I would also dig seeing somewhere at the end the Avengers decide to go about it on their own independent of SHIELD, but I wouldn't expect it. I think they are keeping it in the Ultimates style.

I mean how funny would that be that Fury comes up with and forms the Avengers and they instead stick it to him and go like, "Yeah good idea, we'll do it ourselves with you, nyah :p !" I mean that would be cinematically ironic and hilarious.

But even in the Ultimates after Ultimates Vol. 2 they broke off from Shield because they're very existence prompted the whole Grand Theft America fiasco with The Liberators.

Same here.

One of my worries about this film is that Fury will get too much screentime. Some may find that complaint weird but this film really should focus on the 4 main. Not to mention I don't think Jackson was right for Fury, I don't care if his likeness was used for the Ultimate version either. It's basically Sam Jackson being himself most of the time. Hopefully he steps it up for the actual film.

I get where you're coming from. Whilst I want to see Fury in action (which from the trailer it looks like we'll get that), I do want it to be mostly the Avengers. Though I'm still hoping the Fury/SHIELD movie is still happening (which doesn't just mean more Jackson, but more Clegg as Coulson. :awesome: ).

I dunno. It could be a mix of the Ultimates and the time where they were tied to the government in the main comics since it's not quite clear if SHIELD in the MCU is part of the government or more like version in the mainstream comics.

Though I would like them to distance themselves from SHIELD, I still at the same time want there to be a reason why Fury would still have contact with them. Although if they went that way I guess it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Fury to still give them a heads up to any threats that only they can handle.

What Nick Fury? 616 or Ultimate?

I started reading the character of Nick Fury in the comic SGT FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS in 1965. While that comic was going on (and being set in WWII)....they started the adventures of Col. Nick Fury agent of SHIELD (set in the then present day of the '60s). So...for around 46 years I have followed the adventures of Nick Fury from WWII to the present. It's only been the last few years that Nick Fury was drawn (in some of Marvel comics, not all of them) as looking like Samual L. Jackson the actor. As I have said before....I like Sam Jackson....I have seen and own much of his work.....but when I look forward to watching the AVENGERS movie....the main thing I am looking forward to IS NOT Sam Jackson playing Sam Jackson....but of seeing Nick Fury interacting with Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Hawkeye.

In 616, their charter made them part of the UN and gave them full jurisdiction in any member nation. So yeah, they'd still get all the heads-up on global threats. It's just that the Avengers do *not* need to be members of a US government paramilitary organization, because that would lead to the US President regarding them as little more than a private army he could use to fight whatever war against whatever enemy he felt like. (See "Grand Theft America" in the Ultimates, as mentioned above.)

Ok, I see where you're coming from. And of course SJ isn't what I'm most looking forward in the Avengers, that'd be more Thor. Anyways I've always looked at 616 and Ultimate Fury as completely different characters, I didn't even like Ultimate Fury at first b/c I like 616 Fury so much. But I came around eventually and now when I see Sam Jackson on screen as Fury it just really works for me.

Sam works in the movies so far for me too. But unlike many people who say one of the main reasons they want to see The AVENGERS is because Sam Jackson is in it....I want to see the movie because I've wanted to see decent live action movies of my favorite comic characters for decades.

Agreed, it'll be cool to see him action but at the end of the day if he wasn't in it I'd still be in line on opening day.

Count me in the group that would like to see the Avengers break off and work independently from SHIELD. There could still be a working partnership there, though.

... and bring us the Avengers Mansion.

Whatcha gonna do brotherrr!

Orlando Bloom as Legolas seemed to do pretty well with his bow and arrows. :oldrazz:

He did but I wouldnt say he stole the movie. Also its not really an accurate example because he was not just a guy with a bow and arrow. He was the the most physically elite of the group as well. If Thor or even Cap used a bow and arrow then okay maybe they could steal the show. But just an athletic guy in a PG-13 movie aint doing it

Have yall seen the Avengers featurette on the Captain America DVD? It gave me chills. I watched it with my room mates who I consider as part of the general audience and they couldn't stop talking about how badass it looked. I'm hearing people around me talk about it more and more, buzz is building and it's got me pumped.

I can understand that, but I'd think Marvel has taken that into account and will probably feature some awesome Hawkeye moments in the movie that will make people understand why 'just a dude with a bow and arrow' is on the team.

Firstly I'm fustrated that I don't have my CA:TFA blu-ray yet.

But secondly I'm glad that some people realise that about HAWKEYE; he has immense potential to kick major @$$ in this movie, especially if they give him some teched-out special arrows.

Doesn't anyone remember Legolas in LOTR, and Robin Hood; Prince of thieves.

I'm glad Kevin Feigie is in sync with this cause I'm hoping HAWKEYE's protrayal will make those guys look like amateurs.

Then I shall beat you with that dead horse. :cmad:

Now that Cap's released on Blu Ray and DVD...there needs to be an HD YOU ARE FAILING video.

It's out in the UK?

Just checked.... looks like UK release date is Dec 5th :(
well that stinks! Well at least some of us still haven't seen Thor's bluray stuff because we have no bluray Player. In a way we're in the same boat Lee. :D

Somewhat Avengers related:

Watching the special "Behind the Skull" feature if you hit the 9:01 mark there are a bunch of Marvel concept arts from Captain America to Sliver Surfer, but there is one particular concept art of a superhero that was blurred out on the wall.

Weird, who is that?

Character from an upcoming Marvel film, maybe Avengers?

P.S.

The one-shot "Funny thing happened on the way to Thor's Hammer" is (how do you say it...) Boss.
Someone on that forum mentioned it maybe Quasar or even Captain Marvel.

I do see it!

Guardians of the Galaxy anyone?

P.S.

Overstock.com has the 3D Blu-ray at a very good price!

I hope Hawkeye will make Legolas a run for his money, and really opened audience's eyes on what an archer can do. I hope he will be so good people will start questioning whether he's a superhero like the Big Three; I don't want audience to wonder why they'd bring a guy with bow-and-arrows along when they have men with huge guns.

I want the shirt Agent M was wearing on the live stream of NYCC.

I just bought Cap on blu-Ray. I'm kinda disappointed that the Avengers featurette was extremely short and the film didn't included the new full length trailer . Other than that I loved the special features that are included on the blu-ray set also Coulson's an extreme badass in his short .

I feel lucky to have gotten one of those shirts, luckily I received one from my favorite Avenger/2nd favorite superhero. :awesome:

Agreed (the features) & disagreed with what you've posted in Cap DVD thread, concerning that extended Fury/Rogers scene. The dialogue was weak (especially the part about Erskine & how Steve managed to survive + all the crap about how the world needs soldiers). Too campy, simple and not unlike something, that Joss Whedon would write (maybe he was tired, duh). Glad Joe & co. decided to cut it.
