With all due respect... what if it gets down to 80% or 60%? What exactly? What will we be unable to do or say in favour of Avengers?

Great scenario, El Payaço, but it's a shame for you Nolanites that this won't happen. Even if it would, the movie is still brilliant in its own right, no one here needs the critical approval to enjoy a movie, we judge with our own eyes what we see.

I'd be a tad worried - as you look to be - with The Dark Knight Rises though... what if the critics got tired of Nolan's pretentious glorified "transcending" take on Batman? What if people find boring? What if the critics don't like it and say it looks pale and boring next to The Avengers? What if they say it's trying too hard?

Don't get me wrong, I ****ing LOVE Batman. I think that Begins is the best Batman's movie so far, but exactly because I ****ing LOVE Batman I know that he deserves better than Nolan. I can't wait for the reboot. And I'm really excited to see what the critics have to say about TDKR's Julie Newmar take on Catwoman.

With that said, I don't want to start a The Avengers vs. Nolan war, it just had to be said, straight and clear. Enough of passive-agressive pretentious crap coming from you.

The Avengers is shaping up to be the Star Wars of our time. Marvel and Whedon have made a film - and let me repeat it for you - FILM that has critical, public and fanboy acclaim like no other, and said movie is a box office juggernaut. You mad?

The 'Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning' part was meant to be said seriously the way it was. It was supposed to set up a grand answer. The joke is that the next part was supposed to be said really quickly and dismissively like nah we got nothing...'Ahhh the same thing as everything else'. The joke is all in that 2nd part but the director/actress didn't know. That can happen when you're reading the script not looking for a comedic line and the guy who wrote it isn't around to tell you.

Exactly: its the tipical subversion of expectations that has Whedon all written over it.

I'll go and think you misunderstood what I said. What I said was that what critics say should be irrelevant.

If TDKR fails, it fails and I won't have a problem saying so, the same as I didn't have a problem saying Batman Begins was not the great Batman movie other fans were saying.

And about RT's rating, I don't have a problem. Transformers 1 was very much liked by people - 89% - but critics gave it 57%, go figure. It'd be sad if someone lost sleep over it.

Yes, please don't throw around terms like Nolanite (or Whedonite... even though I admit to being one!). I love that we're all excited about Avengers, but I'm super stoked for TDKR too. It's like everyone's excited and on eggshells if anyone brings up any potential drawbacks. And I hate fan conflict. It interferes with awesome discussios around the boards.

Okay, I'll retract what I said, but I've seen enough of passive-agressive remarks here, I think this should be exciting times for everyone that enjoy movies based on comic book characters. I'm excited for all of them: The Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises and hope they all succeed. I've had serious doubts about The Avengers even though I was excited after seeing the first trailer, all of that looks like a distant memory now that I've seen it, I hope the same happens when I see The Dark Knight Rises at the opening day. I'm sorry if I hulked out a little bit here, and this goes to El_Payaso and everyone here on the boards.

Yeah, the pessimistic comments occasionally get to me at times too, but there are quite a few Avengers enthusiasts here, and ones who have seen the movie already several times over, who get me back on the happy train, so to speak.

Now all I have to do is wait until tomorrow to see it for myself! Gah! So excited!!

Yeah, the pessimistic comments occasionally get to me at times too, but there are quite a few Avengers enthusiasts here, and ones who have seen the movie already several times over, who get me back on the happy train, so to speak.

I'm not worried about RT anymore. Clearly at almost 150 reviews it's just under 10 negative, and that's the ratio that IM1 and TDK had, so clearly this is going to be in the 90's which puts it with Spider-man1 and 2, IM1 and TDK so it's up there with the best of the genre. Whatever the rating was it won't bother me. I thought Thor was a much better movie than what it was rated, but oh well.


For some of the critics who dogged the movie, some were obviously creating click bait, which is going to happen. Others were negative, but informative, some I just question their logic, like A.O. Scott giving Drive Angry a 3/5 but Avengers 2/5. I haven't seen Avengers yet, but I don't have to see it to know it's better than Drive Angry.

Anyway, everyone's got an opinion, but it is funny to see the Nolanites squirming in their panties over this. And by the way, I enjoy Nolan as a film maker and I'm looking forward to TDKR, although I think it's not going to be as good as TDK, and that's OK. My reference to Nolanites are the ones who have no appreciation for Batman '89, and never heard of Christopher Nolan until Batman Beings, but now he's the greatest director of all time, even though they only saw 3 of this films.

It's sort of like the difference between Mac users (which I am one) and Mac Fanbois (which I am not), that threaten you if you provide any critique of Apple products. I had some overheating issues with my MacBook pro and I was all but accused of lying on the Apple Tech boards by the fanbois. That's the kind of stuff that drives me nuts.

It's quite possible I won't. The Avengers could very well kill me with the collective awesomeness. Haven't felt this excited for a movie since Captain America (which I loved), Star Trek and Iron Man.

Batman 89 is one of my top CBMs of all time too. Definitely in the top 10.

yeah and the funny thing is that the "Wahoo!!" only appears on the RT page and not on the Tuscon weekly page that you have the link for. Being a long time Avengers fan- all the positive reactions to non critics and critics alike that love this film... its a dream come true. We see it myself on Saturday
