Since Marvel is going the younger route, I hope Bendis gets involved in some form or capacity.

Yeah, that was mindbogglingly dumb of Sony.
Imagine if after the Spidey Summit, Sony announces that they are stopping all plans to make more TASM movies and will go back to making Spider-Man 4 with Sam Raimi.

"We have decided to bring Sam Raimi back and allow him to make all creative decisions with SM4. We apologize for the inconvenience. Us 'suits' are a little delusional sometimes and think we know how to make good movies. Our films have caused fans a lot of psychological harm and all proceeds from the box office earnings will help give out ticket refunds for our terrible movies."

Overrated in the sense that it's the best Spidey cartoon, because I don't see any other show beating it to that title. Maybe animation wise, but not in writing.

Overrated in the sense that it gets too much praise, I think its a great show but it has many problems that people don't seem to notice.

My ranking of Spidey animated shows is sort of unusual.

1. SSM
2. Spider-Man: The New Animated Series -- I really liked this series. Neal as Spidey? Check. For its time, great visuals? Check. Awesome Fight Scenes? Check. Only Animated Series to feature really brutal and bloody battles? Check. Good supporting characters? Check. Honestly, I had hoped for this show to last a really long time.
3. Spider-Man: The Animated Series -- Watched this a lot during childhood. I don't know, I cannnot really see Peter Parker as this fat/Super-manesque muscular guy.
4. USM -- Watched the first ep and judging from some reviews, it has not changed.

The New Animated Series is actually my favorite, it felt like a live action TV show except it was animated lol I hate how it gets ignored by everyone, Im happy you like it as well

Any quality that came from Sony Spider-Man products came from the people they hired, namely Greg Weissman, and in the movie's case Sam Raimi. When Sony puts their oar in about creative decisions things turn crap.
Exactly. The executives are trained to run a business, not make art. Why hire a painter when you're going to do most of the painting for them? Sure, you should have a say in the final product since you're financing it, but let the artist do his job! But Sony will never learn.

Let's hope we get an announcement shortly after the summit... Nothing worse than rumors after said summit, waiting for official news.

None of the leaked e-mails at least mentioned a specific date for the summit?

Not that I know of. I wouldn't expect an announcement this month, honestly. They'll probably wait until spring or summer.

They should have the decency to give us an update on the status of the film rights or the future of the Spider-Man franchise in general. Then in the summer at SDCC they can give us this big reveal and show us the new Spider-Man actor and maybe talk about their plans for the character. Right now I am only interested in a yes or no regarding the Marvel/Sony talks.

If someone from Sony gets asked about it now, it'll either be "no comment" or an outright no. I don't think they'd confirm something so soon after the summit.

There will probably be a "no comment" sort of deal. If I recall correctly, Kevin Feige was asked about it and gave no real answer. But he then said that "some things are still being discussed" (possibly referring to talks with Sony).

If the reports are true, Feige is feeling pretty confident right about now.

Go on then, I am curious to hear your SSM flaws.
The only flaw I have (and it's not really a flaw, just that they should have pre-empted being cancelled) is they used Sinister Six twice and Sandman twice when they could have used those episodes for Scorpion and Hobgoblin because I was desperate to see Wiseman's take on those characters but I think such was the show's popularity and critical acclaim they thought they were a lock for season 3.

I have every Marvel feature length animated show with my favourite being Hulk vs, how I would love to see a feature length SSM movie or even a few feature length SSM movies with maybe Peter in college. I cannot put into words the disappointment when the series was cancelled. That cut was deep, that SSM was replaced with the frankly piss poor USM, a show that borders on being a disgrace is just pouring salt into the wound.

The reddit guy claims that the Spidey Summit is sometime in early January and that an announcement would be made either 2 weeks or a month later. There is also the possibility that they will just announce it on the day that the meeting takes place, but I don't know about that. Not sure if this guy is legit or not so take it with a grain of salt.

There have been similar reports from other sources, including some other Redditors. So, yeah, salt taken, but these reports all point in a similar direction.
