Well when have we ever seen a good superhero movie about a black superhero? The Blade movies were low budget R-rated niche vampire fare, so they don't count.

Steel? Spawn? Those movies were trash.

No one has ever bothered to put the effort into a movie about a black superhero that has been put into the likes of Batman or Spider-Man or Thor. Same thing with female superheroes.

Cast Denzel as T'Chaka and a really good up-and-coming actor as T'Challa and with everything BP has to offer as a character you've got the recipe for a big hit

I agree. I think it's time that Marvel or DC start putting serious effort into a good movie about black superhero. DC had Steel and Catwoman, but those were low-budget and/or terrible movies. Marvel/New Line Cinema had Blade trilogy, but the series ended on a bad note and there hasn't been any movement on either Luke Cage or Black Panther, and these two imo are the best black superheroes in comicdom. And BP can have a solo origin movie first, before moving into The Avengers 2 as a new member. I hope Marvel Studios will consider Cage and BP seriously in the near future.

Serious question. Besides maybe Klaw what other main characters would be white? I would want my BP movie based in Wakanda. This poses an interesting question, how well would an afrocentric movie do with the ga?

Ejiofor would be really great for BP.

Good seeing Vision getting a little bit of love. Always had a soft spot for that character.

FWIW, I think Dr. Strange is a definite for the sequel.

I have to say I would be very surprised to see Dr. Strange as a member of THE AVENGERS in the sequel.

I definitely see him as part of the MCU and maybe referenced in the movie but not as a member fighting alongside CA, IM, THOR, etc.

I would go out on a limb and say that if THE AVENGERS is massively successful that they will introduce more 'risky' characters in GOLIATH (Henry Pym) and WASP.

I'm not sure what race he is, or *she* is, or even if they're human....but I think a terrifying alternative for a BP villain besides Klaw would be....

to me that would be a triumph. i don't think you have to worry though, all the producers at marvel LOVE the hulk and are for some reason under the impression that every 8 yr old and their grandmother love him just as much as they did when bill bixby was banner and will continue to throw money at the character to make him work into the forseeable future:csad:

I completely agree. I would rather see the Hulk disappear from The Avengers' lineup. He was only an Avenger for a short period so it would make total sense to use him in the first movie and then drop him. The fact that he can't support a solo film should tell the producers something about his appeal to the audience. There are many other Avengers who could be added to the rotation.

Not to derail the thread in favor of Hulk talk, but my opinion is that Hulk hasn't had the success they hoped for because: one - Banner keeps getting the bulk of the focus. Two - he's TOO savage. A non-talking Hulk has a severe handicap in terms of potential characterization.

Well, in the sequel they have to have at least one female character in it to please the fanboys I suppose. It can't be a total sausage fest...though I gotta say Scarlet Johannsen must feel like the luckiest girl in the world. No wonder she's been on a hugging fest with the male cast members.

I like sausage fests myself. The Avengers is overflowing with eye-candy for us fangirls. As a matter of fact, I think that Marvel/Disney should market the movie to women by focusing on all the hot actors starring in it. A few shirtless shots of RDJ, Evans and Hemsworth would be a good way to kick the campaign off. :hrt::fhm::awesome:

^ this.

I was, at one point, adamant about Djimon Hounsou playing this role. But after seeing enough of Chiwetel's work, I realize he'd be the better choice.

I wish to sign onto the Ejiofor bandwagon for BP. I'd be delighted with Hounsou as well, but at this point Ejiofor also seems more likely (? perhaps?).

I also would be happy to engage my suspension of disbelief enough to have Elba continue as Heimdall and be Luke Cage. I assume he'd use an American accent for Cage, anyway, which would help. And his eyes wouldn't be all funky.

I look forward to Dr. Strange, but I'd be content to see him more as a guest-ally of the Avengers than on the team. If we're talking team additions, I guess BP and Ms. Marvel top my list. Although it'd be nice if we didn't have to have just ONE woman on the team at a time.

Not saying you're wrong but I have to say that the reasons I think THE HULK movies have not been successful are:
- Ang Lee's movie was too artsy, off the beaten track, and unentertaining.
- Poor VFX that made Ang Lee's HULK look like plasticene and took people out of the movie, as well as poor design.
- With TIH there was little interest due to backlash from the first movie.
- Again ineffective VFX (cartoonish look) that took people out of the movie.

If Ejiofor ends up getting cast as BP I will be sold on it instantly.

I agree with some of what you've posted here... TIH suffered from the backlash of Hulk, but i thought Hulk was entertaining. I also didn't think the CGI in TIH was cartoonish at all.

Think they will blow their load and use Dormammu off the bat in the Doc Strange film? Dormammu could also be a future Avengers threat as well.

I'd agree with that (mostly). I think TIH Hulk had high and low points in his VFX.

Would like to see Michael Jai White do Cage. Dude is physically set already. I read that guy with White's voice all the time.
Elba would make for a great Blade. He's got the British accent (which would be more true to Blade's character).

ejiofor has always been my choice for Bp. Hope he gets it. You can check his onscreen fights to see him in action. Serenity and redbelt the latter is jiu jitsu only.

Agree. Really the prime choices are 2, Ejiofor or Elba. Under consideration is two biggest black Marvel characters, Luke Cage and Black Panther...

Ejiofor is more clean cut, friendly looking look fit for a kind yet smart king. Elba is more grizzled and muscled. Elba has done Heimdall so interacting as BP with Thor would be jarring. On the other hand Luke Cage can be presented as a separate character to the Avengers series.

My personal pick, and should have been yours to:
Elba as Luke Cage (which is the role he wanted)
Ejiofor as T'Challa (Ejiofor knows the rumor already)
Yeah, that'd work for me. To be honest I've always thought Michael Jai White would be great as Luke Cage, but he might be a bit too old at this point (he's only two years younger than Downey).

I think that they have to use Dormamu and Mordo in the first Doctor Strange movie. Those are Strange's classic villains and they usually worked in tandem. In Dormammu's case, he has the potential to be both visually spectacular and terrifically menacing. For later movies they can mine Strange's rich history for villains. He has such a deep bench that the possibilities are mind-boggling.

I'd watch a BP or Cage movie but I'm not sure about the general public. It might be best to introduce them in another movie, like BW for example, just to get a feel for how people take to them.

When will we get more news?? I want to see the footage of Banner and Widow so bad. :( It sounds like its a good scene from what people are saying.

He's perfect for black panther. Looks young enough too. Elba is too old for cage and panther. They're both younger men i believe
