I predicted 900 million lol. Word of mouth is not good i guess

Oh, man...look like this film is gonna struggle to break even.

Good.

Hopefully that ends Sony's (mostly Avard's) reign on this character.

Fingers crossed.

This weekend will probably give us the clearest indicator as to where this thing ends up.
At this point I'll say $750 mil is enough to cause some sort of shakeup with the franchise.
$800mil will be enough for Sony to save face and go on with its planned schedule.

If the Sony-Village Roadshow deal doesn't go ahead and if the movie makes less than $750mil, Sony Pictures is probably gonna get sold off.

i'm in canada and saw this tonight, which is half price night at the theatre. usually its packed so we got there an hour early to get tickets. 6:50 showtime and no one was there. about 20 ppl. Talked to friend who saw it at another theatre and they said no one was at it either. i was shocked by how few ppl were there on the first cheap night since the movie released

Strange, it usually seems Canada eats those up. Does that mean a muted Tuesday increase?

A sequel to a mediocre, forced, unwanted reboot with poor word of mouth and a bad RT score. Nothing good there, lol.

You know things are bad when their Twitter account is retweeting pre-teen girls who post about their love for the film.

Nice to see that people are voting with their wallets. Although I have to say, this was definitely a "fool me twice, shame on me" moment. I gave Webb & Co. the benefit of the doubt since the first one was an obligatory origin story. Seems that he's fallen on his own sword this time around. If the next movie doesn't have a compelling enough premise, I sure as hell won't be falling with him.

i finally saw it a few hours ago. it suffers from poor pacing and underdeveloped villains. at least villains who are not relatable. i felt the acting in the peter parker segments was top notch including the original trilogy. its a much darker spiderman which isn't kid friendly but more appealing to adults although it is a downer. i cant see where it can go from here. the only thing that would make me interested in watching another spidey film is if there is a reboot by marvel studios or spiderman shows up in the avengers 3.

i think it has a good chance of keeping number 1 despite neighbors. it was better than people made it out to be on this forum. it was better than spider man 3 and i found the action better than tasm1. dane dehaan's harry was more convincing than james franco's.

i give it a 6.5/10.

That is not going to happen, nor should it and I didn't even like the movie.

As I said this will follow Thor 2 pretty closely, with a bit of MoS for the first two-three weeks.

Which would be kinda strange given difference in competition.
MOS second week alone was hardly 'neighbors'. Pretty darn far from it.

Exactly, MOS faced two films that opened with over 60million dollars. People keep forgetting that because it goes against the idea that the only reason the film dropped 64.6% is because of the mixed word of mouth. If TASM2 drops 62-64% against just Neighbors what does that say about it's word of mouth? I'd say very, very bad things.

91M OW isn't terrible, but it's going to need strong legs to finish well...

It isn't exactly great though is it? This should have been the first movie of the year to break $100 million.

This film had more going in it's favour than some would care to admit.

I don't think that Spidey is going to show up or be mentioned in either Avengers 2 or 3. The sequel is already stuffed with core team members and there are a bunch still waiting to be introduced. And the contracts of Garfield, Downey, Evans et al will likely prevent any sort of meaningful crossover.

But what about the Defenders?

Introduce Spidey into the MCU by referencing the character in the Netflix series, starting with Daredevil in 2015. Allow Sony to use the characters in ASM 3 as support in Spidey's battle against the Six, presumably using the same actors in the Netflix shows. Contracts and character rights could be a problem, but they should be less of an issue in a TV-Film crossover.

Benefits to Marvel
Bring Marvel's most popular character into the MCU.
Sell more Spidey tie-in merchandise.
Put the Defenders characters in a feature film without paying for it.
Sell more Defenders tie-in merchandise.
Raise interest in the Netflix series.

Benefits to Sony
Expands the Spidey-verse with heroes rather than villains.
Bolsters the third film with an MCU crossover.
Spidey and Daredevil on the big screen!

I think this has a much better chance of happening than an Avengers crossover, and makes much more sense for both studios. They just need to get Arad out of the way.

It's not great, but it's definitely not bad. OS is where Spidey rakes in the moula.

Yes , but there was a time where he raked it in here too.

But SONY still needs the domestic audience. That's where there biggest profits lie.

Alot of movies perform well overseas, but you don't always see studios rushing to make sequels.

Sony might dump the Venom and Sinister 6 project if TASM 2 does under 200M DOM.

Spidey, like batman, has had his day in the sun (and then some). Sell the rights back to Marvel and let them sit on it for the next 5 years. Or more. Save him for phase 4 when they may need him.

I'm actually rooting for this. I never want Spidey to fail, ever. But I also don't want rushed garbage either. Drop the franchising crap and get back to making quality solo films for Spider-Man. Otherwise, do us a favor and sell the rights back to Marvel. And I say this as someone that loved ASM2. I'm a conflicted bag of emoticons right now.
