I'd say the Midgard Serpent, Jormungandr, would be more likely than Fin Fang Foom.

Given that The Midgard Serpent *is,* after all, Thor's sworn enemy, and (according to Ragnarok) the only creature that is destined to kill Thor at the end of time. And, he'd be a helluva lot more powerful and terrifying than Fin Fang Foom.

I *could* see a blend of Foom and Jormungandr, however....make Thor and Loki and the others know him by the Midgard Serpent myth, but in actuality, he's a Makluan alien critter. But please god, do NOT use the name "Fin Fang Foom" in the MCU. Ever. Call him "The Dragon," whatever.....but "Fin Fang Foom" would be the laughingstock of filmdom.

cherokeesam so the Midgard Serpent supposed to kill Thor, why didn't it happen in Thor vol. 2?

Because it's the comics. ;)

There've been plenty of epic battles in the comic books between Thor and Jormungandr where one or the other "kills" each other, only to find out that their victim was a fake or a stand-in; and/or they're resurrected by magic.

If they can make the look of this supposed monster look as good as the Kraken from the recent take of "Clash of the Titans"; then I think they're good.

I do agree with you though, the Kraken looked impressive in Clash. With ILM and Weta working on this movie, I don't think we have anything to worry about.

It should be interesting to see on how the likes of Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow would approach on taking down a giant creature.

If anything, I'd see Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk having the best chance of subduing the creature based on what I've seen on everyone's abilities.

I want to see the Avengers having a hard time against the creature at first. Then Captain America should step in and assign them all different jobs to take it down. I could see Widow and Hawkeye taking out the eyes to blind it.

They did something similar in an episode of EMH.

Well if the words spoken in the EW article is entirely accurate, then we can expect to see a lot of situations where it seems like the Avengers are in a predicament where the odds are entirely against them in winning.

I just hope it's not too many times that happens. Then it just gets repetitive.

I was speculating about this a little while ago and it's honestly the only way I can see it being Foom. Could just be Midgard serpent, but I think for the film he'll be associated with Foom's race at least. I also think the fight against the thing will be relatively short. Allowing for the appearance that the creature has been defeated(Shapeshifts, or teleports away after its head comes to rest on the street). It could please fans because we would initially see it as only the Midgard serpent, having Thor and Loki talk about it that way, and then maybe we get a reveal in the post-credits that connects to the Mandarin's rising powers in Iron Man 3(if they go magical). Like maybe the post-credits is Mandarin finding the serpent and it communicates with him telepathically and reveals it's sentient. Tells him something big is coming(Ragnarok or a cosmic threat or both), and that Mandarin has to help it rule the world to prepare it. It could be in Iron Man 3 without Tony even knowing it, working behind the scenes with 10 rings, and then make the jump to a another movie.

"Leviathan" could fit lots of things, or either of the creatures, but I'm really thinking it's some flying dragon/serpent creature. And hoping it's a Foom/Jormungand hybrid that's being done. Who knows though, it could even be Atlantean in origin, but then I don't really see it flying all that much(it seems like its above street level). I could also see them associating with Foom's species, just for a chance to plant a seed that connects to us seeing Mandarin with another magical dragon

I, for one, love the name Fin Fang Foom.

Yeah. I can see it working like that.

Me too. It's a good name.

That would be cool

I just don't want them to overdue Cap giving the Avenger direct orders, because some things should happen naturally since each of the Avengers are fairly experienced themselves.

I don't want it to seem like they can't do anything effective without being "force fed" what to do.

Yeah, I'd like for the "big guns" ie. Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk to be assigned to take on the creature while Cap, BW, and Hawkeye keep the infantry at bay (unless the army's defeated before the creature is summoned).

For some reason, I do see CA, Hawkeye, and BW being more suited to stealthily infiltrate into enemy bases undetected and take out the enemy from within while individuals like Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man would be best suited to handle the big challenges head on as you had mentioned in the open field.

someone knows some updates about the rumor from jeffrey wright being on the set?

Exactly

That's what make superhero teams necessary, each member is there for a reason and if everyone specialized in the same area what would be the point?

I still can't believe at times on how big of scope the threat is for this film. It gets me excited to know that the Avengers will have formidable foes going against them in this film; something that I was worried about a while back.

But how do you make it seem different from that big monster Thor killed in his own movie? In that one, he just flew through the mouth and punched a hole in the head. So why couldn't he do the same to this "Leviathan"?

For one thing, I think the monster being presented in the Avengers is supposed to be as tall as a actual building and another, it's very likely that the Leviathan has more durable skin and defenses protecting it.

I'm thinking they come up against Howard the Duck:woot:
....no? Just me....
