I wanted something to happen between Gwen and Peter if Captain Stacy dies since Gwen knows Peter is Spidey. Perhaps Gwen thinks that Peter could have saved her dad.

That's actually one of the few things I don't really like.

I would've preferred it if Gwen DIDN'T know that Peter is Spider-man. Gwen could've blamed Spider-man and Peter would be in a very difficult position, since he can't tell her he's Spider-man anymore because he's scared she'll hate him. Gwen finding out that Peter is in fact Spider-man, would really put their relationship to the test. It's a pity they went the other way and made Gwen know the secret...

Sony wanted something darker and more serious to battle Nolan's Batman and Raimi wouldn't give them that, so they did away with him.

But that would not generate more money. if they just wanted to make more money, I think Sony would have just stuck with the old crew and old style. The third one didn't turn out so great, but it made more money than the last two, so people were obviously going to pay money for a fourth one.
You do have a great point though. If Sony really didn't expect fans to be angry with them for restarting again, then it is definitely a way to get more money. But hey, movies are made to make money.
Any way since people are getting PO'd that we keep going back to the Raimi films, lets try to move on from this topic.

I would seriously hope that Martin Sheen would be allowed more screen time than what he was given in SM1. That would definitely be a big waste of talent.

What is hard to do about that?
Just don't make silly dialogues, throw kidish musics and sounds and senseless explosions with a plot that revolves around that.

It's all on the writing and the directing. Spectacular Spider-Man is a great example that isn't juvenil and anyone can enjoy. And it's a cartoon.

I know we aren't supposed to talk about Raimi for a couple pages and I apologize but I think General hit the nail on the head. I think Webb and Co were probably very scared that having Gwen hate Spider-Man for killing her dad would be too close to Harry hating Spider-Man.

While it adds an interesting dynamic, I too wish Gwen didn't know that Peter was Spider-Man. Then again though, it's kind of nice to have someone who Peter can share his secret with. I think we'll definitely get some cool moments ala Ultimate Spider-Man.

Then the morgue police doctor will tell her at the last minute, "Gwen, I was there the night your father died. The scars on his body were made by The Lizard, not by Spider-Man." Then Captain Gwen Stacy will help him defeat Green Goblin, but she will die in the process!

It never occurred to me that Captain Stacy's death would result in Gwen "hating" Peter and until you mentioned the similarity between Peter and Harry, I hadn't even thought of it. IMO, that would actually be a very dumb reaction because Gwen knows Peter is Spider-man and she knows that her father's job carries the reality that he may die every day he goes to work. Their relationship, I think, would just be complicated, nothing within having to do with "I hate you now because you couldn't save my dad, or I hate you now because you caused my father's death". At least in this film, Gwen lives knowing that her father might not come home and she probably knows that Peter is Spider-man in order to save lives (Uncle Ben's death should also mean something to her as the reason to why Peter is Spider-man). Also, until we actually see the movie, we don't know whether it's Peter or Gwen who initiates "I can't see you anymore". Wouldn't it be interesting if it's Peter who says it, for various reasons?

Sam wanted to go back to old style, without Sony involved, and advertised Spider-Man 4 as just that. However, Sony put their hands in the project anyway and purposely trashed it so that Sam would walk away and they could reboot the series based on James Vanderbuilt's script. (Which was already written by this point, which only helped prove my point.)

I might have missed something, but I doubt it. I followed the ending of Spider-Man 4 quite extensively.
