I saw it for a third time today. I've well and truly had time to absorb everything about it now, and given it a fair shot. As a Spider-Man fan I'm glad I did. My overall opinion has not changed, but the flaws did stand out a bit more than on the first viewing.

I still think Electro is the worst villain ever done in a Spidey movie. I can't believe how badly he was done, and with such a terrific actor like Jamie Foxx in the role. Max Dillon is a goofball cheesy caricature, and Electro is nothing more but an attention seeking loser with a paper thin motive and atrocious dialogue.

Dane DeHaan is still solid and very good as Harry, I just wish we saw more facets to Harry's character besides the dark and intense one. His brief friendly chat with Peter, we needed to see that nice human Harry fleshed out more because that warm side to Harry, that friendship with Peter is vital to the character, and it was all too brief and under developed. So it lacked any real punch when Harry turned Goblin. It didn't feel like best friends turned enemies because the movie never invested in their friendship enough. I still loathe the Goblin design, and think Goblin himself was just shoe horned in at the end for a quick scuffle so [blackout]Gwen could die[/blackout].

The less said about Paul Giamatti in this the better.

Andrew and Emma are the real stars of the movie. They are truly wonderful. Webb rectified mistakes with Peter from the first movie. Peter did not act like an unlikable *****e who makes light fun of breaking promises to a dead man. This was a more likable, respectable, funny and warm Peter who is conflicted over choices he'd made breaking that promise. The awful Spidey costume from TASM was replaced with a beautiful Spidey suit. It look incredible in every single shot. Spidey himself was a witty, heroic, touching hero who makes you laugh one minute, and touches your heart the next being sweet to a nerdy kid who was being tormented by bullies.

The action still looked great to me, I just didn't like how we only had two fight scenes in a movie with three villains. And I still think Harry's one was way too short where he barely got to show off his battle prowess. Hans Zimmer's score is forgettable in some places and truly awful in others (Times Square scene).

I still leave it as a 6/10. Andrew and Emma are the ones that weight most of that score for me, and save the movie.

because he seems to be a passionate spiderman fan and passionate critic and writer and i believ his review blows and i would like to hear some thoughts on his flaws on his review and your back ups.
Yep. It was you posting your own videos.

MrTardisReviews mentioned that TASM 2 is the worst CBM ever (Yes, worse that Batman & Robin)... To those who watched the movie, is that true???? :( I pretty curious to know.

I said this to Picard yesterday, and I think I'll quote myself on it:

If you truly love Spider-Man, you will love The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - it goes hand in hand.

Is it fair to say that? I mean there are some changes to the source. No Norman Goblin Harry Goblin. Harry Goblin kills Gwen.

Also, while I haven't seen it, I'm a little worried about Harry's progression. He will reconnect with Peter for the first time in 10 years and he will turn into the Goblin. In Raimi, Harry at least had a progression. We had Harry as Pete's friend, then in the sequel we see Harry hates Spidey and finds out the truth, then in the third we see Harry Goblin.

I'm just feeling like I think this will be ok and an improvement over the first.

No it's not the worst CBM movie ever. Not even close.

LOL

If you truly love badly-paced movies with poorly scripted characters and an emphasis on numbing CGI spectacle, you will love The Amazing Spider-Man 2. :cwink:

It's an entertaining movie, and I'll buy it on blu-ray. But I'm afraid this Spidey fan won't be declaring his love for an average film.

i liked that Peter´s ringtone is the spider-man theme, also him humming it while webbing Aleksei

The Good:
Gwen and Peter's relationship is brilliant
Aunt May
Electro's voice and power display
The soundtrack...in places.
The action sequences were superb
[BLACKOUT]Gwen Stacy's Death was incredibly brutal and emotional[/BLACKOUT]

The Bad:
Some of the pacing is a tad odd
The soundtrack...in places
Harry/Goblin was way too rushed
Rhino was not needed at all
The scientist torturing [BLACKOUT]Electro[/BLACKOUT]..His accent was an absolute parody.
One or two character's were overly saturated in terms of stereotyping.

The Ugly:
Electro's god awful rubber suit with a six pack and lighting bolts was like a throwback to Batman and Robin

Exactly, no way near. Amazing 2 is a perfectly decent, entertaining superhero movie, but there are much better ones.

Whoever said that should go and watch the Captain America 1978 TV movie starring Reb Brown.

LOL

Wasn't talking to you, man. :)

The Good:

Rhino was not needed at all

It was almost shameful putting Rhino in this movie - and on the posters.

Sony - putting the Rhino in Amazing 2 is not going to make anyone more excited about the Sinister Six. You're just wasting precious screen time.

I thought so too

I think it's fair to say that, yes.

I too, was in my head a lot when watching the film at the premiere. But if you just let go of all that, and actually watch the movie, you should realize how good of a movie it actually is.

I wasn't crazy fond of it right after seeing it - it wasn't until like 12h later everything started hitting me. I think there's a lot to take in from the movie, but once it sinks in... Man, is the movie ****ing good.

I think the costume is more of a "Spiderman" thing then a Sam Raimi thing, I don't think Sam Raimi invented the spiderman costume

[BLACKOUT]i think the Rhino was a good adition, because in the first part it shows how Spidey´s job is really as said before he is always under pressure of time while he has to save the day, the ending for me would´ve worked much more if it was just the russian mob and not OSCORP again he is the only one who can stop Rhino, not just another crook and that HE can´t give up for failing, he needs to keep doing what he is meant to be...[/BLACKOUT]

Saw it about 8 hours ago. Overall a bit disappointed although I'd need to see again to have a proper opinion as there were 4 very young kids (and a rude mum) sitting behind me screaming and crying throughout the whole thing ruining it. The action was great throughout but otherwise the film didn't seem that coherent and many of the build up scenes were just not good at all.

I do love Garfield as Spider-man though (& Emma Stone as Gwen) and every sequence of him doing regular everyday Spidey business was awesome (& there are quite a lot). This is the wisecracking Spidey I always wanted to see and could watch him swinging around the city taking care of minor crooks and saving citizens all day.

The emotional subplots didn't really hit home for me or fit well, intercut with more zany villain encounters. [BLACKOUT] I hadn't been looking at spoilers before I watched so I didn't know Gwen dies which was done well and very sad but for such a big event seems a little wasted in this film. And a shame we won't see her character any more. Spidey putting his mask back on and returning for the end after hearing Gwen's speech seemed too reminiscent of SM2 but the ending to the film is still a good way to go out.[/BLACKOUT]

Electro's powers were very cool but I'd have preferred the main villain to be more serious. And this Harry Osborn had plenty of personality but he's not a patch on Osborn from SM1-3. I can't tell how much of an impact the screaming kids had on my opinion but as it stands the film was not as good as I was expecting but the action is great, Spidey/Parker & Gwen are both great. Apologies if this affects anyone's excitement, definitely not my intention. I think others fans may like it more than me.

You weren't talking at all, you were typing on a message board as part of a big discussion which anybody can respond to.

Quit the hyperbole.

What I'm saying is that you don't need to make fun of what I say - this isn't pre-school.

@The Joker

A question. After 3 viewings of the thing -with most of the novelty worn off- would you say the film ever becomes boring due to the problems of the script? That's a concern of mine: that it drags, that it loses you.

How can you watch movies you're temperate about three times?

Do you work in film?

I don't even watch movies I like three times.

Honestly no. I never felt the movie drag.

The reason I think that is because there is so many sub plots going on to ever drag. Too many, which is a big problem with the script. It bit off more than it could chew. It jumps back and forth from one thing to another. From the Peter/Gwen drama to Electro, to Harry, to the Richard Parker story etc.

People may find some of these things boring in themselves. For example a couple of my friends didn't care for the Richard Parker story.

How can you watch movies you're temperate about three times?

Do you work in film?

Lo no I don't work in film. The only time I couldn't watch a movie more than once in a close space of time is a movie I dislike, or am totally indifferent to.

I don't even watch movies I like three times.

Really why?

Really why?

Because movie tickets are expensive. The only movies I've seen multiple times in theatres in recent years are Man of Steel and Hunger Games: Catching Fire, both of which I saw twice.

If I own the DVD/bluray I might watch a movie an additional 2 or 3 times, but it will probably be spread over some time.

They become less fun on repeat viewings.
