The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

To me showing GG is the equivalent of The Dark Knight trailers showing off Two Face. Sure people suspected Harvey would become Two Face, but people were hyped to see it happen in the actual movie.

I think that was Webb's plan from the get-go. His comment about "you think you know but you have no idea," I'm guessing was mainly about this reveal of Harry as the Goblin. [BLACKOUT]And possibly about Gwen's death too. But they correlate.[/BLACKOUT] I really think that was his intention--to keep this a surprise and closely guarded. Leave it up to the marketing division at Sony to ruin any chance of that happening.

It's been holding steady or decreasing overseas... some good numbers, but nothing great at the moment. Plus, it's the legs I'm really worried about.

That does not bode well. Two weeks and only $137 million? Even if this opening weekend is something amazing like $75 million, that would put this film at lower than $200 million after two weeks of release. This film has quite an uphill battle to reach the $850 million that many of you have predicted.

At this point I just hope the film earns enough to keep Sony in business. They are still going to make TASM3 either way (which begins filming in October) and will probably start with production of Sinister Six sometime in 2015-2016 for a 2017 release.

We know that Sony will keep making Spider-Man movies, so it's not like we have to worry about them pulling the plug on the franchise. Only way that would happen is if these movies literally weren't profitable enough and the film rights went back to Disney, but no one would complain about that I'm sure. Isn't the company likely to go bankrupt in the next few years? I remember reading a report saying that there is a 75% chance of that actually happening.

Sony isn't going to go bankrupt. Kaz Hirai has been making the right move to steer the company back to profitability.

Sony has been ailing for some time. Sony has sold off assets in order to stay afloat. Sony has also lost millions of dollars, quarter after quarter. Now Sony is selling off their PC unit (Vaio) and splitting their television unit. Sony just lost $1.1 billion and their television marketnshare continues to dwindle after ten straight years of annual losses. Sony has been outmaneuvered in key markets in the electronics sector, such as television, phones, computers, tablets etc. Sony/Colombia does well enough, and other branches of Sony do okay (Sony Financial), but the electronics side continues to drag down the entire parent company.

75 million ow? No way it makes less than 90.

Well, SONY's films are still making money, and we don't hear many box office bombs coming from them, they're also in other businesses.

There is always talk of Sony going bankrupt or going out of business but I'm assuming they will continue cutting from their electronics department in order to stay alive. And of course, the reason why I don't care too much about box office is that sony is going to keep making more Spider-Man related movies regardless of how much each SpiderMan film makes. Otherwise they probably would go bankrupt at that point.

I enjoy the reboot but i really think they shot themselves in the foot by doing it so early while Sam Raimi's era was still so popular. It will take a The Dark Knight type of event for Spider-Man to get that popular again.

I don't care if Spider-Man isn't that popular anymore. If they keep making movies and I keep loving them... then that's all I really care about.

According to Variety, the poor performances of Robocop and Monuments Men is why ASM 2 needs to be a huge hit.

So in that case, sony will either just continue making more Spider-Man movies or will too terribly and have to make a deal with Disney (either selling the rights back or letting them use the character in the Avengers for a profit).

In 2012 they were actually at the top of the market, but they dropped last year, my guess is due to their lack of major franchises. They still get some of the profit from Bond movies though, and they have another Dan Brown adaptation coming up in 2015, along with The Smurfs and Hotel Transylvania.

SONY may not have the most powerful heavy-hitters, but their situation isn't much worse than other studios not named Disney or Warner Bros.

In 2012 they had TASM1, Skyfall, and MIB3 all in one year and grossed more than any other film studio I believe. They didn't have anything much for 2013 and did poorly, which is why they probably want to get a Spider-Man related film out each year to prevent that from happening in the future.

That is true.

I agree with you guys. Sony has had a run of something like 11 of the last 12 years with domestic grosses over $1 billion, which is best behind WB I think. Yes, Sony's got to do something with their stable of properties... besides Spidey and Bond, I'm not sure if they've got anything strong. Smurfs maybe. MIB is stale I think. Ghostbusters? questionable. Maybe the animated stuff like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania and maybe they can get that Steve Jobs movie off the ground with Leonardo DiCaprio. I don't get the feeling Annie is going to be too big this winter, but it could be.

Universal, Paramount and Fox have had some very lean years mixed in with their boom years over the past decade. WB with Potter & Nolan movies and Disney with all their Pixar, POTC and now Marvel hits are the big kids on the block, but from what I can tell from boxofficemojo, Sony has done very well overall for the past dozen years.

This movie will make at least 800 million. The first one made 762 million and if not for that shooting probly would have been like 780 has movie adtendence was down for a little bit. Are people telling me that a movie cant make 20 million more when there is no advengers or dark knight rises to go agest? Yeah Godzilla and xmen but they are not dark knight rises or advenger type hype to take away form spidy and I belive that the amazing spider man won some fans over who where agest the reboot at first like me. I was made at the repot but saw the movie and liked it.

It isn't just the competition, it is about a possible apathetic reception to the film.

The reason why Sony is advertising the entire movie and all of its plot points at once is because they're baiting the comic book fans to go see it. They did it with Spider-Man 3 when there were Venom tv spots, and they're totally doing it for this movie. It angers and annoys me, honestly.

"Hey! We're going to show clips of the Green Goblin and clips of Gwen Stacy falling, because that will get fanboys who know about Gwen's death to go see the movie!"

GAH. I HATE this kind of stuff.

while form the reviews this movie is ether not has good has I thought it would be or this is one of those movies that cretis are just wrong about. Before all the reviews I thought the movie would make 900 million and I gave it a 50% changes to make a billion now I would say that it has only a 25% changes to make a billion and may make 800-850 million.

while I think the first one had more of a apathetic reception to the film.

I think the first one did get an apathetic respond, not because it was bad, but because of the been there, done that feeling.

yeah that one this one is doing some different things. So some people are thinking that the movie may make less then the first one's 762 million. Could captian America maybe make more? That would be a schock but captian American is at 658 million right now and is going to probly get to 700 maybe 750.

I think the bugged for this movie was said to be 250 million or something like that. How much is a movie going to cost to do sinister six? 300-350 million 400 million?

I am going this Wednesday in cinema (just to remind you this is one week from premiere) and i barely bought 2 tickets for TASM2, 3 days earlier then it's scheduled. It's cramped. I dont think this movie will go bad in box office. It's seems everyone is going to see him. Here in Croatia we dont care much for reviews, at least not general audience, it's not our thing.

Just to make some comparation between TASM and TASM2. I saw TASM also one week later from premiere and cinema was not cramped as i bought tickets without problem on the same day when movie was scheduled .
