just pure hate towards this film, but im not going to let that group get to me. tickets have only been available for what like 2 days now? i aint worryin bout nothin

A lot of people are loving the idea of it doing bad it seems in twitter, I personally don't think there is anything to worry about, casual audiences will see it because its spider-man and kids will see it because its spider-man

I will be stunned if it underperforms, the trailers have been good, reactions have been good so far

If Sony really is proud of this movie (like John Campea of AMC Movie News has said), I have no worries.

yeah, its been really intense latly FN. but the crowd in my theater seemed to like the trailer, and plus there was a huge pop out poster for TASM 2 at my AMC theater so i think its going to do great.

right? its crazy. unless they are talking about over seas revenue then they are just talking. it cant be over seas numbers though because thats where spider man does best

Tracking isn't necessarily connected to ticket sales. Prior to films being released, studios track the general audience's awareness/desire to see the movie in question through the multitude of means that they have at their disposal. I'm guessing this would include, but not be limited to, surveys of selected demographics and test screenings.

Through this, they can get a pretty solid sense of how anticipated the movie is and how many buts they're gonna have in theater seats come opening weekend.

To be honest I don't entirely disbelieve what McWheeny is saying on this one. The amount of promotional material Sony is pushing out suggests that they're really trying to get people more engaged and interested in this movie...but I honestly think it all hinges on the buzz that it gets from the early overseas releases (something that I think Sony is banking on). If the movie delivers, then I don't see it having any problem outperforming ASM1 and overcoming initially poor tracking numbers.
