So Marvel had decided to accomodate the Avengers' movie by reshaping the 616 version to coincide with the movie version, by bringing back Steve Rogers as Cap and reintroducing Hulk as one of the members, but killed off Thor?

Yeah it's been said time and again tho Ragarok just started them over, wipping the slate litteraly clean.
Without Raganrok it just apears they die and can be brought back as long as someone's thinking about them

I did not know that...wow, that's cool.

boggles my mind too.

I can't stand those death/resurrection storylines either. Everyone knows the hero isn't going to stay dead, so they're not fooling anyone. It's just a cheap gimmick to boost short-term sales (much like putting out new #1 issues every couple of years now).

^^ Bingo.

That's so dumb about all the Thor stuff. Just pointless. Thor better be in the new series. I do actually want to read the movie team together for a few issues. It's a good team with interesting dynamics. This may actually be an Avengers comic that I'll pick up. At least the team is limited as opposed to other storylines that have 700 members of the team.

I sooooo AGREE with this!!!

It's so insulting to the fanbase and cheesy.

I don't really think Marvel is stupid enough to believe that the fanboys will be fooled by Thor's death especially with the movie coming out next year, but they are probably hoping they will buy the issue of Thor's return anyway.

Retconning. It's why I stopped reading mainstream superhero comics. There's no tension to a story when you know the main character is never really in trouble. Even if they do die, it's just a matter of time before they're miraculously brought back (usually around the time they're starring in a film or when sales are sagging).

Most of the people who will buy the issue featuring Thor's return are the same people who are already buying the comic anyway. Comic companies need to figure out a way to sustain long-term sales growth instead of relying on the same tired old gimmicks that only boost sales for one or two issues before going back to normal levels.

Thor's dead...just when he's gaining popularity in the general public through the movies? LOLWUT!?

It's so corny and forced... We already had him brought back for that great JMS run, and who honestly believes he is dead now? It's like when Cap died, but we knew there was going to be a Captain America movie... Did anyone honestly believe then he was gonna stay dead?

I will always be pissed that they killed Cap, primarily so that Brubaker's wet dream of bringing Bucky back from the dead could be realized. That is the worst piece of retconning tripe ever, in my opinion, because it undid one of the very few permanent character deaths in comics while at the same time delivering yet another fake death. It's crap like that that has made me swear off comics altogether.

How many characters has Marvel "killed" recently that everyone knows will be back? Johnny Storm "died" in FF, now Thor is "dead," Deadpool is going to "die" soon. Most of the Avengers have died at some point. Wanda died and came back from the dead, as did Hawkeye, while the Vision was dismantled. The Wasp has been sent to her temporary reward as well, or so I've heard. Goliath might just stay dead, though there are hints of resurrection around him, too. Who have I missed?

I long ago figured out that the fake deaths happen because either someone has a bug up their a** about some crappy plot twist or because the writers and editors lack the creativity to come up with decent stories any longer. Whoever the hell is in charge of that mess should step back, take a good look at all the fake carnage and swear off pseudo-deaths for the rest of the millennium. If the only thing a writer can think of to do with a character is kill him or her off, it's time to move on to something they can write.

Batman was MIA in the comics between Returns and Forever.

Also, Bruce was "dead" after TDK hype...

bucky returned at least 2 years before cap's death.... and most cap fans actually feel bucky's return was handled very well, especially when most were very pessimistic about it.

I was hoping it was a swerve on Bru's part (the Bucky revive) 'cause I was FIRMLY entrenched on keeping Bucky dead. But the Winter Soldier storyline really added depth to the character, was well done, and did the impossible: getting me on the other side of the "Bucky Must Stay Dead" issue.
NOW, I'm mad about the re-killing of Barnes.
I'm glad Brubaker is still on Cap.

You know someone has talent when they can bring back a long-dead character, who people preferred dead, and make him into a character people love. Shame they killed him off again. What the heck. Why even bring him back?!

Yeah, I hate the fact that almost everyone's been an Avenger at some point, it makes Avengers members seem "less special".

I wish the Avengers "ever expanding" roster was more stable or limited as you said in the post above.

We need to start keeping a Death Count of all the Marvel characters that die and then come back to life. I'm sure it will be interesting to see who's been resurrected the most.

Wait... What now? They killed Thor for a second time now?

Makes me think of Spider-Man: Edge of Time. When Spidey says he can now relate to Colossus, Jean Grey and Captain Marvel.
