Lucas's original plans called for a third trilogy that would be set after the events of ROTJ. Unless there has been some news about the projected trilogy that I missed, it does appear that he has abandoned those plans.

I was there in 1977, opening week. As an 11-year old kid. First thing me and my buddies and cousins saw was "Episode IV: A New Hope," and we were already wondering "WTF." It became a hot topic of conversation in the newspapers in the following weeks.

I saw it at the sneak the day before it opened in 1977 [ I was 18 years old ] and the EP 4/New Hope was NOT there - just STAR WARS. As others have stated, it was added to a re-release AFTER EMPIRE came out - 1981 sounds right.

I love that idea, too. I've wanted Cap to be stronger since I was a little kid. Having him grow more powerful in the movies makes sense since the Hulk and the Abomination both used variations of the Super Soldier serum and are exponentially more powerful than Cap.

It is always said that Steve Rogers is merely at the peak of human potential, but not superhuman. The scene with the punching bag argues otherwise. I don't think it would be possible for even the strongest normal man to do that sort of damage. He would have to have at least limited super strength to do that, wouldn't you think?

Isn't the Ultimate version of Cap stronger than 616? I think that's what they were going for in the movie. I'm all for it.

Yes, I believe Ultimate Cap is truly superhuman unlike 616 Cap. 616 Cap may be able to lift half a ton over his head with extreme effort while Ultimate Cap is more like 5 tons(or half as strong as teenage Spider-man). Even so, he's still quite a lightweight in the super-strength department compared to many other Avengers.

Sorry to keep us off track, but just to clarify the Star Wars stuff (from Wikipedia):

The film was originally released as Star Wars, without Episode IV or the subtitle A New Hope. The 1980 sequel, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, featured an episode number and subtitle in the opening crawl. When the original film was re-released in 1981, Episode IV: A New Hope was added above the original opening crawl. In regards to Star Wars... I always heard there were 9 original books so to speak


Problem being the original movies actulally relied on acting..... alll be it bad at times to create the drama..... where as the new ones relied on green screens.

Chewy was cool and we loved him but he was not a muppety target for kids. Face it every kid loved Yoda....but he was a serious character, the love grew it wasn't manufactured and targeted to generate love....

Dude, I have seen people on Back to the Future threads swear that when they first saw it in theatres they saw the 'To Be Continued...' tagline at the end of the film, but that also wasn't there, they only added that when they released it on home video.

As someone else said, it was attached on the re-release, they said that was in '81, I wasn't sure what year it was released, guessing they did it right before Empire.
So, I guess you are confusing memories there somehow, or it is some kind of Back to the future thing, literally! Calm down, haha.
I don't have it, but apparently on the dvd release of the original cut, Lucas did precisely that, and put the original cut with the opening crawl without the epIV:ANH subtitle.

It depends on if your definition of human potential is "the most the best human can achieve right now" or "the most any human will ever be capable of achieving". In 1898 the world record for bench press was 361 lbs. What would they think if they saw Ryan Kennelly (in 2008, surpassed 1075 lbs.)

Point is, Cap's always been shown doing low level superhuman feats like that, hell, even Daredevil flipped a limo one time and he is just a regular dude, albeit one in great shape.

Anyway Cap can still do things that would amaze and astound us because he's just that much more awesome compared to us. Whether that feat is superhuman or not depends on who you ask.

Well, the punching bag thing wouldn't be humanly possible due to pure physics (although physics is of course disregarded in the MCU since it's not very epic to have someone try to lift a mountain and end up with two handfuls of stone) and I would highly doubt that the human frame could develop that kind of explosiveness. It's not just throwing away a heavy sandbag with a punch, it's also ripping apart it's metal suspension.

Well it's not like they haven't played with the idea of super strength in First Avenger. That film is full of enemy soldiers flying a lot further than they should even if the strongest man hit them. It was almost cartoony in a way. So it won't be like this is new territory in the Avengers unless they drastically amp up what kind of strength he has.

Take the most any human can do and add 30%. 30% more muscle power in the same frame then Tyson and 30% more speed than Jet Li. Do the equation for power and it comes out at more than 30% more.

Its about the sum total of ALL his systems working together at peak human capacity. THAT is superhuman really, as humans can only near that in one area (running, lifting, reflexes, stamina, etc.). There will never be a top power lifter who is also a top runner. Cap has them all at once, at peak human potential.
