Not enough time for a proper conversion, I think. Jon Favreau said that he didn't want to do half-assed 3D. Iron Man 2 only came out a few short months after Avatar was a monster hit, which made every studio convert their tentpole films into 3D as if they would all magically gross $2 billion also (It only really worked again for Alice in Wonderland). But really Iron Man 2 was never released 3D? Why didn't they do that?
Going back to The Avengers, I think I will see it in IMAX 3D on my second viewing, because the theater it's playing at has $7 admission bargain Tuesdays on all shows. Might as well. But the only films where I truly enjoyed 3D in the theater were Avatar and Transformers 3. The reason being is because those were filmed using 3D cameras. That's why I'm also anticipating seeing The Amazing Spider-Man and The Hobbit in 3D as well.
