I know sony and arad cant control themselves but with a word of hope, With them delaying the movie they should at least ignore GOTG's financial success and just for the love of god focus one making the franchise great story wise.

I'm thinking the same thing but lots of people are saying it's an unknown property for the GA, it's too out there, etc. etc. Going into the summer most predicted it would be towards the bottom of the list gross wise in terms of CBMs this year. That's why I think it would be funny if it blows up, Sony execs will lose their minds if an unknown beats them. I think it will be funny to watch

I'm expecting GotG to be a big success but I'm not expecting it to be as big as the Avengers. Nowhere near it.

As long as word of mouth is good, I think it will do well as there isn't anything else like it this summer. But it won't do Avengers or even Cap 2 numbers.

I'm actually thinking it will be upwards of $800m WW but that's just my wishful thinking

Actually I have a pretty good sixth sense about what kind of stuff blows up with the GA. I have it with music and really anything pop culture wise, I'm usually just able to tell. I know realistically GotG will probably make around $400m-$600m WW and anything in that range I'm sure Marvel will consider a success but something just tells me it's gonna be upwards in the $800m WW range. Even though I am an admitted MCU fanboy I'm just going with my gut. As long as it doesn't flop I'll be happy

Yep, only three movies will make 800+ this year and Guardians is not one of them. Right now people shouldn't think about more than 450m.

Ya know, I have to say I'm kinda surprised by how long some movies last in theaters. Looking at Box Office Mojo, Frozen was on the list as having made 8k this weekend. I know it is not a lot but CATWS made like 197k. Makes me realize that some of these films keep grossing a lot longer than I thought they did. I wonder if it is predominately smaller theaters/dollar(or budget) theaters that are just getting them now.

Has to be budget theaters. Frozen has been on DVD for at least a month I think and The Lego Movie just got released on DVD either this week or last week. Both are still getting love at the BO but kids movie tend to have crazy legs.

GOTG should do Thor 1 numbers at least. But given the MCU is well embedded within the collective consciousness of the GP, a bit more than Thor 1 may be a safe call.

I say a WW finish of 500-600m would be an outstanding gross for such an unconventional CBM.

EDIT: doubtful this film will match ASM2's total BO. Maybe domestically...maybe.

It looks like it's within 500k and depending on the actuals, it'll probably won't hit 200 for at least another week especially if it's only pulling in around 60k a day.

August movies are not really known to touch $300 million. There's only been 4-5 that's been over $200 over the past 20 something years.

That's not to say that it couldn't happen but I think if GotG reaches $200 domestically and $400 internationally, that'd be pretty good.
