I think the only two points of absolute logic are:

1) Sony has made less and less money with each Spider-man movie and their company has been in trouble for a while, compounded exponentially by the hacks. The best way to make cash hand over fist with little risk is to entertain a deal with Marvel. They need this.

and

2) Spider-man is a billion dollar IP and they would be fools to lose/sell it.

Therein lies the rub as these two points of logic are seemingly in direct contradiction. And I think that's why we get all the rumors and hearsay. Because it's the truth. Sony, in typical Sony fashion, want to have their cake and eat it too.

I won't believe anything until either Marvel announces a deal or Sony announces the SINISTER SIX cast. The rest is us just banging our heads against a wall. The buzz has warn off and now it just hurts.

But as has been noted, the returns from Spidey's cinematic endeavours are slipping. If sh** films keep getting made in his name so frequently, he won't be worth what he is now.

As much as I'd still like a Felicity Jones-led Black Cat spinoff, I think this is the best way to go for now. Focus everything on making a great third movie before they try to do anything else.

I think the truth is that there is a lot of infighting with Sony with their executives in different camps on the issue. Some want a deal. Some (ex. Arad) want to continue with TASM3 and an expanded universe. Some want no deal, but want to reboot. Add in all the other problems and a possible shakeup in management that could easily occur this year. That's why these reports contradict each other. Sony is divided. We don't know what is happening because Sony doesn't know.

Yeah, me too. There needs to be an official announcement or something happens that makes it clear what direction they are going in. Until then we are all just guessing.

Cosmic Book News had an "exclusive" about Cranston being Luthor, so they're about as reliable as LR at this point. Just saying.

I would love to see a Black Cat movie. I am a huge fan of Black Cat, and i would totally want to see her and Spider-Man in the same film and see their amazing relationship. I love how dangerous and sexy she is, and how she toys with Spider-Man and is obsessed with him. I would totally pay money to see that!!

agreed, although Black Cat would be established in the "Black Cat" movie. I do think that Sinister Six right now is too soon. We still need to set up the villains and cramming them all in one movie is bogus. They need to be introduced in each TASM film, and then they would come together in SINISTER SIX wayyy down the road.
