If Hawkeye is depicted in his Ultimate iteration, then he should be amazing. I really hope he shines through. Everything about his character screams cool.

Interrupting to point out that in exactly 6 months time Australians will be sitting in cinemas watching The Avengers movie. Now that's definitely squeeable!

Such an interesting line.

When do the Avengers not have a leader? Does he maybe mean the earlier stories before Cap came on? I mean, Iron Man founded the team but was there ever an official leader or chairman before Cap?

Also Fury being sort of in charge didn't come around until Ultimates. In fact, the Avengers were always independent of SHIELD beforehand, but at one point they were officially funded by the government.

The Avengers have always been a democracy. Or maybe even socialists. I don't know where people keep getting this notion that Cap was the de facto "leader" of the Avengers....the simple fact was that the Avengers elected a new leader every year, and just about everybody from Cap all the way to frickin' Dr. Druid and Vision took a crack at it at one time or another. In fact, last time I checked the main Avengers fansite, Wasp has served more terms as leader than any other Avenger.

I swear to god, it's going to be really hard to not be so stoked about the movie when it's really really really really really close to coming out and on opening day. I don't want to be a victim of being extremely disappointed due to having really high expectations.

I think the notion comes from instances and dialogue from the Marvel Characters themselves, that usually look to Steve as a leader.

+1

I'm gonna need Banner's heart monitor.

I expect him to be pretty cool, but yeah nothing like "DUDE HAWKEYE OWNS CAP AND THOR".

True, he and Blackwidow are the most expendable members of the team in this film.

It's just that the other four members have full films that contribute to this film plus I would've rather had Wasp and Giant Man.

Either them or Black Panther and Ms. Marvel

I wouldn't be surprised. Renner is an amazing actor.

Hawkeye was always a fun character in the comic books. He can be equally fun on screen if they give him the right dialog and a whole lot of swagger.

In theory Avengers is a democracy, but in practice Steve Rogers de-facto wise leads the Avengers even somebody else chairs the team. JLA is more democratic in terms of leadership than the Avengers because at most times there's no clear leadership in the JLA.

I think what Fiege meant about The Avengers not having a leader is that while Cap is the leader there still is no "main character" per say.

Yea, Cap may be the leader, but good Avengers comics (see Busiek, not Bendis) have always given all the characters time to shine. It's not called "Captain America and The Avengers".

Exactly

I'm also glad to hear Fiege say The Avengers won't be "Iron Man and his Amazing Friends" (contrary to what the trailer shows).

Well, there was that one time...
