If I were to make a poll of who had better on screen chemistry: Dunst and Maguire, or Stone and Garfield, the dunst and Maguire selection would most likely win. Even though they had no chemistry whatsoever.

People hate the ASM films because it's popular to hate the ASM films. Again, that isn't the only reason people hate them, but it's a big one.

Yeah the fact that Spider-Man 2 wins over TASM1 and TASM2 in terms of webslinging moments just shows how much people hate this franchise.

I don't hate the ASM films.

But I don't put them among the upper tier CBMs.

Very true. I'm not counting out the fact that it could just be a personal preference for SM2's webslinging, but again, it just smacks of TASM hate.

I'm all about respecting opinions, but these recent poll results just give off a vibe of stubbornness and elitism. I may be wrong

That's how I see it too. Like "Haha, you little kiddies blindly love these crappy new films, us grown-ups have the real Spider-Man".

That's EXACTLY how I feel. I mean, how can you NOT enjoy the swinging scenes in the TASM films?? I enjoy the swinging scenes of both series, because I get to see my favorite hero do the thing he does best and looks best doing. I just feel the TASM films do a better job of that because i find them more entertaining. I at least give credit where it's due.
This is all based on the speculation of the incentive behind the poll results, I'm just saying my thoughts of course.

Exactly. I will say that the swinging scenes in Raimi's films look spectacular despite being a decade old. But in terms of overall polish and detail, they don't hold a candle to Webb's IMO.

Just go look at the poll results, it's pretty telling. Almost every vote for SM-2 are from the people who hate everything about TASM.

I feel they thought that we thought that we could "win" with this new poll due to the brilliance of the swinging in the Webb films, so their egos became huge since they've brainwashed themselves into thinking that literally everything about the Webb films are terrible and that Raimi is superior in every way. I may be going out on a limb by saying this here, but if my deductions are correct then they must actually like some moments of the Webb films but their pride over their own opinion of Raimi being better must always be the majority opinion sets in and they lie to themselves.

I'm not speaking for everyone, I'm just stating some thoughts i just came up with due to the case of the recent poll results. This is just mere speculation of course and I maybe becoming a little too eccentric in my thoughts here since I've been watching the anime Death Note quite frequently recently and it has inspired me a little lol
I am not to judge anyone

So, I guess that the Raimi films are the "hipster" ones, not Webb's? Because part of the hipster stereotype is feeling superior due to your own taste in movies/music/literature/spaghetti sauce/whatever.

I don't like to ponder on "stereotypes" since they are a waste of time and get us nowhere.

Very true. But there is this sense that the Raimi fans that hate the Webb films (not all Raimi fans hate the Webb films, by the way), feel superior in doing so.

I feel superior in general but never for liking a bunch of movies. I respect that many people enjoy the Sony/Webb films, I don't believe anybody is dumber than I am for enjoying the films. That would be a supremely *****ey thing to think.

I hate how people complain about the clothes that Peter wears in TASM2. They say it isn't nerdy and they are too stylish and expensive. But Peter in the comics would always wear nice and stylish clothes for the 1960s era, he always looked more handsome than anybody else. Heck, Peter even bought himself a cool motor bike and drove hot Mary Jane around in it. I hate how people confuse the type of nerd Peter is. He isn't supposed to be a loser who is constantly being picked on or just acts like a shy dweeb. Peter is a handsome young individual who tries his best to appear nice with the money and time that he has. He stands up for himself. He's a charismatic nerd. I have a friend who is like a genius, just like Peter almost. He fixes xbox's and makes nerd guns shoot 20x harder than they're supposed to, he's a genius with computers, and he got a 2300 on his SATs. And my friend is always wearing nice clothes like pea oats with jeans and converse shoes etc, and he's not rich. Peacoats aren't all expensive. The one Peter wears I found for only 60 bucks. In peters case, Gwen probably bought it for him. One thing I will say against TASM2 Peter is the hair. It looks wayyyyyy too perfect at times in the film.

Point is, Peter is a nerd, but not a loser-nerd. There's a difference.

Yeah. When you hear the "true fan" crap, as well as other examples of fans acting in elitist fashion.

I would never say I'm a "true fan" for preferring Garfield to Maguire, or Stone to Dunst. That's a really crappy thing to say to other fans.

Plus, they adapted him into the modern era. Peter Parker totally fits into the modern nerd crowd. I never really regarded him as a nerd in the comics, save for the first couple of issues. He always just struck me as a normal handsome guy with money issues who loved and was a complete whizz at science

Let's not act like The Amazing Spider-Man side are all innocent angels.

The amount of whining in the Tobey v Garfield thread from Garfield fans was unpleasant and borderline "you aren't a true fan because you don't dig endless (unfunny IMHO) quips."

True. Both sides need to stop that. It's just that there's this sense of elitism that's coming primarily from the Raimi side. I could be wrong, but it's just a feeling.

True true, but the "true fan" crap usually comes from the raimi side. It's more prominent of Raimi fans, judging from my own personal witness.

And both sides act like it's illegal to like both series. I generally prefer Webb's take on the films, but I still say SM2 is the strongest of the franchise.

Agreed, I still think SM2 is the strongest in terms of story-telling and pacing and tone etc

I also need to add that Peter Parker lives in NEW YORK CITY. It's not like he's in Northern Ontario where all you've got is a Wal-Mart to get your clothes from. Urbanites, for whatever reason, tend to have a better dress sense than people in less metropolitan areas. And he's a kid!! He succumbs to the need to make himself look nice just like every kid and practically every person who has a high self esteem and self image.

Things get so nasty around here, and the people who have the ability to like or even love Raimi and Webb at the same time get drowned out. The only Spider-Man film I completely dislike is SM3, and even that had at least one element I can defend (Thomas Haden Church).
