The Avengers The Avengers Critics Reviews Thread - Part 3

Heh, well, even if it balloons up to 40 negative and there are a total of 280 that's 86%, so I'd be very surprised if it ended up at 85%.

It probally won't go that low but it's still an accomplishment. This is the kind of movie that many critics are putting on a tee and looking to crush. It's big budget, has crazy hype, huge fanboy following, going to rake in lots of money, and had a monster marketing blitz. For a movie like this to get such good overall reviews is great. We all probally could have predicted the critics that were going to hate this movie.

I will also say that Thor, IM2, and CATFA getting such high scores is also an accomplishment. Those movies aren't given credit by alot of people but 74%, 77%, and 79% is a strong percentage of critics.

To be completely honest, the only thing that the reviews are right IMO is the thin plot. Everything else the critics are wrong.

This movie is the equivalent of Star Trek 09' That movie didn't have a real thick plot either. Both movies couldn't though because 'assembling the team' was the focus. I expect the sequels to have much thicker plots because of that. Avengers had alot on it's plate and Whedon balanced it very well. This movie would have been an absolute trainwreck had it been produced by any other studio.

I just got the brief nightmarish glimpse of a Fox produced Avengers. Never again will I let such a thought cross my mind.

Yikes.

Star Trek was one of my favorite movies of 2009 so if The Avengers is the equivalent of that I'll be a happy camper. 6 hours until the midnight show :yay:

I agree about the sequels having better plots.
Lord Thanos
will make sure of it!

I agree that Star Trek 09 is the blockbuster it's closest too in many ways, though I think Avengers is better, even on a plot level (for starters, it has a much better villain). And I say that as a big fan of Star Trek 09.

You are also right ElMariachi that Avengers has been in critical crosshairs ever since it was announced for a ton of reasons. The fact that it's doing so well critically in the wake of that really speaks to its quality.

I shouldn't say that. Tom Rothman finally came to the realization that to make a good comic book movie, you need a GOOD story. Not Tim Story. :woot:

At least a FOX Avengers would've had this guy :wolverine

Somebody probably wouldve said avengers assemble though. :p

Lol...true. And that would've been the best line in the whole damn script. Other than:

"Find engine three. I'll meet your there."
or
"Doctor....Bruce. It's okay. I'll get you out of this. I swear on my life you will walk away and never..."
"Your life?"

Nope, that has about 283, Star Trek has 292.

And I don't think Avengers will be that high. I think most Marvel movies, the highest is about 250/260, which probably means it won't have enough to get back to 94%, but it will definitely be in the low 90's.

Yeah, if it ends up at 260 reviews, it can only get 3 more negative on RT if it wants to get back to 94%.

Guys, its been fun hanging here and watching all the goings on and such. But Ive pretty much read all the reviews i want to read, and it is now time to take the plunge myself. After ive seen the Avengers (twice) this weekend, Ill post my thoughts in response thread and pop my head in here for a last farewell.

y u no stick around? We got iron man 2 and Thor 2 coming up. :D

The Boston Phoenix and Chicago Reader both didnt like A New Hope. Just sayin'!

Found that intersting that those are the recent rotten scores.

Boston Phoenix, what the hell kind of name is that for a newspaper? That's like giving your kid two first names. It doesn't work.
