What is the appeal of Sinister Six outside of being a massive threat to Spider-Man? Take that away and what is supposed to be the appeal?

A genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.

Sell the rights?
Expectations aside, people are acting like these property has become less viable than Thor/Hulk/GoG..etc.

Thor is on the rise I think, ASM is on a decline. But not like Hulk :o.

I doubt ASM2 beats Cap 2's Domestic gross. I imagine same with ASM3 vs Cap3.

Very true it's not a turkey franchise or nothing. Iron Man aside it's still the most profitable Solo franchise.

I guess with it possible declining in revenue with each movie there is something "wrong" with the franchise that needs fixing.

I can't imagine it going over well that if Disney ever gets the rights, that gee, another reboot has to happen due to fact that they go with a different actor.

They'll blame Sony more than Marvel.

That's not going to happen. Disney isn't getting the rights back anytime soon.

Its not franchise fatugie it is that the last 3 spider man's have been consider bad to slightly good. If they had been reviewed better they would be making more money. I don't listen to reviews when it comes to if I am going to see a movie or not but for a lot of people they do.

Sony is going to hold on to this franchise until they are certain the company is going belly-up.

If SONY goes Belly up, that would be the biggest shockwave in Hollywood.

And if it's not already, that would make Lionsgate a MAJOR studio by default.

Here's the problem with a film about criminals - it only works if the criminals are likable and are not actually bad people relative to their environment. Why does something like the Fast and Furious series work? These are a bunch of criminals but they aren't necessarily bad guys, they fall into the anti-hero category quite easily. The thing is we root for them because inspite of them being criminals they are essentially the heroes in their environments. With Sinister 6 you can't do that, you can't in one film ask the audience to cheer these people on and then in the next film ask them to boo and hiss at them, you're basically establishing two different groups of people. If they all have redeeming qualities then they are not really Spider-Man's enemies. That's a character trait that may work for one or two characters, but the entire bunch? You can't tell a story about criminals and not have them be the heroes relative to their environment.

If they all have redeeming qualities then they're not spiderman villains. I fear people are making too many statements as facts and it's skewing things.

Spiderman villains(unlike the Red Skull out right) can and have been anything from anti heroes to the simple down on their luck shmoe...even with a heart of gold in some cases. You can root for and against anyone given proper motivation. It's inversed but that 'Undisputed' films....If you took Alfred Moligna from SM2 right now, he would both fit in the S6 as well as being a functional villain for any film. Same deal with Raimi sand man, same deal with Lizard...etc
The deathstroke character on that arrow show right now.

Rules as they pertain to telling a story...hard to do that imo.

I predict around 30-40 million domestic for TASM2's 2nd weekend.

You people are crazy. There is no competition right now. Plus the movie might not be billion dollar potential. But I'm sure it gets close to 800 mil. It's a fun movie. If Transformers 2 can make over 800 mil ANY MOVIE CAN.

Financial disaster...smh.

That's an erroneous statement. And right now, TASM2 isn't tracking to make 800 mil, since it opened less than TWS and will be facing stiffer competition in the upcoming weeks. Even Neighbors will not be a pushover, given the pre-launch buzz.

According to who though?

Erroneous how? Both movies reviewed badly but were event summer blockbuster films.

And by fun I mean a good action film with great visual effects. I don't know how you guys believe it will be a financial disaster. But i'll be sure to bump this topic in three weeks.

Please do, as I'm pretty sure you'll be wrong unfortunately!

ASM3 is going to take something momentous to regain the former Spidey glory.
MCU, more superhero movies in general, franchise fatique. Spidey has a mountain to claim with the 3rd movie.

Skyfall turned around the disappointing QoS (putting it mildly I thought that movie was a PoS) so it's not impossible. But despite largely the same cast as QoS, in it's favor Skyfall had;
1) Oscar winning director (I think).
2) Arguably THE best cinematographer in the business.
3) A brilliant script writer.
4) A big gap between QoS and Skyfall (allowing the dust to settle often is a big help)
5) Less spy movies in direct competition

None of which will happen for ASM3.

Sam Mendes does indeed have a Best Director Oscar. Just wanted to confirm that for you.

Other than that I absolutely agree with you.

Took far less than that to turn the fast series around.
-from being in far worse place.

The F&F series is a totally different animal. The attracted viewers as people got curious about the series. The scripts kept getting bigger and bigger. But the big gap thing does apply. Tokyo drift was a disaster, even with a cameo from VD.

When they did F&F 4, they brought back the original cast and that was when it started tracking.

You can't compare this series to F&F, because it didn't start out as a near billion dollar franchise and then recede.

Also, do fans really want Spidey movies to be compared with TF movies or F&F? I know I really don't. And I actually enjoy those movies.

I would have thought Spider-Man would be making more money than ever before. There is two big crazes in cinema now. Young Adult films and Superhero films.

Spider-Man has the combination of both.

6) 50th anniversary celebration of the Bond franchise.

Just like the James Bond comparison a few posts above, such things are not what is being compared.

As for how fast went about it, I think it's pretty simple. They stopped being about what they were and began being about something new and exciting. In particular they layered their format with genre(heist film). The cap film is supposedly a spy thriller onto of a cbm...same deal with various other cbms. Spiderman currently doesn't really do anything like that. I think you see where I'm going with this. They also brought on board a kick ass director.

As for the time it took(though I think that's nonsense) It took them one film to go from lame to awesome as far as I'm concerned.

Also, do fans really want Spidey movies to be compared with TF movies or F&F? I know I really don't. And I actually enjoy those movies.
Compared? I said fast turned things around pretty concisely(now one of the biggest brands and hotly antip) and spiderman can as well. Not talking about comparing these films to those in terms of content or perception or what not.

True.

He was the first teen hero who was not a side-kick or part of a team from what I can remember.

(If you don't count Superboy)
