Those who have been keeping track of everything that has been coming out about the movie on a regular basis, sure. Those who haven't, on the other hand, were probably more susceptible. Like myself, for instance.

t: that's hilarious. I remember before it came out, a friend and I were talking about ways to incorporate the sandman and the symbiote and it all made sense and we figured that's what they'd do in the movie..nope, not even close. I really don't get how the writers missed such obvious connections

I read an article on EW this morning about MIB 3 and how it escaped the curse of the threequel and of course the writer mentioned spider-man 3. I definitely feel that spidey as a franchise and Sam as a writer/director don't deserve that blight on the record but alas

I was reading IGN the other day and they say how "terrible" SM3 was. Yet they give it a 4/5.

Sounds like he'll be put to good use. I'm actually more looking forward to Spidey the musical. I've been waiting to see some singing and dancing with Spidey, and that's never going to happen in the films.

The curse of the threequel only works when the first two movies are good. MIB2 was an awful movie.

I think they were more so referring to the fact that third movies in franchises aren't good, especially one that comes out 10 years after the proceeding flick. I get your point though.

@mysterioman yeah it's one of those hindsight is 20/20 things. I remember reading the review and whomever the reviewer was said it was the best of the series and he stood by that. The thing about sites like that though, is that not everyone will agree with the reviewer because it's one man's/woman's opinion. I don't even think the guy who reviewed it works for IGN anymore but I could be wrong. Most of their movie guys now think it's a bad movie and thought it was when it came out, something they state in podcasts so the reviews don't reflect the opinion of the site as a whole

I feel SM3 is good decent movie on its own, but if you watch it after watching SM1 and SM2, it sucks. In no way does it escape being a bad threequel, it's Spider-Man's Batman Forever. Reading the rumors for SM4, that could easily be Spider-Man's Batman & Robin. What I'm trying to say is, after SM3 the series was in a bad direction, and a reboot was gonna come sooner or later. So to the Raimi-Lovers and Toby-Loves, listen, we had a great ride, but all rides come to an end, my ride ended on May 4th, 2007. Now there's a new ride, and it starts July 3rd, 2012, and hopefully it won't end on July 3rd, 2012. Spider-Man 3 was a conclusion to that series, there was really nowhere to go; Peter is with MJ, both Osborns are dead, Venom has been dealt with, Gwen is out of the picture, honestly and realistically where do you go from there? I mean, you can totally make a sequel to SM3 (really any film ever made for that matter), but it would mostly likely of been a crap movie and a desperate one to keep the ride going.

I said the exact same thing after I saw it. I thought it was cool, not great, enjoyed it but said well there's no where else to go. The Goblin Legacy arc is done, Peter and MJ will fix their relationship and Peter made the ultimate decision: He forgave the guy who killed his uncle, something that signifies a complete journey for him from the first movie to the last. It reminded me of the end of Batman Forever where Bruce said he's batman because he chooses to be not because he has to be. At that point, your story is done. One of the things that drives Pete is guilt: Guilt for Ben, Gwen, Captain Stacy etc etc..once he forgives himself for all of that and loses that guilt, his journey as spider-man loses a bit and he grows beyond who he was as a character. Sam had a story to tell, he told it, now let someone else tell there story

And one of the reasons that movie suffered is because, and I remember it vividly as if it were yesterday, Joel Schumacher felt it was time for Bruce to get over the death of his parents and move on. He CAN'T move on, that's the point. You took the characters main motivation away so now he's just some guy in a suit who's getting married and about to lose his father figure in his life...nah doesn't do it for me.
