It wasn't "OMG NOT FAITHFUL TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL!!!" that made X3 the crapfest that everyone (including me, quite vocally) says it was. Instead, it was:
a) the fact that the driving force behind the success of the first two X-movies --- Singer and his team of writers --- left the project for SR;
b) the fact that Tom Rothman was such a *****e that potential replacement directors were rejecting X3 *in public* because they refused to work with Fox again;
c) the fact that Fox went ahead and rushed the project and willed it into being, giving it less than half a year for production
, even without a director or script attached at all;
d) the fact that Fox's last minute draftee scraped the bottom of the barrel, Brett Ratner (I'm sure Uwe Boll was their alternate choice
);
e) the fact that the script went through over two dozen rewrites in its short, battered existence;
f) the fact that the finished steaming heap of "product" clocked in at an hour and a half runtime, even though this was supposed to be the "epic" finale.
X3 was a complete waste of celluloid. Utterly.
