Lol don't say that man..someone is going to see it and then run with that rumor and next you know, people will be talking about Gwen turning into Carnage to get revenge on Peter. No offense to anyone on here who is a teenager or younger, but a lot of times I feel like the internet is filled with nothing but kids who don't know how to respectfully disagree with anyone, lob insults at people they know they'd never say in real life and who have no idea that a RUMOR is just that, a RUMOR. Until you have some proof, it's a rumor and it's more important to check where the rumor is coming from before believing it.

You've just described 99.9% of YouTube.

And speaking of rumors, I was just on a website reading an article and the writer was saying they should start doing press screenings for the movie to continue to get the buzz up..I agree with that and then there's a guy in the comments who says he's going to a press screening in Miami on Wednesday so he's either right or wrong..either way, take it with a grain of salt

I would hope they do a screening soon so they can start getting some reviews up already.

I think that this movie has a disadvantage just for being a reboot, so it will definitely get some negative reviews just for that. I hope people judge it for what it is and not just a movie that was created INSTEAD of spider-man 4.

That's going to happen whether we like it or not.

All that really matters is that you give the film a fair chance and form your own opinions.

I don't think they'll get negative reviews just for that..that's bad journalism. A reviewer may walk in not expecting much or initially being hesitant but you let the movie do what it needs to do and judge it based on that. Most reviewers are professionals who get paid for it, they understand how to be a good journalist. I'm not talking about guys who post on message boards, but guys who work for websites or newspapers.

Even still, "professional" reviewers, like Roger Ebert, don't always give fair reviews

how do you determine what's a fair review though?
He said he didn't like Spider-Man 1 because he "moved too fast." Yet, he praised the 2003 Hulk movie because his movements were like King Kong.

As long as they don't say "this film is unnecessary because it is a reboot," I would consider it fair. Or if they say "Its not good because it doesn't have Tobey Maguire."

When you think about it, a review is just one guy stating his opinion, and the guy could have totally different tastes, different sensibilities, of course there are movies universally praised but even then, there will always be a guy to say that it's bad.

I keep telling myself that it doesnt matter, but it's still painful to see a movie you love being hammered by critics, you want to prove that they're wrong, but difficult. And of course, when you say that this or that movie is great, the next second, you got someone else telling you it's crap, you can never win.

Yeah that's true. I hate when a movie I love, especially something from Spider-Man or Star Trek, is bashed by all of my friends, and I have nobody to talk about it with.

You said what i wanted to say in your first paragraph. You can't ever really prove someone wrong when it comes to films. Some people just won't like certain films. Enjoy it for yourself...who cares what someone else thinks. Ang Lee's Hulk gets a lot of flack but I still love the crap out of that movie.

It's especially annoying when they all say it's crap and you want to tell them "you dumb ****s, you dont know ****, so zip! :D "

I do like however having my own stuff, like a movie or TV show that only I have seen in the group, that way, I have my own things, that I'm not sharing.

Yep but there are still movies that are undeniably good, whether you like them or not, you just can't say it's bad.

Not true dude. We'll have to agree to disagree on this point.

No Country For Old Men and Eraserhead are two widely acclaimed films, both seen as "undeniably good", made by very respected filmmakers. I can say that I think Eraserhead is awful, and my brother, who is a film student, looks at me in horror. With NCFOM, a friend of mine thinks it's terrible and boring, and that film won an Oscar. There's no way to ever say a film is so good it can;t be bad.

Such as the Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Gone With the Wind, West Side Story, Schindler's List, etc... those are what would be called classics

But again, that idea of undeniably good isn't really that true. I love the godfather, think it's a masterpiece and I know people who don't like it. To me, it's a perfect movie but others disagree. On the flip side, A Clockwork Orange is held as this all time masterpiece, on AFI's list of 100 greatest movies etc etc yet I don't like it. I don't think it's a good movie. Well made? Yes of course but I just can't get into it. It's all about opinions and eventually, enough opinions coalesce into being the general consensus..Webhead and I said we both love Tango and Cash but the general consensus on that is that it's a bad movie. Reviews are just that, opinions, you either take it or you leave it

I know people who study film at school, and say that their opinion of films is more accurate than others. I disagree with that.

Agree to disagree. There is no way to say that NCFOM is a bad movie, just not. You take the cinematography, you take the direction, you take the script, you take the actors, even if your friend doesn't like it, it is a fact that it's a good movie.

Such is the case for I dont known Terminator 2. Or such is the case for Alien, or such is the case for Lord Of The Rings.

I can give tons of examples, there are movies that are inherently good, and even if each person has its own tastes, there are just situations where it's a case of bad taste.

Paraphrase my post, will ya?

*shakes fist*

@Picard: well, they may be (in film school) or might not be, but in the case of directors, or actors like you see on Twitter, their opinions matter more than some common guy because they know the process, they know all of this, they are more enclined to judge a movie in its own merits, that's just the way it is.

This is also why there are professional critics, they are always held at a higher standard than some common blogger, that's just the way it is.

Now okay, you do what you want with it, I choose to carefully ignore reviews when they dont go in my way, and embrace them when they do, like I think every fan does every now and then. It's human.

Despite Spider-Man 3 being a huge disappointment, I know several people who like it, or even love it more than the first two movies. Does it mean they have "bad taste?" No, of course not. I respect their opinion. I have a library of films that most people despise, but that isn't going to stop me from enjoying the movies!

But I have seen these people get mad when someone gives a different opinion. For instance...

The cinema studies major said he liked the Hurt Locker more than Avatar. Another friend replies that he likes Avatar a lot more. The guy who studies film said that the other is wrong simply because he is a cinema studies major.
