Sony is going to continue working on the Sinister Six film (or TASM3 I guess) until they know for certain if the Marvel deal will go through.

Sony wasn't 100% certain on Spider-Man 4, and they went through about 4 drafts according to Raimi. While working on that movie, they were also planning a sneaky reboot as a back-up. SM4 was cancelled and they ended up going with the reboot instead.

Right now Sony needs to keep working on S6 "just in case." Doesn't mean it will happen though, even if the Marvel deal does not work out.

Meh, at least it keeps 'em busy. :funny:

Man, I really am torn on this issue.

I'm one of the few who loved TASM2, it's not perfect but it's not anywhere near as bad as people exaggerate it to be. So obviously I'd like to see series continue. But with the talks of Sinister Six possibly being a soft reboot, and Andrew Garfield being replaced, I just don't think I have any interest in seeing TASM series continue without Garfield.

I know it would be in the franchise's best Interest for Sony to sign a deal with Marvel. But honestly I don't wanna lose the continuity that's been established here, I don't think its messed up beyond repair, and I don't wanna lose Garfield.

But if Sony is gonna reboot, then they need to do it with Marvel. Reboot wise that's the only way it makes sense.

You basically spoke for me, haha.

That's exactly how I've felt over these past couple months.

If we get a TASM3 directed by marc webb and andrew garfield as spidey with goddard as writer and sony fires Avi, imma be this:

Hmm, I guess it's not messed up "beyond repair," but the damage is already done. The continuity/canon of the TASM series has too much baggage:

1. Harry was the first goblin in the series and is responsible for killing Gwen
2. Norman Osborn, THE Green Goblin, dies after 3 minutes of screentime.
3. Uncle Ben's death played a very small role in giving Spider-man his motivation.
4. Spider-Man's origin was sloppy and Peter Parker being "the chosen one" takes a lot away from the character being relatable
5. Oscorp is the center of the universe and is just creating a ton of villains for Spider-Man to fight. Doc Ock, Vulture, Rhino, Venom, and so on are all just Oscorp creations.

There's more to add but you get the idea. They could try their best to put together a good movie, but there is so much going against it that I find that to be unlikely.

But if Sony is gonna reboot, then they need to do it with Marvel. Reboot wise that's the only way it makes sense.

I agree. I don't want the to continue the TASM films, but I don't want Sony to reboot by themselves either. A reboot with Marvel seems like the best option right now.

Marc Webb needs to be tossed as well. Get a director who is more experienced and actually knows how to handle a big project like Spider-Man.

Avi being fired is enough to warrant that reaction.

I would probably do the same.

Agreed.

Even though most of the blame goes on Avi, Marc also made some huge mistakes with these last two films.

Very well said, I agree on almost all points. :applaud

Disagree, I really hope Marc Webb sticks around. Despite Sony's meddling, he's done great so far.

I think Marc did the best he could with the script and is able to get some good emotion out of his actors. He was more suited for TASM1 which was originally intended to be a "low budget indie" style superhero film. But when it comes to the superhero elements, the villains, the action, etc, he's pretty bad at it. This guy has more experience with music videos and I think a lot of the strange music choices in TASM2 are to blame on him. I would say that Avi Arad and Sony are to blame for the overall issues with the franchise and the pressure to do some universe building, but Webb is just too inexperienced (probably why they hired him in the first place).

Seriously, what studio hires a director with only ONE film under his belt to take charge of their only tentpole franchise? I suppose they wanted someone they could boss around and pay a smaller salary.

One thing is for certain: Sony needs to avoid hiring the Transformers 2 writers for their Spider-Man movies.

They hired him because his sole movie was a Best Picture nominee. Also because he couldnt argue when they gave him a demand.... which was their issue with Raimi.

I'll admit, I think (500) Days of Summer is a very good movie. But that's so far off from Spider-Man and I don't think that he should be anyone's first choice. I respect Raimi from walking away from Sony with SM4.

Those two are great writers..... when they have great directors to match, like Abrams.

However, they ( more often than not) choose to team with crappy directors like Michael Bay, and crap producers like Avi Arad.

That said..... the ASM2 was great. Andrew said so. But of course, Avi and Co. mutilated anything good about it, over the course of the production.

It needs to be better than TASM1 though. It needs to be on par with Spider-Man 1 & 2 at least.

The only good movies that they wrote were directed by Abrams. From what I understand, Abrams gets a lot of creative control and writes the script with Orci and Kurtzman.

TASM2 was great because Andrew said so? The thing was probably a mess from the start.

SevenWebHeads' new video on the Sinister Six tweets, brings up some interesting points about Sony's past of deleting info.

You don't think it could be considered a coincidence? The guy probably got bombarded with tweets and emails and didn't want it blowing up in his face if he got in trouble. Him or whoever it was deleting the account doesn't mean anything.

I know, I already said earlier in the thread that he probably didn't want the attention it gave him. I was just saying it's interesting, is all, that Sony's done so before.

Hello everyone, I would like to say that I agree completely with Spider Sonic and Spider Ock. Also, it has been reported that it will snow tonight, So my friend Spider-Man over here dressed in the proper winter attire so he would be warm, Spider-Man urges you to do the same.
