The Russos also said that IW will have lots of new character interactions. :D

The thing to question is are they talking about characters they have on the board that represent a wide variety of 'levels of participation'. I mean, the film will (most likely) focus on a small core number of characters but when you start to add in other peripheral/side characters that interact with that core group - then the number of characters 'in the film' is going to go up.

If that makes sense.

Also, if it's just an 'idea board' right now then some characters may get crossed off/not included in the film as they continue to work through these planning stages.

Just my take on it, though.

That's a pretty insane amount of characters!

Do the Russos have any siblings? Because they are going to need all the help they can get directing this mammoth.:D

It is very unlikely we are going to see any of the TV heroes show up in anything other than a cameo.

I'm fine with that actually. In that sense, I am fine with a cameo from the Guardians too.

Hahaha. Yeah the defenders teaming up is most likely not happening. Avengers and Guardians teaming up is amazing, kind of weird that you don't like that idea.

You call everyone who has a different opinion than yours weird? :whatever:

Defenders are definitely happening. You can't have 67 fricking characters and not include any Netflix heroes.

That's basically my read on it. And going further, a Russo said they're still breaking the story, so I think it's more "here a 67 characters that are available to us that we might use", rather than "we're using 67 characters".

Nobody said we're getting 67 characters for sure. They said they have a board with 67 characters. That could just as easily mean they're trying to decide who will or won't make it into the films. But even if it's true and we're getting 67 characters, it's not hard to reach that number without dipping into the TV shows.

Assuming nobody dies in Civil War:

The Avengers: Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot.

The New Avengers: War Machine, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision.

Confirmed Civil War heroes: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Spider-Man

Confirmed Phase 3 heroes beyond: Doctor Strange, Mantis, the Wasp, and Captain Marvel.

The Inhumans: DEFINITELY will include Black Bolt and Medusa. Karnak, Lockjaw, Gorgon, Crystal, and Triton are very likely as well.

So at least 30 heroes.

So villains: Thanos for sure.

Past MCU villains who are still alive: The Abomination, the Leader, Nebula, Justin Hammer, Loki, Batroc, and possibly the Red Skull.

Confirmed Phase 3 villains: Baron Zemo, Klaw, Mads Mikkelsen's character from Doctor Strange, Baron Mordo, whoever will be the Ant-Man and the Wasp villain, whoever will be the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 villain, whoever will be the villain of Thor: Ragnarok, whoever will be the villain of the Captain Marvel movie, and Maximus the Mad (likely).

This is a toss-up since a number of them will likely die, but probably not all of them.

Then look at supporting characters from each franchise:

The Hulk: Betty Ross and Thunderbolt Ross.

Iron Man: Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan, possibly even Christine Everheart (she did appear in those viral Ant-Man segments).

Captain America: Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter (flashbacks), and Howard Stark (flashbacks). Possibly even the Howling Commandos (flashbacks).

S.H.I.E.L.D.: Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

Thor: Heimdall, Lady Sif, Volstagg, Fandral, Valkyrie (rumored to appear in Thor: Ragnarok), Jane Foster, Darcy, Professor Selvig, Darcy's boyfriend (I forget his name).

The Avengers: Helen Cho. Hawkeye's wife and three kids.

Ant-Man: Hank Pym. Possibly Janet Van Dyne (if she's rescued in Ant-Man 2), Scott's heist crew (Dave, Luis, and Kurt), Paxton, Cassie Lang, and Maggie.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Yondu, Irani Rael, Rhomann Dey, Cosmo, and the Collector.

Black Panther: T'Chaka (flashbacks) and depending on who else ends up in the film, possibly T'Challa's sister Shuri.

Doctor Strange: Night Nurse and the Ancient One.

Whoever end up as the supporting players in Captain Marvel.

Other: Howard the Duck and Martin Freeman's mystery character.

As you can see, the MCU has a very deep bench of characters without digging into the TV shows.

Hmm nope I just said that to me it's weird to not want to see the Avengers and Guardians team up, because the majority would. Seems simple enough.

I think maybe they're saving an Avengers/Guardians team up for the end of Phase Four. They have to think ahead.

Well, that's how it was in the original story, so it makes sense. You had a core group but then you also had cameos from a lot of other stories since this was a universe affecting event.

The Russo Brothers tease a New Avengers team becoming more prominent and a different lineup for phase 4:

http://comicbook.com/2016/01/11/the-russo-brothers-tease-new-avengers-characters-for-infinity-wa/

That means??

Movies in phase 4:

Hawkeye and Mockingbird
Black Widow
Captain America 4 (with Falcon/Bucky as Cap)
Giant-Man/Wasp
Vision and Scarlet Witch
War-Machine (as Iron Man)

No Avengers anymore:

Tony Stark
Steve Rogers
Thor (no Loki)
Hulk

-> would be a big risk to do so!!

I think you will see supporting Avengers become primary Avengers.

I think the Russos are talking about Avengers that aren't the original six. The supporting Avengers are likely the new heroes getting their own movies in phase 3, plus a couple of movie-less Avengers like Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Wasp.

It's a risk, but not one Marvel isn't prepared for. There's a reason why they're introducing so many new characters on phase 3. If the audience likes them, then they'll be fine with new Avengers replacing the old ones.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the newer heroes having a more prominent role in the second movie, compared to the first one.

Ooo, it'd be awesome if the Watcher was watching the heroes of Earth and we see stills of their greatest battles as the Watcher says Thanos is coming. Then we go to like a really really big battle montage. We see all heroes fighting there respective villains, Defenders taking on crime in Hells Kitchen, Spidey weebin up bad guys, Ms. Marvel blasting bad guys, even some serious quick scenes where we have Bucky in jail being rehabilitated. IM and Cap retired and watching news of other heroes with their women or friends or something, BP sitting on his throne in Wakanda, Thor in Asgard with Jane. Coulson and Fury back on the Hellicarrier and shield reassembled. Banner getting beat up, then his eyes turn green. Doc Strange handlin the Mindless Ones. Gaurdians outrunning evil alien ships. So on, so forth. Cute scenes like Scott with his Ants. Then we zoom out and Thanos says

"It's time."
Entire sequence should be 10-20 minutes. As well as be accompanied by an epic score. And ensure Pt 1 starts off with a recap of how many heroes Marvel has assembled

*Cue Infinity War Logo*

Part 1 starts off with a bang and everyone is immedietly drawn in.

People are gonna have to let go of that one. He's married with kids and she's getting her own spin-off with her *****ebag ex-husband who she is probably getting back together with.

Marvel has reached a point where they have enough good characters to headline a new Avengers team without the big four, which is quite an accomplishment.

Sounds kinda cool, though a little far-fetched

A couple of things...

1. Still feelin' the range whenever people call Carol Ms. instead of "Captain"

2. Jane isn't in Infinity War. Thor is on Asgard, or what's left of it and he is with Sif. They are lovers. Jane who? :ilv:

3. When is Daisy going to beat up Coulson and become Director of Shield? After the last midsession finale, it's clear Phil has gone off the deep end. Daisy shows up in Infinity War as the Queen Boss ***** runnin' this **** and she butts heads with The Avengers.

4. Ant-Man showing up with all the world's ants to do battle with Thanos would be epic. Ant-only is the only hero resurrected by an infinity stone.

5. Is The Watcher Stan Lee?
