...people are tired of those things if the film only has that to offer. If they are there as part of an enjoyable narrative they have no issues with it.

Put it this way... there is a reason Antman 3 failed but Guardians 3 didn't. (I saw neither) Listen to how people describe them and you can see that despite having similar tropes and failures one told a great heartfelt story the other didn't.

If The Flash story works no one will care about bad jokes and meta storytelling in front of green screens. It's all about engagement that is what Snyder never understood.

I'm still perplexed as to why they used a CGI mask for Ben Affleck and not a practical one.

The Flash movie trailer is probably the most promoted movie trailer of the year so far. I just don’t understand why WBD put it in the middle of June with all that competition. This seems like the perfect Christmas movie. I would have switched this movie with Aquaman 2.

It's classic sponcon, Andy Muschietti directed IT plus King shows up in Chapter 2.

Oh I actually agree with both of you!
I admit my post wasn't very developed but you get the idea I was implying : the film seems to have genuinly more to offer than a pile of genre clichés. :cwink:

Not sure why you brought Snyder though @dhandler01, I hope I didn't sound like I was part of the cult! :funny:
Just kidding, I get what you mean. I haven't seen these latest Marvel movies either, I've actually seen less than half of what that studio produces in total... But yeah, I've noticed and I'm glad that a real good story seems to be back as a main requirement for movies that, for me perhaps more than others, have generally been crushed by shallow formulas for too long.

Ah! I didn't thought of that... but I want to believe aha.

I brought him up as an example...it was him or Michael Bay!:D

King was fond enough of what Muschietti did with IT that he probably got the advanced preview as a favor, maybe brought his grandkids along.

Cruise was definitely a surprise, though.

I think between 120-140M opening weekend would be a huge win for this movie.

WB's probably about to really crank up the marketing in these final weeks. Should be interesting!

Man Monday feels like forever from now...

been rewatching batman returns to hype myself up for the flash.

returns is a movie i was initially lukewarm about, because it was not the sequel i expected back when i originally watched it.

but as i get older, the more i appreciate it.

watching it again - also's convinced me that keaton's still the best looking in the batsuit and has the best bat-voice.
he really set the bar.

it also helps that the batman returns cowl looks awesome.

I prefer Batman Returns to Batman. Always have. I will rewatch both before seeing The Flash.

Keaton created the idea of Batman having a different voice from Bruce Wayne. It hadn’t been done in any Batman adaptation prior to 1989. I don’t even think the comics had mentioned there being a different voice for either character.
