The Avengers The Avengers Critics Reviews Thread - Part 3

"The Avengers" is done well by Joss Whedon, with style and energy. It provides its fans with exactly what they desire. Whether it is exactly what they deserve is arguable.''

- I guess Ebert really doesnt like us then. I mean, it's arguable that we [the fans] deserve what we desire, a movie with style and energy??

What have we done for him to show such distain, I wonder?

He's still mad that someone called him an old man and a fool in the comment section of his Thor review :hehe:

Also, a small part of me misses Michael Keaton's take on Bruce Wayne.

 I really appreciated the Nostalgia Critic's "Old vs. New" about the '89 Batman vs. TDK (IIRC, since it contrasted Nicholson's Joker with Ledger's). He had some really astute (IMO) things to say about Keaton's portrayal that articulated for me why I still think it's one of the most interesting and effective.

Maybe it was the ****storm he received when he made his "computer games can't be art" argument a while back? And he's just lumping that audience in with the audience of CBM films?

Ah, I guess Ebert is saying that we might like it but we might not know what's better for us. Kind of. It's like we're babies and Whedon is feeding us sugar, which we much desire but not the most nutritious thing to feed us with.

I'm guessing.

Same but without the nite on the end :oldrazz:

You're Burton??? :wow:

We behave like jackasses and *****e bags when we find something we don't like. Plus we lash out at any perceived threats to our precious comic book properties. (Present company included)

You're Burton??? :wow:

I love the look and feel of Burton movies.

I wish Nolan would right a script and Burton would Direct it.

Lol, sure not the worst he's been called.

Never seen that article or review. but yes, Keaton had something nobody else has had ever since.

Ebert acknowledged on Twitter that he thinks his Avengers review reads more a 2.5/4. Whether this means he'll change it on RT, or if he can, who knows...

He's totally entitled to his own opinion, but I do resent the whole "what they deserve" sentiment. Highly condescending toward us fans. I don't see how a well made movie with style and energy doesn't somehow qualify as a movie us fans "deserve".

I disagree with Ebert on occasion, but the dude explains why he likes or dislikes something each and everytime, so I give him respect in that sense.

Sweet! I'm still a massive fan of Returns -gotta love Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, and I adore Nicholson & DeVito. Also, a small part of me misses Michael Keaton's take on Bruce Wayne.

Batman 89 is one of my top CBMs of all time too. Definitely in the top 10.

UGH! can't stand any of those movies. I have 'some' problems with nolan but his batman is far superior to burton's.
each to their own.

^Well.....that's objective. Nolan's Batman is given some more depth, whereas Burton's was treated more psychotically in a sense, like an urban legend. He was basically as weird as most of Burton's protagonists, only the most normal looking.

Right now I don't care about RT's final rating. I'm enjoying the SHH's members review than the critics. I'm even surprised that some Batman fans are having a blast seeing this film.
