Yeah... they own Spidey now in everything but the movies. You can bet they are eyeing the rights seriously.
Sony is just in desperation mode now. And I don't think a Sinister Six or Venom movie is the answer to their prayers.
Sinister Six and Venom movies seem like a huge risk and mistake for this studio.
Disney are idiots. They OWN the Spidey merchandising rights, putting Spidey in the Avengers would give their movie a boost and they'll sell more Spidey toys. Sure, Sony benefit from that boost but so what?
Disney makes money no matter what. That is why they don't need to help any other studio.Disney are idiots. They OWN the Spidey merchandising rights, putting Spidey in the Avengers would give their movie a boost and they'll sell more Spidey toys. Sure, Sony benefit from that boost but so what?
What they are doing makes no sense. They should Bond Spider-Man. Attempt to make a quality film every three years. Instead they seem to be running it into the ground, like they are trying to cash in.the major problem with sony is that i think they feel trapped with Spider-man being their only source of super hero product and because of that they have nothing to back it up with so all the weight is on that 1 character spider-man, they don't have the X-Men characters to throw back and forth and look for the next big character, they don't have the Avengers characters the play with
so i can understand why Sony would wanna expand the universe the best way they can

At this point it would not surprise me if they end up selling Spidey back to Marvel for a nice chunk of change in the next 10 years.
These arguments never make sense, just like the Fantastic Four ones. Marvel would simply market it as "Spider-Man done right" by the studio that brought you Iron Man, Cap and The Avengers, and add him to the Avengers. If Marvel recieved the rights back for Spidey tomorrow I doubt you'd see a Spidey movie for a decade because a 2nd reboot in a decade will kill any love for the movie character of Spidey. Although I think a live action TV series of Spidey could work.
Sony won't give up the rights to spider-man back to marvel, TASM2 will probably make more money then most movies, it may even make more then CA:TWS and if that happens we shall get TASM3 (no doubt about it either way) in 2016 and say if that fails sony would be more likely to reboot again then actually give the rights back
The Other Woman is also prospering in Australia, where it opened last weekend opposite The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The female comedy debuted to $4.2 million for the weekend, compared to $5.2 million for Spider-Man 2, but pulled ahead of the superhero tentpole on Wednesday. It came in No. 1 Thursday and Friday as well.

A bitter disappointment for Sony if this movie makes less than ASM1. Not a disaster but changes will be made if that happens. Personally I don't see this movie making a dime less than 800 mil regardless of the critical response or the so so wom.
edit: some of those overseas numbers are a bit disturbing. is it possible that TWS sucked some of the oxygen out of certain markets?
Even if it makes $700 its still a big money maker (cash cow) esp if you want to say how reviews are terrible and how thats gonna effect it, its just wouldn't add up to how much money sony put into it
When you compare it to Thor: the dark world which came off the Avengers and made $644,783,140
This movie could make a paltry $400 million worldwide and we would still see The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Sony NEEDS Spider-Man and sadly, I feel they will run him into the ground.
