Great. Raimi bashing for people who like these movies to feel better about themsevles. Awesome, and way to stay classy Spidey faithful

Unfortunately its always the way when something new comes out to bash to old ones and celebrate the new, even though in this case the old were better movies that made more money and got better critical receptions.

These news movies have been okay, but they havent reached the greatness of SM2 or even SM1, not by a long shot.

I lived in NY during the Raimi era. PLENTY laughed during those moments in his movies at my theaters. Judging movies as you're watching them in a crowd is bad for REAL evaluation. You're lost in your own space and seeing what you want to see.

It's just my opinion, I didn't laugh at all at Raimi's ham. It just felt awkward, Marc's flowed better, IMO.

"The power of the sun in the palm of my hands, nothing will stand in our way... NOTHING!" I remember making this face...

Watch some footage of Giamatti or Webb talking about the Rhino just after they finished filming the scene. They flat out said it was hammy and he had a ton of fun with it. Why criticize it for being hammy when it was intentional?

Way to dodge the question, but ok.

More cheesy than the Kafka scene?

i thought kafka was charming in a cartoony sorta way, i grew up with the animated series and the villains often were over the top so it reminded me of that, he wasn't on screen long and i took it as abit of fun

the raindrops scene though... toby just annoyed me from his overly happy look, he then falls over and gets up and carrys on walking glowing with
Happiness and the freeze frame end, you can see where the street dance from SM3 grew from now, you guys are to blame for that

kafka scene was not that bad, in fact it was solid, nothing wrong with it when i watched it after I heard pure bashing at the same scene in this very same forum

Some of us were never fully sold on those films. Its called having an opinion. Personally for me my biggest gripe with them is they're all the same movie, the plot points are the same in each one. They were also so corny that they've not aged well.

Indeed. Every film should be judged on its own merits. We don't need to tear down the past to justify the future.

Agreed. you should always judge the film in front of you. Not look backward in order to justify anything.

100% agreed. Webb's films are not ALL bad, but boy do they make some serious mistakes. I don't see TASM3 being any better, either. More of the same likely to come.

On that note, time for me to go to work...so, I'm out for the next few hours!

Electro was NOT a short burst. Nor was the Rhino scene short. That is an awful lot of cheese.

Once again, I think this is a case of the buzzword has been etched in people's minds for one series, but the love they want to experience for the new ones makes them blind to the hypocrisy of the statement itself. Webb is guilty of cheese just like Raimi. But, new spidey fans want to like Webb's movies. So they ignore it, despite the fact it is the same thing.

I honestly don't like Webb's Max Dillon either. Kafka I thought was terrible as well. But I'm ok with Aleksei, because the character is just supposed to be loud and bombastic.

So yes, while Webb's Movie has cheese, there's still a big difference between Raimi's and Webb's Movies. While Webb sadly has those few cheesy characters, there's no denying that cheese was practically part of the Raimi Movie's DNA, with its music montages, supporting characters, and side characters that didn't further the plot along and existed just to deliver the cheese.

I don't consider either 'guilty' because I enjoy both director's form of humour and light heartedness. I suppose that's humour, though. Some people will laugh at something, and others won't. It's subjective.

Guys we are all Spider-Man fans here. There's no way you can make a Spider-Man movie without cheesy and eye rolling moments. The character himself is a flat out troll. However you can't accuse the Raimi flicks of being cheesy and campy and defend the Webb films. Anyone else remember the crane scene in TASM? Kafka scene? I loved TASM2 but imo, SM2 is where these Spider-Man films peaked. There's reason why it has the same RT rating as TDK. IMo the CBMs that surpassed SM2 are TDK and Cap 2.

I dont either, I think this movie was the one that should have achieved greatness. 3rd movies are notoriously difficult to get right and if Webb couldnt get the 1st and 2nd movies totally focused and right I dont think he will do it with the 3rd, personally speaking of course, I would love to be wrong though and for TASM3 to be great.

I am curious then what face did you make at:

"Its ma birfday, lets light up dese candles."

There's nothing wrong with cheesy herioc moments but the Raimi films were almost straight up comedies at times. ASM 2's cheesyness for me was all with Electro, the comedic music for the character before he turned then when he did he became a computer graphic spouting cheesy dialogue.

maybe TASM2 did indeed try and have abit of everything to please everyone and maybe that was the mistake, maybe the plend just didn't work as well as they thought, to have cheesy and grounded together, or maybe they just didn't balance it out well

as for the raimi films DNA as i said its where the peter street dance came from that people hated, the raindrops one from SM2 was received well (oddly) so i suppose raimi thought the cocky peter street walking would do just as well, bit of cheesy fun

Defending your movie by tearing down old ones doesn't make your argument credible. It just makes people seem petty or defensive.

Also, gotta love the hipster trend "I never liked these movies..." that seem obligatory to post anymore. It's annoying.

If Sony had embraced their previous Spider-Man success, like sports franchises do, the fans would follow suit. I've never seen the Lakers or Yankees distance themselves from their old championship teams.

Max Dillon, Kafka, Paul Giamatti's entire performance etc are cheesier than anything done in any other Spidey movie. Dillon, Kafka and Aleksi were like something straight out of a Joel Schumacher Batman movie.

So Raimi doing the raindrops wasn't a bit of fun to show how good Peter's life had become? It wasn't even that long as well. Having rewatched TASM2, I understood where the Batman and Robin criticism came from, I went and rewatched B&R last night to try and see what the fuss was all about. Oh boy, I can see it now. That Max scene and the Kafka scene looked like they were pulled right out of B&R.

he raindrops scene though... toby just annoyed me from his overly happy look, he then falls over and gets up and carrys on walking glowing with

The montage is not even comperable with the dance number in SM3. The point is, it's fine to have preference but don't put down the other films to justify how good the new films are. Raimi is a campy director, that's his style. Worked up until SM3 where it seemed like he was saying **** you to Sony.

I thought the scene was funny but it was soooo cheesy and I can honestly see where the B&R comparisons come from. There's a character in that movie that reminded me of Kafka, that guy who worked with Poison Ivy before she turned evil.:oldrazz:

Cheesy heroic moments are fine aslong as they aren't overdone. But characters should feel more real. Characters like Green Goblin (both Raimi's and Webbs), Doc Ock, Eddie Brock, Electro, should not be like caricatures of real people, they should be like real people.

Haven't you heard? SM3 happened and Raimi took his cast and walked away.

Sorry that I didn't like the hammy scenes in Raimi's trilogy but liked the ones in Webb's. :whatever:

So that line got to you, but not "It's my birthday. Time to blow out the candles!" Or just Dillion just straight up saying "I'm Electro!" Or the cliche "Who I formely was is dead now!". Sounds like a pretty huge double standard to me, but why am I not surprised?

The same people who accuse others of being biased with the Raimi movies are in turn biased by the Webb ones. I guarantee you as such. Though I have noticed that Webb fanboys seem much more deluded than Raimi ones, maybe because the first two Raimi movies were legitimently well made.

Didn't they try to make the Lizard feel like a real person? A few people liked that. Sometimes, embracing the comic bookikynes of those characters works for the best. It goes down to how well it is executed.

See I don't mind the cheesiness because it's Spider-Man, I just don't like the double standards I tend to see here a lot.

Right now i think sony have the perfect cast for this spider-man franchise, andrew garfield is extremely talented, he loves the role and and many feel he is perfect for the role, and Sally Field is great as aunt may and i feel they finally got the peter and aunt may relationship right which raimi never really looked into

Sony need to back off abit and get better writers
