While I most definitely agree that this email is fake, I could believe Andrew staying on board being part of the deal.

Despite how others at Sony might feel about him, Amy Pascal is very high on Andrew, and would likely propose something of the sort.

I would only take Andrew if Marvel has full control over the direction he goes in.

One reason I could see him staying is to make things less confusing for the GA. It's one of the things that worries me about doing a reboot in such a short period of time, even though I want Marvel to have the rights.

I would go see AOU 10 times, and most of them just for this credits scene.
You're a gentlemen and a scholar.

We shall watch it together and rejoice that Avi Arad is no longer involved with Spidey.

If Sony suggested to Marvel that deal in the leak, then Marvel should tell Sony to F off.You can tell those are all ideas from Avi Arad.

Da7e just said made a comment on the email.

Fake like a MF.

Exactly....if Marvel agree to deal, I think they would want some consistency in the role, at the very least, up until the end of their phase 3, moving into phase 4, when it is highly suspected, Marvel would be recasting roles for its original actors/actress. That would be the time to completely reboot Spidey...year 2021 forward.

Just tell Avi he'll get to play Venom. There. The deal will be signed and over with by the end of the day.

That's one of the theories I had in mind when thinking about all of this.

I think that makes the most sense, personally. It's only easy for people like you and I who know the ins and outs of what's going on, but it's not the same for people who only pay the slightest bit of attention to Spidey when his films come out.

In my opinion, there should be at least five years in between a character change, much the way it was with SM3 and TASM1. It's only been a little more than two years, at the moment, and it could be something that inadvertently hurts the brand.

Are you guys implying that Garfield should stay? because that's not gonna happen.

They're not implying it, they're pretty clearly saying it.

Nothing wrong with that, it's a good idea.

I really don't know what to tell you.

I would respond with a lot of reasons for you to not worry about the outcome of the series, but that would defeat the purpose of my initial post. Plus, I am sure you have heard it all by now, and you must genuinely care for the current series if you're still in favor of it this far into the speculation.

All I can say is, I hope you find a way to enjoy Spidey even if he ends up in the MCU. It would be a shame for you to spoil the interest in your favorite superhero because of the business side of things. Marvel fan or not, I wouldn't want somebody to lose faith in Spidey in general.

A lot of Raimi fans took a leap of faith when the reboot occurred. The difference, I suppose, lies in the fact that the OT at least had a form of partial closure. Still, if the deal does indeed go through, I hope you find a way to take a leap of faith and enjoy the character as well.
Well I can really appreciate this post, thanks for that. I'm certainly not ruling anything out, I mean... I was one of those fans of the Raimi trilogy who didn't like the idea of a reboot and you see how that turned out for me and how much I ended up loving it.

It's just gonna be hard to try not to be bitter about it though as I don't think I've ever been more invested in a movie series as I've become with TASM thus far. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see see what happens though, everything's still up in the air.

If they keep Garfield he comes with all the baggage of TASM... I don't know if Marvel wants to be associated with that. It's not like you can just pretend it didn't happen, unless you reboot. That's the only way to get a clean slate.

I would advise anyone who believes this new "leak" to beware of people selling Brooklyn Bridges.

If Sony could retain Judi Dench for "M", in a brand new Bond continuity, Sony and Marvel together can find a way to keep Andrew in a new continuity and make it work.

Not exactly... that would be more like Marvel starting over, but keeping J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.

Or even Sally Field for the odd Aunt May cameo. Garfield is the ''face'' of TASM series and therefore, he's be the first to go in order to remove the ''stench''... if you like.

I wouldn't mind Andrew staying as long as they established either a soft or total reboot otherwise. I can imagine Sony pushing for him to stay, but equally blaming him rather than themselves.

He's too old for the reboot if they're really looking at a teenage Spider-Man. Just pull a Chris Evans/Ray Stevenson/Patton Oswalt/ etc. and give him a new character in the MCU.
