The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 1

Oh, as I said, I'll definitely watch hands on previews. What I was mainly talking about was avoiding walkthroughs and stuff like that on Youtube.

Oh yea, i wouldn't ever do that with a game i was planning on getting.

I never watch whole walkthroughs before I've bought a game, but I've sometimes watched parts of it and even that has ruined the experience. I just can't keep myself from it sometimes

I went on a media blackout for Uncharted 3, the last thing I saw before playing the game was a few minutes of the E3 demo when they showed of the boat part. It really heightens the experience.

If anyone here truly wants to enjoy this game and have it live up to any expectations they may have, I suggest to not look at any gameplay videos leading up to its release. I know it seems difficult, but i've done it with god of war 3, metal gear 4, dmc 4 and shadow of the colossus, and I can honestly say those games surpassed any expectations that I had.

It was great being able to play these games and not know what would happen next or discover a new gameplay mechanic, boss etc. It took me back to the days when all I had was a game informer and some pictures to go off of. Most people on here are already set on purchasing the game, if that's the case and you truly want this game to live up to the expectations you have, I suggest you follow my advice. To each his own, but I thought I might suggest this for those interested.

Great first post and welcome to the boards!

It's not like Activision, that's why
Who cares? Just enjoy the glory of a studio working under them and say "This is how your studios needed to work since the start Activision"

Thanks, i've been following this forum for a long time now and figured I finally become a member. It's nice reading the opinions of people who look forward to superhero games (especially spider-man, batman and superman) as much as i do. This thread has been really enjoyable to follow.

You'll fit right in. We ALL want good games based on those characters. Lucky for us we've got an incredible Batman franchise now. Hopefully Spidey is right around the corner and as for Supes, well, who knows if that'll ever happen.

Welcome. I did the same thing. I was a lurker on these boards for probably a couple of months before I joined. You won't regret it. Or will you? Muwhaahaha!

The Amazing Spider-Man Game

Our Lead Level Designer answers a first fan question coming from Anthony Nelson: How does time work in this game? Will the sun set after a while?

Hi Anthony! We wanted to create a strong connection between the mood of the city and the story. This is why we’ve decided to go with specific time of days depending on your progression in the game. Be ready for iconic vistas in Manhattan!

Fan Question #2 - Chris Crawford asked our Lead Level designer: In the Rhino trailer I noticed you changed the combat a little and seems to be more tamed and more staying close to the ground, what was it like making this change?

Here’s David’s answer:
Hey Chris! You’re right! We have completely revamped our combat system to deliver a much more realistic experience than previous spidey games. You’ll see new moves and combinations influenced by Mexican Wrestling and other styles of combat. The Rhino trailer was just a quick preview...we have much more to show you in the upcoming month. :)

Sounds great. Just what Spidey needed. A more grounded realistic approach to combat.

I'm cool with that. Always thought having spidey jump 30 feet when all I wanted was him to hop over and behind a bad guy as over kill. I just hope they don't weaken his powers outside of the grounded combat.

It most certainly does sound that way. The article also points out that there is a bullet time-slow down effect that you can trigger so you can chain several Web Rush moves together and make Spidey move even faster. I could see that effect happening just like you stated Pat, "from the floor, to a wall to the ceiling.." So outdoors it would be something like from a sign post, to the side of a bldg, to a car roof, to a light pole...all while making some amazing Spidey-esque twists and turns with his body.
Ya sounds a bit like the grappel gun mechanic in Arkham City.

And the key there is...MORE, to be shown in the upcoming month! I can't wait lol. I'm glad that AA & AC were so successful cause it laid groundwork for other games and their approach.

It doesn't sound like his powers will be weakened. For instance, Beenox stated that Spidey's web swinging speed full upgraded will allow him to get across Manhattan, 13 miles, in just a few minutes. I forget the actual time but the speed worked out to be around 160 mph.

I just don't want any more 30 hit, air juggling combos.

Looks like they are getting away from those cartoony combat manuevers and thankfully so.

Now, that's what I'm talkin about, I think that's a great idea and a great approach to Spidey's combat, making him move like a luchadore is a perfect fit. Seeing Spidey pummel some one with 30+ punches may be spectacle in itself, but it get's stale after a while, and plus, if he pulls his punches and he's applying the strength comparable to his opponents, I don't think they would take 30 punches and still get back up ready to fight. :o

Why were you doing these cartoony attacks if you don't like them in a Spidey game?

Why were you doing these cartoony attacks if you don't like them in a Spidey game?

Oh this is an easy one, well the way the games were set up, some moves just happen as a result of it being a full on animation of given attack, for example in Web of Shadows, Spidey had a 3 punch combo that would result in literally a Dragon Ball Z esque cavalcade of fists once you upgraded the move, not just that, I mentioned before a while back, quite a bit of Spidey's moves in that game where moves that would have been better suited for a fighting game. Don't get me wrong, some of his moves looked comical as it occured, but stepping on a person in midair without gravity making the enemy plummet back to the ground, c'mon.....really.

One thing about Spidey is that he's never had a set fighting style, he basically uses what he already knows and applies his powers to it to work in his advantage. TASM IMO seems to be making him have the qualities of a luchadore by performing wrestling moves and takedowns that would normally be performed by a wrestler. The previous games IMO just relied way too heavily on button mashing which in turn makes some combos not even worth trying, it was just a "use what's been working" type scenario, offering very little strategy. If you ask me, Spidey not only uses his agility and strength, but he also uses his wit in combat, so given if he's outnumbered, he observes his surroundings and already has it mapped out in his head how to take out multiple opponents from different directions. So, with this change in his combat it should offer even more ways to get creative so no one fight will be exactly the same as the last one.

Good point. By in large, I'd agree.

Especially with teams and franchises that, in one way or another, gained my trust as a consumer. Bioware, Kojima Productions, Bethesda, Rocksteady...to lesser extents, Ubisoft Montreal and Shanghai...are teams I can think of that I'd see pictures, read previews, and watch trailers...and can pretty much convinced that I'll love what they're selling. With the first four, I would probably buy blindly and still wind up enjoying it.

It's the unproven teams, or the inconsistent ones, or even just the franchise itself that creates clouds of doubt that I find myself looking and searching to see if I should drop $60 on it new.

I think Spidey, as a franchise, has kinda gotten a cloud of doubt over it that will cause people to look closer and make sure it's their thing.

That's very true, certain developers carry a level of credibility to where the consumer doesn't really need to question the quality of the product. As far as I'm concerned, Activision isn't one of them, I'm a fan of Spider-Man just as much as the next person, but the way Activision has been handling him and their spotty track record with previous games, it's kinda hard to drop 60 bucks on something that your really not sure of. There have been instances where I went into a game not knowing what to expect and I was surprised with the end result, Assassin's Creed, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and even going so far back to GTA 3, took me by surprised and I was hooked, and the sequels in those franchises expanded and improved things from the predecessors making them that much more enjoyable. We need that same kind of feeling when it comes to Spider-Man, now is the perfect time, TASM is basically a reboot of the franchise, so the game itself needs to be a fresh start on Spidey.

The web-rush to me sounds like the web-zip from SD and EoT, albeit upgraded. Just wanted to drop in and say that.

The web rush mechanics sounds cool. I can't wait to see how this plays out in the film. I wonder why no one asks why they have added the belt yet? I'm not complaining at all and I honestly don't mind it. But it jus seems to stretch a little bit as far as the suit being skin tight but hopefully more gam lay will help me get use to this thing

Someone asked on Twitter, and, because they give such good answers, all they said was...

It's our own creation!

I also asked them how much of the game features it and they replied.

The whole game!

So...there...I guess...?

Well the game takes place after the film so maybe Parker realized he needed a utility belt for extra web cartridges?

Im not a fan of the belt, but then again, I'm not a fan of the ASM suit to begin with. I hate it a lot less now the more iv seen of it, but it deff doesnt compared to the classic.

This is the first Spider-Man game where I'm actually looking forward too. I tried Edge of Time and hated it. I just couldn't get into it. I played it for like 4 hours and quit.
