You know, I just realized, or thought of something just now:

Technically speaking, even though we have the whole description and promotion of this film saying that it’s where heroes will unite and assemble together towards saving the planet; where Tom has said that we have 8 superheroes going up against Loki, speaking strictly from what we’ve seen and know of their actions and reputations in the MCU films, isn’t it really just three superheroes by name only going up against Loki?lol

I mean we have Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, who are well known in their distinctive areas for their heroics in saving the innocents and such; but we then have the Hulk who has been mainly classified in the MCU World as a huge liability, then we have Hawkeye and BW who are just first class assassins and SHIELD agents, and Nick Fury is just the head of SHILED and reports to the government/World Council.

I’m not being nitpicky or saying that the film sucks, but it’s just amusing for me when I think about it that way.

And I think that's normal to have a relatively few characters who...I dunno, just speak to you on a level that others simply don't. And given the structure of something like the Marvel Universe you don't need more than that to get quite familiar with the whole mythos. You read character XYZ's books long enough and you'll get a passing familiarity with the rest as their paths cross. I've never read a Cap, Spidey, X-Men, FF or Thor comic all the way through yet I'm familiar enough with them with the whole mythos osmosis thing going on. Which is why I have always loved the Marvel U. Hopefully similar things can happen as a side effect of the interconnected universe deal they have going on.

That's true. There's a connection between reader/person and some characters, which is not easy to describe. The most similar example would be the relation between team and supporter, if you like sports of course.

Kevin Feige talking to IGN about MCU "Phase Two":

"We've already announced Iron Man 3 and Thor 2; both of those will be spread out within 2013," explained Feige. "We haven't announced yet the 2014 movies, but we are working on a draft of Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, and some of these other ones we've been talking about for a while. Ant-Man I'm hoping we can get off the ground sometime soon. If these first group of films – "phase one" of this Avengers saga starting with Iron Man and ending with Avengers – has an overarching theme, which it does. As people sort of watch all the movies together and then watch The Avengers movie, they'll see this big picture we've been building towards... we have started working on the bones and structure and threading for a phase two. It does start with Iron Man 3 and if it all works – which we hope it does – culminates in another Avengers film."

I love this idea. Thus from IM3 on forward we will be building towards another mega event picture. It looks like it will feature Avengers, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Dr. Strange. I'm glad they are breaking up the phases so we can digest 6 or so movie "chunks" instead of 12 movie marathons. Good call. Feige never ceases to impress me.

Phase one is not even complete, and I'm already crazy about phase 2.

Hawkeye could well become more prominent in a sequel.
Most definitely. I'm really looking forward to Renner's portrayal of Clint. :awesome:

If we're talking two new additions I'd love Vision and Black Panther.
When I think Avengers 2 I think of this pic:

Minus Ms. Witch of course. :woot:

It’s interesting to wonder as to which hero will be given the focus and attention that the Iron Man franchise has received, in terms of being treated and handled as the flagship for the singular hero films once the Iron Man franchise is completed.

And how fitting that Iron Man 3 is what will supposedly start the journey towards the potential Avengers sequel seeing as how Iron man 1 was the one to start us off with the first one; also Feige’s comment about the aliens in the Avengers being a precursor as to the things to come in the MCU world, that should be exciting to see…

If the Hulk doesn’t get a sequel of his own but gains a good reception from his presence in the first Avengers film, he may return in the sequel as well.

What I love about Feige and Marvel's plan is that they already have a vision of where the films will focus energy toward, and they actually are building toward something in the future. So those aliens (aka stuntmen in mocap suits) will not just be lackeys to be killed off in the movie, but may served some purpose down the line. It's a bold move by Marvel, and I hope they'll succeed.

It’s a shame that Maria Hill isn’t allowed to be on the set of the live action like BW is able to be it since it’s just a crime that BW is getting all of the attention when Maria hill is just as hot.lol

Robin Sherbatski > ScarJo

Where is that above shot, and that new Loki gif coming from? Did some NYcon footage leak?

Has this been posted?

While promoting next summer's The Avengers at New York Comic-Con, the film's producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed to IGN that -- just as it has in 50-plus years of comic book continuity -- the superhero team's lineup would most likely change for a big screen sequel.

"Absolutely. That's the fun of it -- introducing new characters," said Feige when asked point blank whether fans should expect a change-up to the roster. "Seeing: 'How will things change after Iron Man goes through his next adventure? After Thor goes through his next adventure? If we do another Cap adventure, how will things change? The dynamic between them? Their own worlds? So that the dynamic in Avengers 2 is actually quite different than it is in the first one."

I would honestly be fine with Hank and Jan not showing up for Avengers 2.

Yeah, if I had to replace two avengers to get 2 new ones, It would be BW and Hawkeye at the moment.

I'd probably add two females to the group this time around; Ms. marvel and Wasp maybe.

Course if they do have new teammates, does that mean that we'll have to wait extra longer for those specific new recruits to get single films of their own?

I can't imagine the pressure though since it's never guaranteed that any comic book film will be well received, even if it's supposedly leading up to something big, so I'd hate to be the hero with the film that stands out as the one that was critically panned or performed well under expectations.

Black Panther needs to be introduced in his own movie before a sequel.

I'm wondering if the 2nd Initiative will be a build up to Avengers 2: The Infinity Gauntlet.

The after-credits scene for Avengers could be a cameo of Thanos becoming aware of Earth or discovering one of the Infinity Gems..

2013 brings us Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 which could both have mini-scenes of Thanos on his way toward our planet and/or assembling the Infinity gems.

2014 could be Captain America 2 and Dr. Strange with more Thanos post-credit activity.

2015 brings us Guardians of the Galaxy and finally Thanos arrives with Avengers 2: The Infinity Gauntlet. The GotG can help the Avengers fight Thanos but are introduced in their own movie as Feige mentioned. Maybe the Cosmic Cube is actually one of the Infinity Gems. Once it's near the other gems, it could reform itself to match them. Or their weilder, Thanos, reforms them to fit his gauntlet.

I would like to see the short film rumor too, which could introduce us to other characters, like Luke Cage and Iron Fist amongst others. These characters could be included in Avengers 2 for the major threat and given Avenger status.

As much as the Avengers assembling was a massive build-up, ~3 years to build up the sequel could be even more intense. Imagine the anticipation as it takes that long, for the general public, to figure out what is happening.
