ASM's first reactions (def. not reviews, but rather simple expressions if Sony will be kind enough) will hit off during next week and the one after. They're already setting up dozens of screenings worldwide (I've seen the lists and dates, just need to see how and when I'll manage to do something useful).

Thanks for the heads up, RIM. I think I'll be holding my breath til I start hearing some reactions from these screenings! I'll be googling like a maniac over the upcoming weeks.

Because that rating is for the Amazing Spider-Man movie that came out in the 70s.

Go to the "Opening Soon" page and it says near the bottom:

The Amazing Spider-Man Voting in Progress

Nice. Some fool on neogaf tried using that as a evidence.

The thing is that he did not work on the film at all, so I would have thought he would give it a poor review, hoping that Marvel would get the film rights back. But he liked it, and has high hopes for ALL comic films, even non-Marvel ones.

I pointed this out earlier, saying that no one has taken his opinion and run with it because it's positive and the internet loves negativity..anyway, he actually did work on it, not just as an executive producer but he said in a few interviews he worked very close on the story of the movie and in casting of Andrew Garfield and he still considers it a Marvel movie in the sense that it's a Marvel Character and good for the company as a whole, not just the studio, for it to succeed. As a big time exec, if his name is attached to it, trust and believe he had a hand in it

Judging on a superficial level based on the footage and the talent involved, I can't see this film getting anything lower than SM1 which was 89% on RT. However, as the release date comes closer, the possibility of it doing well critically seems unlikely. Because I'm pessimistic.
The thing is that the 2002 film was very hyped up, and it was the first time you would ever see Spider-Man on film (not counting the Nicholas Hammond series). It had an advantage.

A lot of people are not looking forward to this film, either because its an "instead of" Spider-Man 4, and just reboot after seeing Raimi's trilogy only 5 years ago. While I am very excited, many others aren't. People are going to judge it for changing the origin, Lizard not having a snout, Spider-Man's costume, etc. It has a big disadvantage. Plus, it is coming out only 2 months after The Avengers, and a few weeks before TDKR.

I just want it to be a solid movie that I can enjoy.

The thing is that very few people (like Kevin Fiege) have actually seen the film. Until the screenings are shown in the next week or two, then all of those "reviews" are complete crap.

I will admit it's surprising that the new Snow White movie is getting some bad reviews, but here's the thing. For Snow White I only saw trailers that looked really good. For Spidey, I'm watching trailers, previews, interviews, etc. I'm "invested" with this film, and nothing looks bad. Maybe if I was "invested" with Snow White I could have predicted that it wouldn't be a great movie.

I'm very invested in this film as well. But more surprising things have happened.

Yeah, I honestly think you guys don't have anything to worry. People are just bashing the film and wanting it to fail. I don't believe the spanish tweet that the guy saw the film. I think he is just a hater who is trying to "glorify" his opinion.

Also another thing most have to keep in mind, when big things come out, is most WILL post negative things about it. Even if they don't truly believe it sucks. People want to be negative so that they can receive "hits".

I don't want to sound like a dick, but if this sucks, I still got Batman. :-/

God, I'm nervous. I really want this movie to succeed but I can't help but feel like it might turn out to be this years Green Lantern...

But does anything indicate it could be worse than Spider-Man 3??

Haha. I guess then TDKR could be a total disappointment too then... :P

This film is in a unique position though. Green Lantern, I feel at least from the trailers, (though I hadn't read any interviews for the film) you could tell it was going to be a decent or mediocre film. There were a lot of aspects about the film in terms of characters (uninteresting villain and lack of character development), scope and just the lack of inherent passion for the characters that gave away to that feeling. So I wasn't surprised when that turned out to be true. Everything I've seen from ASM looks great imo, but there will always be certain people out there, even people with connections in the industry who will hate the film because it's either a reboot or a Batman begins copy or for what ever reason.

we probably would be, as long as you don't hate me for my love of Tango and Cash, another movie which PLENTY of people despise but I love with a passion

Nothing wrong with Tango & Cash. It's an awesome film. Expectations are different with the different decades of films and the 80s and 90s were always about just over-the-top action.

Did the trailers make Spider-Man 3 look like a disappointment that it was?
No, but other than the teaser trailer you could see there were some things that were "off." You could see that the tone was taking a dramatic shift, Venom had a split second appearance in the trailers, etc.

Plus there was a request by SONY to do some reshoots because they felt that there was too much drama and not enough action. You could see which shots were added later (the poorly done CGI scenes in the middle of the battles).

Green Lantern I could already tell was going to be horrible from the trailers. Even the fact that Ryan Reynolds was cast as the GL gave a hint it wasn't going to be taken seriously...

Like how many people think the trailers for TAS-M have been "off"? Lol.

Meh. Probably feels off because people are so used to Raimi's tone. We can't even fully judge how this film will be tonally from the trailers.

Whoa whoa now I didn't like Green Lantern just as much as the next guy but Ryan Reynolds was not the problem at all..he was one of the few good parts about that movie. You could see in the acting he actually cared and was trying to salvage the terrible script he was given and a lack of direction for the flick

I feel like they are trying to promote the movie so much that we have already "seen" the movie, and piece it together. If that is the case, then I am surely going to love this movie.

I don't know, I would have preferred someone like Chris Pine play the character.
