Those are my feelings exactly about the movie. On paper it would have been the greatest Spidey film ever. It was just dragged down by the mishandled parents plot, questionable treatment of Electro and Rhino, and the rushing of Harry's arc.

I like to think of the villains as sidies to the main plot. Paul Giamatti himself admitted that his character would be very corny and comic booky. I think Webb incorporated these comic booky interpretations of these villains for the chief purpose of expediting their descent into bat**** maniacs.

However, I still do like Electro's motivation but I don't get a menacing vibe from him. I almost felt bad for him in the movie. As for Harry, he's a whole 'nother story. Those final few moments at the clock tower had my heart thumping like crazy. And I can see why they did not want a brutal fight to the death between Harry and Peter after Gwen's death. They might not have wanted to undermine the whole idea of the SS6 and if they included that fight scene, it would just feel like the SS6 is being led by a loser who already got his snot kicked by Spidey.

ASM2 is my favourite CBM of all time. Had to come out to its defense sooner or later ;).

Brilliant post by Spider-Ock and sums up my opinion of ASM2 perfectly.

With that said, I don't need to see a ASM3 because the emotional heart of the movie is gone now that Gwen has been killed off.

Thank you! :)

Tell that to WB and suicide squad

The audience won't know who any of them are which is why they are getting certain actors in it

Suicide Squad strikes me more of a Thunderbolts kind of set up than anything similar to Sinister Six. Though Sony's proposed plans do seem to take that route as well via a 'Bigger Jaws' scenario than anything actually resembling what the S6 were in the comics.

Also there have been rumours of including other known characters outside of Joker and Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie. Perhaps that is partly in anticipation that most of their characters are unknown to the general public?

Okay, can we all please stop acting like audience awareness is still a major concern after Guardians of the Galaxy?

Anyway, Sinister 6 and Suicide Squad would be two very different films. S6 would be like Oceans 11 with powers, while Suicide Squad would be The Dirty Dozen with powers. I stand by my stance that the 6 could make for a great, successful film, but as long as the same people at Sont are in charge, I have no faith in them leaving well enough alone.

I think GotG was more a marvel thing though

"From the studio that brought you avengers" is an awesome tagline to have

It may, it may not be. However, I was supposing that it might be a concern for WB and factor into their thinking when introducing well known characters into Suicide Squad in re-writes (if they are).

We say that now but sony reboots by themselves again most will be annoyed

That's because it would show massive incompetence on their part, and prove they shouldn't be handling the franchsie anymore. At least, not in a creative capacity.

Just the idea alone of Dane DeHaan being Venom is genius to me, lol.

Bravo, WallCrawler.

Dane Dehaan would be a good acting choice for Venom, but he would REALLY need to bulk up like crazy to be exceptional in the role.

I don't know I always held an inward hope of TASM2 being better relieved as time rolls by. The whole criticism of 'world building' should be applied to MCU films too but the critics overlook it. Meanwhile, the minuscule amount of world building ASM2 had was a total of 2 minutes. In itself, it's a pretty complete film.

The criticisms of the villain aside, the movie is anchored by a lot of powerful performances. Andrew, to me, acted out the perfect rendition of my favourite CBM character. Emma Stone was marvellous as Gwen Stacy. What everyone should realize is that the movie was never about the villains. It wasn't about the action. At its heart, the movie revolved around the tragedy of Peter and Gwen's relationship. Even the parents storyline builds off from it. After the subway scene, Peter does realize that the most important person in his life is Gwen, and that he is willing to anything for her. The bridge scene really drives that point home.

And the ending? It's one of the most emotional and heartbreaking third acts I have ever seen. The raw emotional impact of it all hits you in the gut like a punch.

Apart from Peter and Gwen, the film really drives home the fact that Spidey never gives up. In spite of facing enormous sacrifices and never-ending difficulties, Peter Parker always always rises up to the challenge.

Emotional and heartbreaking? Seeing Gwen dies, Peter mourn for like 5 minutes, Harry for some reason plotting against Peter even though Peter is soulless and hasn't done anything since Gwen's death and quit being Spidey, had Rhino attack something, Peter come back as Spidey, and end film.

Did I get everything?

this has been a problem with you for a while dude. Learn to accept everybody's opinions. It is the perfect ending for me. If it isn't for you, then I can respect your opinion. All I ask is for you to respect mine. Capiche?

Now, if I say Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sucks, you have every right to feel the opposite way. Similarly, when I say that TASM2 is a near-perfect film for me, you have every right to feel the opposite. But don't try to enforce your opinions on other people. Got it? :)

No it hasn't. That's why I don't post that much anymore. People just cannot seem to handle individual opinions around here.

But both asm2 and dawn of the apes are great but dawn Is better lol. Dawn is my favorite movie of last year easily and asm2 Is probly my second favorite.

I think "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" should end with Peter holding his mask. BUT, I liked that mini-fight with Rhino.

That's what's most unfortunate about this series.

It had nothing else going for it that would warrant people saying, "Man, we really need a sequel to see what happens next."

i like the ending of TASM2 EVEN if it doesn´t make sense, the emotional backing is there, i mean he came back as Spider-man even if he failed to save a loved one again, the montage of months passing by while he mourns Gwen symbolizing he hasn´t moved on and has no idea what to do with his life, after his Aunt May suggested to move on and listening to Gwen´s speech again (yeah, i think he listens to that often) he decided to come back.
The Rhino part even with all the plot points and the ridiculus fact that Rhino waited for Spider-man to talk to the kid (seriously what the hell with that) the music makes it up for me...He came back and finally moved on.

personally i would´ve liked Peter to stay put because he felt that he has failed Gwen, the Sinister six rising because Spider-man isn´t arround and Harry forming them to lure Peter out for revenge. then in the third movie the sinister six go attack Peter at his home and gravely injures Aunt May while he wasn´t home, then he goes visit Stacy´s grave and Uncle Ben´s grave as he remembers what Captain stacy said and finally what Uncle Ben said to him as he finally decides to come back as Spider-man to face them...BOOM!

I think TASM2 in itself was a complete enough film. If this were a tv show being cancelled, the fans wouldn't make such a huge outcry because the outcome of the tv show has mostly been shown. Similarly, I am ok with anything Spidey-related at the moment. If we get an ASM3, then great. And if Marvel gets the rights, that's great too.

But just give us some damn news already.

You're exactly right, and it's a shame. I had an actual interest in seeing more at the end of TASM1 because I liked the world that had been established. After TASM2 I just don't care anymore.

The death of Gwen was so poorly handled.

I'd rather see no new Spider-Man films than more bad ones. If the deal with Marvel goes through then Spider-Man could potentially be one of the most beloved franchises again. I want people to look at Spider-Man the way they look at Iron Man, the Avengers, or even Guardians of the Galaxy.

As did I.

I was thoroughly interested in the possibility of going in an entirely new direction, but it all crumbled after TASM2.

We know he comes back and we know he's going to fight the S6 - why end the movie with the audience knowing what happens next? After TASM2, they were basically preparing to focus on the weakest part of their films: the villains.

Honestly it's more a case of franchise fatigue than anything else. Spidey is in his own little universe and he cannot interact with any of his fellow superheroes. Look at X-Men and the MCU. All of superheroes in those movies are party to a shared universe and that creates an appeal for them. Even I Sony produces a 'quality' Spidey flick, it won't be that successful because Spidey has essentially become a lone wolf. I would honestly prefer it like that but the G.A. wants something more....

I don't think it's necessarily franchise fatigue, to be honest.

Just because a shared universe is succeeding, it doesn't mean that's the only way to make a successful film. That's exactly the mindset Sony had that got the company tangled in this position in the first place. After all, people still made it out to see TASM1. If they had focused on a congruent story, didn't rush characters/shoehorn villains, I think TASM1 left us with a foundation that could easily expand into 2-3 sequels.

Instead, it felt like they took the idea of 2-3 movies and stuffed it all in TASM2.
