Actuals for the week end are right on par with Sony's estimates.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 took in $16.80M this weekend. Domestic total now stands at $172.17M.

Can't we pick a good comic book arc?

I can't think of one that would get people interested in Spidey.

I mean with Batman, I could think of ton of ideas from a Mr Freeze origin to Court of Owls to Riddler to Hush.

With Superman, all we've had as far as villains is Lex & Zod. You can do Metallo, Parasite, Doomsday, Brainiac, Livewire, Darkseid, the Elite.

With Spidey, I got nothing. If you do Vulture, what would make people see him? What would make people see Chameleon? Raimi really used all of Spidey's best rogues with Goblin, Ock, Venom, & Sandman who's a good visually foe. Webb's been missing on these rogues in his film. What could one do that would be fresh to Spider-Man films?

Outside of a sinister six confrontation which seem to be where they were headed. Here are the primary villains the audience have yet to see. Vulture, Chameleon, Mysterio, Kraven, Shocker and a we got a half ass tease of Rhino. You are really scratching the bottom here. Everyone else is a rehash of been there done that.

They could always do Paste Pot Pete in a Bond villain type of role. Have tinkerer and the aliens as the main villains.

I think Mysterio could be great from a visually standpoint.

But still I mean, there aren't many rogues left. If they do Doc Ock, it would be hard to top Molina's. You would have to do something completely different.

I've been crunching numbers today.
After the 3rd week end (17 days) TASM2 displays a middle multiplier right on par with SM3 (1.87/1.86). If we extrapolate these numbers and predict that TASM2 will end up with a similar final multiplier (2.23), that would put the film's final numbers at around 204M domestically.
However, TASM2 had a bigger 3rd week end drop than SM3 so there is a clear risk now for the movie to fall behind SM3's progression as soon as next week end (especially with the competition ahead). A 2.2 multiplier (so just a bit under SM3's 2.23) would have it end its theatrical run barely above 200M (201,5M). Anything under 2.19 and it will fail to gross above 200M. I don't think there is a huge margin here.

They could always adapt 616 Spider-man's best story arc for TASM3. I think it'd be perfect. Why? Check out my thread in TASM Sequels forum. :)

Your absolutely right and this time Ock wouldn't take center stage like Molina was able to do with the character because he would share screen time with more villains. Either way he will constantly be compared to Molina who audiences just saw in 2004.

Yup, and that's why you don't do and plan nearly 10 films based on the same character in such a short space of time. You are forced into rehashed villains from recent films or C list villains (unless you come up with brand new ones).

I know this will sound crazy and is probably way too big budget wise but I think a movie based on the game were it was several different spider-men in alternate universes would be cool to see on film, the name escapes me right now. I know it's not a comic arc but it could be just the type of outside the box re-invigoration this franchise needs

Shattered Dimensions.
I've been saying this for weeks. This is the way to go if they want to expand their cinematic universe.

Kraven and Mysterio scratching the bottom? Couldn't disagree more, these are two of the most interesting villians. The real point is it doesn't matter who they use because Sony will fu*k them up like they did Electro, Connors, Venom, Sandman, Power Ranger GG, etc. Horrible track record. It will be sad to watch these guys scramble to try and put the shattered pieces of this franchise back together when there is pretty much zero chance of that happening. The audience has moved on and what is required to keep this character relevant will not happen anytime soon. I feel bad for Andrew Garfield, I think he's the lone bright spot left in this mess and if he's locked in long term for more train wrecks it won't help his career.

Sony doesn't get a cent from merchandise sales, Disney does.
But the rest is pretty accurate. If deadline is to be trusted the film needs 755M to break even. It won't get there.

Really? I honestly didn't know that, thanks for sharing. That means they're getting even less of the profits coming in than I originally thought.

And while GOTG, if nothing else, will certainly end up being more profitable than TASM 2. It's worldwide numbers may or may not look the same, but considering it's likely to not be over-budgeted, it'll end up being more successful.

I wish this movie was doing better but the numbers show it is not. From a visual standpoint, I think Mysterio would be pretty B.A. visually. Both the 616 and Ultimate version were pretty neat looking.

Yea Sony really ****ed up Green Goblin in Spider-Man 1 but giving him a suit of armor. It's not like another billionaire comic book character who was in a movie who wore spandex in the comics got a suit of armor in a film...

On topic though: what if they had like a World War Z or I Am Legend or Planet of the Apes type film with Carnage and symbiotes?

Am I the only one around here who is not that impressed with GOTG? Let me just add that I have not read any of the comics and that I really like all things MCU so far, except the two Thor movies.

GOTG is my #2 most anticipated CBM behind TWS, followed by X-Men and then TASM 2.

When Dafoe's face is more menacing then the actual mask they covered it with, then yeah. They had one of the most expressive faces in cinema to work with and they covered it in plastic.

That's the ticket. If Sony were smart they would adapt this. Not only could they use this as an excuse to rest Peter Parker but it really gives them limitless options. They could have several franchises going with SM 2099, Miles Morales, and various others that would give the GA something new to look forward to that they haven't seen. But sadly I remember reading an article not long ago that said they aren't even remotely interested in doing any Spider-Man besides Petey which is not only insanely stupid but just outright dumb from a business perspective.

Well trust me when I tell you once you see that film you will become a fan. If you haven't read them I would suggest picking up the DnA run, it is some awesome stuff. If your a fan of the MCU I think this movie will give you a pleasant surprise and it also continues the Thanos storyline

Can't agree with you there, GOTG has me pumped. It has a lot of great elements I'm looking forward too...it's set in space, it'll have a variety of unique characters, it continues the Thanos' story arc & the action will most likely be orgasmic.

I'm not 100% familiar with the comics but speaking as a (relatively) new fan of GOTG I'm extremely hyped for it.

It's gonna do what TASM 2 failed to do...bring audiences something different.

Couldn't agree more. The new trailer is glorious and pretty much hit every beat I wanted from it.

The great thing about it is Gunn has said himself that you don't have to know a darn thing about the GotG from the comics. This film is introducing the Cosmic MCU and will lead to so many awesome things!

And I still bet when all is said and done, even with the heavy VFX for GotG, it will end up costing less than TASM2 which is hilarious to me. One is a space opera/epic and the other is set in NYC haha
