I'm saying it right now. Forgive the hyperbole but after that six minute sizzle reel in front of MIB 3, I just don't see any other way to put this; the Amazing Spider-Man will be the best Marvel film this summer.

In 3D, the reel is unlike anything I've ever witnessed in 3D and for the record, MIB 3 was very, very impressive in 3D. But Amazing is something on a different level.

Visually, it's off the charts spectacular. Garfield and Stone are going to break hearts in this film with their story, their chemistry.

I was planning on skipping the 3D for this but not after some of the ridiculously awesome swinging shots of Spider-Man I saw in 3D last night.

It's going to be mandatory viewing to see this thing in 3D in the theatre. And because of how well the 3D is used, this thing is going to make more money than people think. Word of mouth with spread and this thing is going to make bank, internationally. I have no worries about that anymore.

Amazing is coming on July 3rd.

What you do get from the sizzle reel and the trailers is that Marc Webb and the filmmakers involved watched Nolan's Batman Begins religiously.

I'm not saying their going for the same tone (the dark/gritty) but they're trying for a little plausibility, amongst the fantastical. They're going for plausibility in all phases of this film and that's especially clear in the relationships with the characters.

It'll be a great balance...

I wouldn't say that just yet but thats my opinion I guess. Avengers was a VERY good movie and ASM has to be at just another level if it wants that title. Chances of that are pretty slim, but thats not a bad thing. Avengers was just that good.

Now this, I will actually back up 100% after seeing that preview in IMAX. The 3D is actually so good that it actually is a quintessential part of the movie. The swinging and action just looks THAT good in 3D. So much so that you'd be missing out on like half the fun if you're watching it in 2D. I'd also like to add that I've been no big fan of 3D. Don't really care about it but this movie has outstanding use of it. If movies have 3D like this in the future, I'm sold. Hands down the best 3D I've seen yet in a movie. (btw Prometheus has some gorgeous shots in 3D too imo)

This sentiment is not just from me either if its sounding like I'm just over-hyped since I support this movie. Everyone I know that saw this preview were blown away by it too. And literally all of them had a neutral or mildly skeptical view of both this movie AND 3D as a whole.

Visually, I think Amazing is on a different level than the Avengers. And I'm not talking about visual effects. I'm talking about composition, lightning, set design along with combination of practical and visual effects. It feels more like a real film than Avengers, even if that film did surprise me in some parts, visually.

As for 3D, I'm with you. I don't like 3D and what it's done to the industry but Amazing is going to be a different case. You are correct. Seeing it in 3D is going to be essential to the film, no question.

My only worry is that the 3D won't translate well at home when this thing gets released on Blu Ray. I firmly believe that 3D is only mention for the theatre, not home theater. But, if the 3D is so good and so intricate to this film, how is that going to translate when this thing gets released on home video, come the fall?

And with that, I have to see it at least once in 2D just to see.

I was actually thinking the exact same.

Well I don't know much about 3D at home. I don't have a 3DTV so don't have experience there. But I was led to believe by people I know to have those TVs that pretty much every 3D movie they've had so far has even better 3D at home. It that not the case?

Can you tell us did you see any new Lizard footage?

I would say that you see extra frames here and there in moments we've already seen in the trailers and tv spots. There wasn't anything completely new with the Lizard.

I haven't been following spoilers or the discussion with Amazing Spider-Man with any regularity so I don't have a bias towards how he looks. For me, he looks fine and more importantly, as a CG character, he looks like he's rendered in the environment photorealistically. I think he looks great.

The scene, in the sizzle reel, between Gwen and Peter pretty much outdoes much of what Tobey and Kirsten did through three films. They had some great moments in the trilogy but their problem was how they were written as characters, which I didn't buy at all from a Mary Jane standpoint. And by the the time we got to the middle of part 2, I didn't get why Peter would be all about MJ, considering how she's never tried to know him.

With Andrew and Emma, you can tell IMMEDIATELY that they're quieter moments are going to be so good that whatever happens, negatively between the two at the end of this film is going to hurt the audience in a major way....

My friend (Nolanite) who is excited for this STILL think TDKR will own it, no matter what.

He says TDKRs visuals make ASM look terrible.

Damn hes gonna be butt hurt :P

Rises is my number one film for the year that I'm anticipating. But, it doesn't own Amazing in the visually department for the simple fact that they are going for something completely different. You can't really compare.

They both looks visually spectacular....

Well remember that shot of Spidey swinging toward the Lizard in that comic book-like shot from the trailers? That shot has Lizards back toward the camera.

Theres a reverse shot of that same swing (I'm almost certain) in the sneak peek with spidey's back toward the camera as he's swinging toward Lizard, and there was a very brief flash of his whole front. I liked what I saw.

All the other ones were the same shots or slightly extended (by only like a second) shot of the ones in the trailers.

Edit: Would also like to add that theres an extended, but very quick-cut, version of the police chase/capture and I absolutely loved it. Spidey running along the side of the building while getting shot at looks soo awesome. Probably one of the coolest things about him. Brings my inner 8 year old out watching Spidey in motion.

I must say, I think this will be the best SM Villian.

Yes beat Doc Ock aswell.

Agreed. Since I saw the first episode of Spider-man TAS, I had always wished for this villain to be in a movie, and now we finally have him! I gotta be honest, I had my doubts first but now when I see how beautifully they handled him it almost brings me in tears inside :woot:

If someone after this still says that he looks too much human-like, I'm gonna kick him in the face! ...with my fist O_O

Thx for posting :)

I think this is the moment when the SWAT members turn into Lizards!

No problem :)

Yeah I think too. I didn't know if I liked the "swat members turning into lizards" at first, but the way they seem to handle it looks really cool and has a creepy vibe into it!

The Lizard scans are good, but the overall story and such from what the trailers have given us have yet to wow me. I'm definitely gonna see the movie, but going into the year, it was easily my #3 comic book film, and as a life long Spider-Man fan, that does disappoint me. I am hoping this movie surprises me like X-Men: First Class did last year (but my lack of hype for XFC was due to the fact I wasn't a big fan of the X-films to that point...that was first X-film I thought was great).

Hopefully the story does wow you once the film is finally in theaters. There has gotta be something important that they are not telling us. I think this movie will be just a little worse than TDKR and The Avengers, which wouldnt be bad at all
