Who cares about any of this nonsense if the movie is incredible? Good is good no matter whats in the movie, and people will go see good movies.

Just like people saw Serenity, Sunshine and Scott Pilgrim...Who cares about any of this nonsense if the movie is incredible? Good is good no matter whats in the movie, and people will go see good movies.
Actually, having just read the original comment, this was started because it was suggested the alien invasion vibe would hurt the success of the Avengers film.
If Transformers, an extremely successful alien invasion film (albeit, an already known franchise) does not count as a 'typical alien invasion' film, why would Avengers?
Also, I think it's BS you discount Transformers anyway, I mean, these days, what ISN'T a pre-known franchise? The vast majority of summer flicks these years are based on a comic or novel or tv series or anything. Hell, even District 9 was based on the directors own short film :P
Because you're "lump summing" a whole slew of countries together in order to depict a successful international box office. The #'s aren't that impressive when you consider how many countries that really is.
I meant their take home with the 12-13%. Alas their international takes are really not them impressive when you look at it. Their domestics are successful in relation to their budgets, not because people flocked to see them.
District 9
$115 million domestic
$95 million international (61 countries)
Super 8
$124 million domestic
$60 million international (32 countries)
Semantics. You and I both know that Transformers carries a massive brand name recogition compared to movies like Skyline, District 9, and Super 8. It's not even a comparison. People didn't go see Transformers simply because it was an alien invasion.
Read the article and do the math on their examples.
while it's definitely Semantics with the other invasion films.. he's pretty spot on with comparing it to the Avengers though... both have HUGE brand name recognition, and no one is seeing either film for the "alien invasion" plot
Damn, I wasted all those years focusing on how to interact with people without being a *****e bag when I should have been learning humour, like you :S
Then consider my defensive comment officially retracted :P
Thats a golden idea, the dude just does a terrible Samuel L Muther****** Jackson impression.

I saw you posted the collegehumor link and just figured you were a fan
I actually thought it was good at the beginning, but as it went on it got worse.
But if we could get the real SLJ to do this on SNL or something

I actually doubt that very seriously.
Look at how poorly alien invasions have performed in the last few years --- Cowboys & Aliens, Super 8, District 9, Falling Skies, V, The Day the Earth Stood Still, War of the Worlds, etc.
It's like all of us (including us here at SHH) are expecting an alien invasion to be inevitable. Unless Marvel can bring something new to the table with their version of an alien invasion (hint: they can't....there's nothing unique or fresh about Skrulls or Thanos or Kree or others at all), then you're going to have a very tough sell to the GA.
At this point, I think a Ragnarok might be the best bet, and might, in fact, be what they're shooting for. Rather than an invasion by aliens, what if it's all about Loki unlocking the gates to the other Nine Worlds and releasing hordes of frost and fire giants, rock trolls, dark elves, and even Fenris and Jormungandr onto an unsuspecting Midgard...that *would* be fresh and unique.
Have LOTR invade the Earth instead of the usual array of ID4 aliens and giant saucers.
honestly? i don't think you should view this as "blank amount made in # of countries... Especially for instance in Europe, where the countries and population are almost like if you tried to split the US box office into states... That's why i just group international together.. the US population as a country out ranks each European population...
