What if Fox buys Sony Pictures? and they incorporate Spidey into the X-Men cinematic universe?

Id imagine the rights would transfer back over to Marvel/Disney anyway. Spider-Man is their IP. Sony holds the license for movie based production of that IP, but with no Sony, it would default back to the original owners. What happens if they make a deal with Sony and Sony ends up going belly-up in a year or two? I'd imagine they'd put that in the contact somewhere that they'd retain the rights in full?
For disney to buy sony they would need a lot more reason then just spider-man, what else do They own that Disney would like and could cash in on?
In general to buy Sony would cost way more then buying spider-man alone
Sony Pictures already has enough healthy properties (Spider-Man, 007, Resident Evil, its animated properties, the seemingly surefire Goosebumps adaptations, and its comedy star vehicles) to survive and even thrive as they foster new franchises, attempt to reboot older ones (Men In Black, Ghostbusters, Charlies Angels, etc.),
Which makes me think they would make a deal with Marvel Studios about Spider-man separately.

^ I can't wait for the new FF tho.
I'd rather Sony keep making **** Spider-Man films, and spin-offs than for Fox to nab the rights![]()
Unfortunately I believe Sony will never give up the rights willingly. Maybe partially, but not altogether. Greed is just too powerful. I can see Sony going the "Saw" way and making a yearly cheap cheap Spiderman movie and riding out the profits before giving up the rights.
As I've explained countless times in the FF forums, I've never really cared about the 616 FF, so why would I be concerned? the movie seems to be taking most of it's inspiration from UFF (which I'm a pretty big fan of). so i really have nothing to ***** about.I don't see how you can be mad at Sony's treatment of Spider-Man and their proposed plans but then be happy for Fox's treatment of Fantastic Four when their plans are just as bad a bastardisation, if not worse, than Sony's when you really look at it.
That stuff about Emma as Carnage is the funniest thing I read this year
Even better then Aunt May: The Spy ?

Spidey on the other hand, is my all time favorite character! (I'm a fan of 616 & Ultimate) and Sony has been treating him, his villains, and his supporting cast like **** lately. so I'm pretty goddamned pissed!

I guess you're right.. you guys want a proper adaptation of 616 FF, I totally understand. hopefully if Marvel ever gets the rights back, they'll grant you, your wish. But now you know how all FF fans feel, which is the exact same way that you feel about Spider-Man.
I think they also have Grown Ups, 21/22 Jump Street and The Smurfs. But Bond franchise rights is good enough reason to buy studio along Spidey rights.
Everyone is acting as if the Spider-man rights being transferable is a given if Sony ends up selling their studio. It really depends on how the original contract signed between them and Marvel reads. It could be just as easily that the contract stipulates that if a sale of the Sony Pictures company ever were to occur during their use of Spider-man that the rights would revert back to Marvel. We just don't know, as it could really go either way at this point with all the news and speculating. I am just really hoping it ends up with Marvel.

Bring back Roger Moore!
Disney sold Miramax because it didn't fit with their family friendly focus; raunchy comedies like those would be of no interest to them. Bond (which Sony shares with Paramount) doesn't really fit the Disney mold, either.
That's how Sony ended up with Spider-Man. Sony bought Columbia Pictures, who had bought the film rights from Marvel.
Fair enough!
